Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Rushing Around

Ruby Sullivan and Mama Bennett had already prepared dinner, and the children smelled the delicious aroma as soon as they got home. Honey excitedly ran to the table, looking at her favorite dishes, rubbed her little hands, and happily said, "So many delicious things today."

Seth Sterling, who was following Ethan Sterling, seemed a bit puzzled and looked up, asking his father, "Is today a special day? Why are we eating dinner so early?"

To develop a good habit, The Sullivan Family had dinner at around six o’clock every night, never too early or too late.

"Your mom has something to tell you later." Ethan Sterling explained, then carried the two children’s school bags inside.

After the children were seated, Ruby Sullivan brought out the last dish of seafood soup from the kitchen.

Due to the tight schedule, she and Ethan Sterling needed to finish dinner within thirty minutes, so after sitting down, she immediately mentioned that she needed to return to Meridia for a few days.

This time, Seth seemed more anxious than Honey, "When will you be back?"

"I’ll come back after resolving the company’s issues." Ruby Sullivan thought for a moment, "But the situation over there is still uncertain, so I can’t give an exact time right now."

"I see..." Seth lowered his head a bit despondently.

Honey was focused on eating; after hearing her mom and brother’s words, she thought for a moment and then asked, "So while Mom is away, will Dad take care of us?"

"Yes." Ruby Sullivan handed her a piece of egg, "So Honey needs to listen to your brother and dad."

She thought for a moment and asked, "Because you divorced, does that mean when Dad’s here, Mom has to leave?" She said, unconsciously furrowing her brows, looking worriedly at Dad and then Mom. If that’s the case, wouldn’t that prove everything Nina said was true?

Ruby Sullivan was stunned, not knowing why her naive daughter cared about their divorce, and didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

Ethan Sterling quickly chimed in, "Of course not, it’s just that Mom really has work to handle." After saying that, he told Ruby Sullivan, "I’ll explain to you on the way later."

After hurriedly finishing dinner, they bid the children goodbye and left.

In the car, Ruby Sullivan immediately inquired about the issue with Honey. After hearing Ethan Sterling’s explanation, she remained silent for a while. She had grown up without a mother, so she understood the children’s longing for a complete family, but her mother had passed away and could never return. Perhaps Honey would have to wait a long time to understand why her parents got divorced.

Ethan Sterling glanced at her, seeing she seemed still mired in the issue of the divorce, and deliberately changed the subject, "I called Zane Lawson this afternoon, and his answer was similar to the doctor here, saying that if it’s just confirmed as regular spasms after examination, it’s a normal phenomenon."

"Got it." Ruby Sullivan replied, paused, and added, "Thank you."

Listening to her distant tone, Ethan Sterling swallowed back the remaining words. He initially wanted to suggest transferring Brandon Sullivan back to Meridia, so he could also bring her and the children back, even if they didn’t live together or in the same city, at least better than being separated by the Pacific Ocean.

But he knew it wasn’t a good time and could only give up.

Next afternoon, Leon Sterling came by to invite Ruby Sullivan and the children to his place for hot pot to celebrate his housewarming, only to be startled when Ethan Sterling opened the door.

"Brother?"

Ethan Sterling was quite pleased with the expression on his brother’s face, smiled slightly, and unconsciously showed a hint of pride, "Long time no see."

Hearing his voice, Honey had already come out of the room, "Uncle Don!"

Leon Sterling entered the room and picked Honey up in his arms, "Where’s your mom? Uncle’s place is all set up, and I want you to come over for hot pot dinner tonight." After saying that, he raised his voice and called out, "Mama Bennett, don’t prepare dinner, let’s eat at my place."

Mama Bennett heard the commotion, had already washed her hands, and came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron, waiting for Ethan Sterling to decide.

"Mom’s gone back to Meridia." Honey informed him.

Ethan Sterling explained, "There was an issue with the perfume formula that she needs to resolve. Are your materials ready? Shall we... go now?"

"Oh, let’s head over now." Leon Sterling saw his brother’s mood was somewhat complicated but not to the extent of having prickly encounters, especially with two children there.

The dinner that night was quite joyful, and neither of the brothers said anything awkward, spending the whole time mostly talking about the children’s school life, as it seemed their common topic was the kids.

After putting the children to bed, Ethan Sterling checked the time, then began patiently waiting for Ruby Sullivan’s call, only to receive a call half an hour later from Howard, saying they had picked her up.

Ruby Sullivan had booked a hotel near the company, and as soon as she got in the car, she informed Howard, thinking that since he had already called Ethan Sterling, and considering it was bedtime for the kids, she skipped the step of checking in safely.

"Mr. Sullivan, do you know when Mr. Sterling will come back?" Howard asked tentatively.

He knew asking Ethan Sterling was useless, as the urgency of the company’s issues was reported daily. Now with Mr. Sullivan back, needing to stay in Meridia for the children made Howard feel the boss’s return day was even harder to grasp.

Ruby Sullivan was puzzled, "Should I... know?"

Howard, taken aback by her question, gave a sheepish grin and said, "I thought you might know."

Ruby Sullivan smiled, "It’s not like we’re pretend divorced; he won’t tell me about work." But she was somewhat surprised by Howard’s question; shouldn’t he be more informed than her? Why would he need to ask her?

Howard listened to her words and pondered, deciding not to say more. What official business could Ethan Sterling have overseas?

After a moment of silence, Ruby Sullivan suddenly asked, "Do you have any news about Rhonda Sullivan?"

"Uh..." Howard considered his phrasing, "I haven’t seen her come to the company looking for Mr. Sterling."

Ruby Sullivan initially wanted to ask about what Ethan Sterling did regarding Rhonda after she left, but knowing Howard’s loyalty to Ethan Sterling, she felt asking would be pointless. Besides, she had forced herself to let go of these things, so why insist on getting to the bottom of it?

At the hotel, she said goodbye to Howard, instructing him to arrive at the company early the next morning. She had returned her work badge and couldn’t get through the access control alone.

While waiting at the counter for check-in, Ruby Sullivan suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Wenny?"

She turned and saw Dr. L, startled for a moment, then smiled, "Master, what a coincidence."

Dr. L glanced at her luggage, slightly furrowing his brow. He had been occupied with business lately, only knowing she got divorced without any time to learn more.

"Madam, your room card is ready." The front desk staff handed Ruby Sullivan her room card.

"Thank you." Ruby Sullivan turned to take it, and moments later, Dr. L had come to her side.

He looked at his watch, "Although it’s late, the late-night snacks here are quite good."

Ruby Sullivan smiled apologetically, "Master, I just got off a business trip flight and have to head to the company early tomorrow. Please understand." With that, she dragged her luggage away.

Dr. L watched her back, squinting slightly, realizing that this disciple no longer valued her old master’s relationship.
