Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 237: Illegitimate Child
Cindy Sterling handed something that looked like a report to Ruby Sullivan, "I found it in the drawer yesterday when I was looking for old photos."
She knew from Nathaniel that Ruby would be visiting today, so she didn’t call Ethan Sterling.
It’s the DNA comparison report between Seth Sterling and Ethan Sterling.
"It must have been secretly done by my grandmother, Seth is my brother’s illegitimate child." She felt that telling this to either Ethan or Ruby was the same, so she didn’t hesitate, but seeing Ruby’s shocked expression, she raised an eyebrow, "Is my brother having an illegitimate child really such a big deal?"
Previously, the old lady treated Seth as if he were her own grandson, and they were puzzled as to why such a selfish old lady would be so good to a child she found on the street. Who’d have thought, the trick was here all along.
Ruby Sullivan dazedly looked up to meet Cindy’s gaze, only then realizing she had been a bit absent-minded, thought over what Cindy said, found some reason in it and nodded, "True."
Cindy Sterling sat casually on the desk, "By the way, back then when my brother had such great prospects, didn’t you ever feel inferior marrying him?"
Ruby Sullivan carefully put away the DNA report, pondered over the question, and smiled a bit embarrassed, "A little. Actually, I was quite naive back then and wouldn’t think about those things. I knew the Sterling Family wanted to marry into The Sullivan Family because of their financial issues, and I agreed because I really liked your brother. I thought marriage meant belonging to each other, and no matter how good or bad, we’d steadily spend our lives together."
Well, of course, there was another point——she thought The Sullivan Family was rich, and as long as Ethan needed their connections and money for support, their marriage wouldn’t have any problem. In this regard, she wasn’t all that naïve.
Cindy Sterling seriously contemplated her words, raised an eyebrow, "After seeing your wedding photos, I cried a lot for my brother’s sake."
Ruby Sullivan’s mouth twitched, thinking back to her condition at that time, and considering the sibling relationship between Cindy and Ethan Sterling, although it made her face feel flushed, she somewhat understood Cindy’s feelings from back then.
"But, I actually admire you now. You must really trust my brother, otherwise how did you not notice your sister also had her eye on my brother?"
"I’ll take that as a compliment." Ruby felt increasingly uneasy, the conversation was making her unsure of how to react.
"Alright, you go play, talking awkwardly with me is pretty boring." Cindy Sterling finished her sentence with a sip of beer, "I guess I’ll be getting more and more boring."
Ruby watched her indifferent expression and thought of earlier when this girl was passionately lively. She felt some emotion, slowly walked closer and held her hand, "You know Nathaniel organized this masquerade ball for you, if you go out there, you might find some unexpected surprises?"
"Unexpected surprises?" Cindy sneered, pulled her hand away, and ripped off the band-aid on her face, revealing the rough scar like coarse tree bark, making others uncomfortable to look at.
This was the first time Ruby had seen the scar, despite trying to control herself, she still showed a panicked expression.
Cindy asked sarcastically, "Will tearing off the band-aid when I go out count as an unexpected surprise?"
Ruby hesitated before saying, "Today’s a masquerade ball, everyone will think you planned it, they won’t mind."
"And what about after today? Am I supposed to live at the masquerade forever? Or next time, Nathaniel will build a Truman World for me?"
"Cindy..." Ruby genuinely felt that the scars on Cindy’s face weren’t a big deal for ordinary people, perhaps they took her off the runway, but it was no reason to ruin a wonderful life.
"Go out." Cindy said with a long exhale, seeming to suppress her own emotions.
Ruby knew whatever she said was useless, left the study dejectedly, just as she opened the door, she saw someone dressed as Batman coming up the stairs.
"Ethan Sterling?" She looked at the approaching man, somewhat incredulous.
"Didn’t look good?" he said, swinging the cape behind him.
Ruby hadn’t expected him to wear it; she raised her thumbs with a smile, "Handsome!"
Ethan breathed a sigh of relief, "I think it’s pretty good too."
Ruby had thought he wouldn’t join such a crazy ball, so she casually mentioned it, not even inviting him, which was why she drove herself to pick up Sasha Shaw, never expecting him to come on his own.
"Are you here to see Cindy?"
"I’m here for you." Ethan said, grabbing her hand, "The Sterling mansion is crawling with creatures tonight; I must protect you."
Ruby laughed, surprised that Mr. Sterling had a theatrical side.
Downstairs, the special set of colorful neon lights were turned on, the background music switched to 80s disco tunes, Nathaniel awkwardly dancing with a few old classmates at the dance floor, like a head-broken lunatic.
Yet she searched around and couldn’t find Sasha Shaw, while Sean Quinn was sitting on the sofa watching TV, how he managed to enjoy ’Bears Attack’ in such a noisy environment was beyond her.
Ethan noticed Ruby’s expression, leaned to her ear and said, "Sasha is probably with Leon Sterling, I saw them leave through the back door when I came."
"To the garden?" Ruby thought of Sasha’s outfit, suddenly feeling a bit upset, this girl wouldn’t stop until she made herself sick?
Ethan saw her concern and said, "They might have gone to the glasshouse."
Ruby remembered there was a greenhouse in the garden, good for stargazing at night and sunbathing during the day.
Ethan looked at the crowd going wild downstairs, couldn’t resist joining the fun, "Ever danced disco?"
Ruby shook her head.
"Come on, I don’t know either." He smiled slightly, thinking not knowing was just right, they could just go down and mess around.
Ruby didn’t have time to refuse before being pulled down the stairs by him and charged into the crowd.
With the thumping music playing, Ruby felt a bit stiff at first, totally clueless on how to move her body, but seeing Ethan swaying his head carefree, swinging his cape, totally oblivious to the rhythm, she finally relaxed.
Quickly, she blended into the laughing crowd, completely infected by the joy of this silly atmosphere.
Ethan held her as they bounced and jumped around, their timing completely off from others, yet they seemed like the happiest couple in the room.
It was then Nathaniel spotted them, couldn’t help but rush over and tease, "Could you two at least try to hit the beat? My second-hand embarrassment is acting up watching you!"
Ruby and Ethan exchanged glances and answered in unison, "No!"
Nathaniel was choked up by this display of affection, unable to say anything, waved his hand in mock anger and left.
At this moment, someone behind accidentally bumped Ruby, forcing her unintentionally forward, landing right into Ethan’s arms.
Before she could speak, suddenly her lower back hurt, followed by the sensation of warm liquid spraying out.
