Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Just a Little Surprise

In the evening, Ruby Sullivan hosted a farewell dinner for Sasha Shaw and Faye Truman. In truth, there wasn’t anything particularly important to discuss; it was just that getting together like this might not be so easy in the future.

After leaving the restaurant, both Sasha Shaw and Faye Truman, who drove there, offered to take Ruby Sullivan home. However, she thought The Sterling Family’s villa was a bit far from here, and it would be wiser to call a car herself.

"When did you become so indecisive?" Faye Truman intended to "forcefully" shove her into his car.

Knowing she couldn’t win against him, Ruby Sullivan was about to compromise when she heard Ethan Sterling calling her. She thought she was hearing things, but when she turned her head to look, she indeed saw Ethan Sterling quickly walking towards her from not far away.

Sasha Shaw and Faye Truman’s expressions both darkened.

Sasha Shaw scoffed coldly, "Who is he putting on an act for now?"

Ruby Sullivan smiled and tugged at her hand, "Since he’s here, you two should head back. Drive safely."

Sasha Shaw held her hand, somewhat reluctant to let go, "Tomorrow, are you sure you don’t want us to come see you off?"

"No need. The kids will be there, and I’m afraid I’ll end up crying."

Faye Truman patted her shoulder, "If anything happens over there, let us know right away. Even if we can’t get there immediately, we’ll come help as soon as possible."

"I know, I won’t be polite," Ruby Sullivan said as she looked at the two of them, adding in her heart: in the future, it’ll just be you two.

On the way home, Ruby Sullivan felt a bit down, wanting to avoid overthinking. She casually started a conversation, "What are you doing here?"

"I came over straight after work and waited for you." He only knew she’d arranged to have dinner with friends there in the evening, unaware of the specific time, worried he might miss her, so he arrived early to wait.

Ruby Sullivan pondered for a moment, "Did you work overtime today?"

Ethan Sterling felt like he’d taken a knife to the chest, offering an awkward yet polite smile, "Mrs. Sterling, I didn’t work overtime and didn’t come here by coincidence. I knew you didn’t drive this morning when you went out, so I came to pick you up. I didn’t call you because I wanted to surprise you, though it seems you didn’t get the surprise."

After he finished saying all this, he tilted his head to look at her, curling his lips into a pained smile.

Ruby Sullivan hadn’t expected such a lengthy explanation awaiting her. She was stunned for quite a while before weakly saying, "Thanks."

"You’re welcome!" Ethan Sterling replied through gritted teeth.

He knew it was too late to do all this, but it was better than doing nothing at all.

In the evening, after Ethan Sterling showered, he entered the room to find her still on her phone. He deliberately took her phone away and set it aside, "I won’t be seeing you off tomorrow. There are urgent matters at the company to handle."

"It’s alright," Ruby Sullivan thought for a moment, "You should coax the kids well tomorrow morning. They really are reluctant to part with you."

That evening, their daughter asked when she could see daddy again, and Ruby Sullivan suddenly felt that her decision might be somewhat selfish, but... She knew the knot in her heart would never untangle.

Ethan Sterling tilted his head to look at the back of her head and sighed, "I know." He really wanted to know if she felt any reluctance, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask.

Early the next morning, as they were leaving the house, Honey clutched Ethan Sterling’s neck and cried. But despite the tears, she obediently got into the car after wiping her eyes.

"I forgot to tell you, Sasha will come over to collect my things when she has time. As for Honey’s... I’ve taken the important items, and you can deal with the rest as you see fit."

Ethan Sterling frowned, "No need to have her pick them up."

She was stunned, "Are you... sending someone to deliver them? That would be better, saving her a trip."

Ethan Sterling frowned, really wanting to know if this woman was doing it deliberately, "The Sterling Family isn’t at the point where it can’t hold onto those few things of yours."

Ruby Sullivan smiled, unsure what he was upset about this time and too lazy to guess, "Alright then."

She figured that when he remarried, she would surely get the news and could deal with it then.

Before getting in the car, she couldn’t help but look back at the home she was leaving for the second time. She didn’t feel any reluctance, only relief.

It’s pretty good.

Watching the car drive away in a cloud of dust, Emma still couldn’t quite believe what was happening. She walked over to Ethan Sterling and asked, "Big brother, you really let Wenny leave just like that?"

Ethan Sterling said nothing, turning to get into another car, instructing Howard, "Let’s go."

As the car traveled, looking at the scenery along the road seemed to lead to Miles Mona’s house. Upon entering the residential area, however, it diverted in another direction. After passing rows of flowered trees, the car stopped in front of a villa with a European-style red roof. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The first time he brought Ruby Sullivan here, she said the houses looked nice, and coincidentally someone was selling one. He bought it intending to give it to her as a birthday present, but didn’t expect he wouldn’t be able to give it.

After getting out of the car, Howard hesitated, "Mr. Sterling, are you sure about choosing this one?"

"Yes," Ethan Sterling looked up at the exquisite building, "I want to make my memory of it more vivid."

In the living room, Rhonda Sullivan leaned against the sofa, her hands spread out, and her long hair fell down, nearly covering her entire face. She was motionless, like a spirit devoid of life.

Two days earlier, Howard had come to pick her up, saying Ethan Sterling wanted to see her about something. Afterwards, she was imprisoned in the villa and her phone was taken away, with bodyguards ensuring she stayed put. The night before, she bled while going to the bathroom, cried and made a fuss, but was ignored, and no one cared about her threats.

She thought of Tyler Aldrin’s messages, knowing it was pointless to make a racket, so she began drinking the bottled water they provided and eating cheap bread, telling them to pass messages to Tyler Aldrin—to name his price, and they’d meet to discuss it, though the master never showed.

Rhonda Sullivan knew Ethan Sterling would definitely find her, so she waited without urgency.

Given Ethan Sterling’s influence in Ariston, it was inevitable Tyler Aldrin would be found out, having imprisoned her in such a large villa.

Therefore, she tried calming herself down, praying daily for the child to come to no harm.

Suddenly, hearing the sound of the door opening, Ruby Sullivan instinctively raised her head slightly. When she saw the man standing in the doorway, she couldn’t quite believe her eyes. It took her a long time before dejectedly standing up, "Ethan, you finally came."

As she was about to approach Ethan Sterling, the bodyguards stepped forward to stop him.

Rhonda Sullivan was stupefied, "Ethan, what’s going on? Are they... your men?" She couldn’t believe that the man who had been speaking to her softly only days ago had changed so quickly, seeming indifferent with no trace of affection, leaving only coldness.

Ethan Sterling sat down on the chair moved over by the bodyguards, looking at Rhonda Sullivan, asking in a cold voice, "Five years ago, what did you do to Ruby Sullivan? Do you remember?" This question, he’d asked her many times, but this time, he didn’t care about her answer.
