Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Can You Take Me With You?

Ethan Sterling walked onto the balcony of the study and picked up his phone. "Speak."

"Ethan, I miss you." On the other end was Rhonda Sullivan’s tearful voice.

Ethan Sterling sighed and tried to speak gently, "What’s wrong?"

"I had a nightmare, and I miss you. Could you... come and stay with me? Iris snores when she sleeps, so I kicked her out, but I’m scared to be alone in the hospital room. People must have died here..." Rhonda Sullivan frightened herself and couldn’t continue.

Ethan Sterling rubbed his aching brow and asked calmly, "Do you know what time it is now?"

Rhonda Sullivan said nothing, her sobs turning into sniffles.

He sighed, "I’ll be right there." With that, he hung up the phone, left the study, and bumped into Seth coming out.

Surprised, he asked, "What’s wrong?"

Seth looked at him with a troubled expression. "Dad, I heard your call." He’d been a light sleeper since he was a child, unlike Honey, who slept soundly. The study was next to his room, and even though Ethan Sterling kept his voice down, he still heard it.

"Well, I... something came up, and I need to head out." Ethan Sterling didn’t want to lie to him, so he just sugar-coated the truth.

"Mrs. Sullivan said she would have you kick Honey and me out later, is that true?" He looked at his dad, asking seriously. He wasn’t worried about the outcome, similar to how he liked solving math problems, he just wanted to know the answer, whatever it may be, he would face it.

Sh*t... Ethan Sterling cursed silently and assured his son, "She’s just talking nonsense; don’t believe her, and don’t let Honey believe her either."

"Is the child in her belly yours?"

"Yes," Ethan Sterling could only answer this way, "For now, it seems so."

"After she gives birth to that child, will she move into the Sterling Family, or will you move out to live with her?"

"Neither, whether she has the child or not, nothing will change. Your mom, you, Honey, and I will always be together." Ethan Sterling said as he patted his son’s head. "Alright, go to sleep now."

Seth nodded and turned back to his room, but he didn’t believe a word his father said.

If nothing were going to change, Dad wouldn’t have a child with Mrs. Sullivan. But when adults want to lie, asking is pointless, so he obediently went back to bed, not wanting to waste time.

After hearing his dad leave, he got up from the bed and went to his parents’ bedroom.

Ruby Sullivan was surprised to see Seth at the door. "Seth, did you have a nightmare?" She quickly turned on the light and sat up.

Seth shook his head, "I know Dad went out. Is he coming back today?"

Ruby Sullivan smiled a little awkwardly, "I don’t know." She knew Seth understood a lot, and perhaps in his eyes, she was already a pitiful abandoned wife, making her even more embarrassed.

"Well..." Seth hesitated for a long time, carefully asking, "Can I sleep with you?"

"Of course, come on." Ruby Sullivan knew Seth wouldn’t ask for affection without reason and agreed immediately.

Seth sighed deeply. Although his expression remained serious, he looked much more relaxed. He lay down where Ethan Sterling usually slept, turned to Ruby Sullivan, and said, "Mom, can I make an unreasonable request?"

Ruby Sullivan laughed, curious to know what unreasonable request her always sensible son might have, thinking it might be something like not wanting her and Dad to separate.

"Go ahead and say it." She lay down too, without turning off the light just yet.

Seth blinked, "If you and Honey leave, can you take me with you too?"

This time Ruby Sullivan was genuinely surprised, "Why? I mean, why do you want me to take you away?" If Honey asked such a question, she might need to soothe her first, saying things like they won’t leave the Sterling Family.

But with Seth, there was no need for such nonsense.

Seth gently hugged her, "Mom, I don’t like Mrs. Sullivan. I don’t want to live with her, nor with her child."

Ruby Sullivan thought of what Rhonda Sullivan had done to her and Dad, and however she thought about it, she couldn’t associate her with a kind stepmother. More likely, she’d become the Evil Queen driving out Snow White, right?

"Alright, if that day comes, I’ll do my best to make it happen, but I don’t know if your dad will agree." Since there’s no blood relation between father and son, Ethan Sterling probably wouldn’t forcefully keep Seth, right?

Seth exhaled deeply, "Thank you, Mom."

Ruby Sullivan kissed him on the head, "You’re Mom’s son, that’s not an unreasonable request at all, no need to thank me."

At the hospital, Rhonda Sullivan, trying to avoid being left alone like last time, tightly clutched Ethan Sterling’s arm, and before long, his whole arm, including his shoulder, went numb, extremely uncomfortable.

He felt he must have sinned in his past life, or else in this life, his "little girlfriend" wouldn’t test him so much.

Everything was for Honey, he kept telling himself repeatedly.

When they were having breakfast, Ethan Sterling hadn’t returned yet. When Vivian asked about it, Ruby Sullivan said he went out early due to some errands. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Of course, it’s not that she wanted to cover for Ethan Sterling, she just didn’t want herself to look so awkward to others.

Once breakfast was over, she started preparing lunch. Both Honey and Seth had become her little helpers. Though they worked slowly, they were meticulous, even helping with tasks like picking vegetables.

Last night, after discussing the matter of Uncle with Vivian, Ruby Sullivan hesitated for a while before calling him. He happily agreed and arrived at the Sterling Family around ten.

He wore a well-tailored suit paired with deep brown vintage leather shoes and even had a polite demeanor, looking very sophisticated.

After the children and Ruby Sullivan greeted him, Vivian led him to the garden for a chat.

According to Seth, this uncle really liked painting and had a lot in common with Vivian.

Don got up a bit late and, after freshening up, joined in the kitchen to help. Sensibly, he didn’t ask about Ethan Sterling’s whereabouts, as if the house remained harmonious even without him.

Around eleven, Naomi Sinclair appeared with gifts for the children. Upon seeing the adorable Seth and Honey, she was instantly smitten, insisting they play with her.

Honey wasn’t great at picking vegetables, so she immediately chose to play with the pretty sister, but Seth preferred staying with Ruby Sullivan in the kitchen. However, Honey felt she should be like her brother. While he worked, she played, which seemed unloyal, causing the little girl some dilemma.

Seth had no choice but to go play, just to cater to his sister’s feelings.

"It’s not too hot outside yet, Sister Belle, let me show you the garden. Vivian and her friend are also there; I can introduce you." Seth figured adults should be with adults, so he could return to help his mom.

Naomi Sinclair liked the idea. But when she saw Uncle in the back garden, she burst into laughter, "Old man, what are you doing here?"
