Chef at the University Canteen-Chapter 466 - 271: Are You That Jiang Yu from the Seventh Dining Hall?
Not long after, the graduation thesis defense for the philosophy department, class of 2015 of the Jiangzhou University School of Humanities officially began.
Sitting in the classroom next to the defense venue, the students also started to feel nervous, as if they were attending a job interview for the first time.
The difference is, if you fail the interview, you don’t get the job, but if you fail the defense, you won’t get your diploma.
By comparison, the latter is far more serious.
"Sitting here is really boring."
Hu Zhihai turned his head to look at Jiang Yu and whispered,
"If I knew I’d have to wait until the afternoon for my defense, I should’ve brought a book to read, or at the very least, a vocabulary list to memorize."
"Tsk tsk, fatty, you really make people see you in a new light."
Jiang Yu heard what he said, couldn’t help but turn his head to look at him seriously, and said with a surprised expression,
"I thought you were just sleeping under the air conditioning in the library study room all day. I didn’t expect you were actually reviewing."
"Nonsense, I’ve already told you, I must pass the exam next year, did you think I was joking?"
Hu Zhihai glanced at Jiang Yu with a proud expression and said,
"Let me tell you, when I get serious, even I’m scared of myself!"
Speaking, he suddenly leaned closer to Jiang Yu and asked quietly,
"Oh right, I didn’t expect it, you’re going to treat the whole class to dinner. With so many people, can you manage?"
"No problem, there are just about thirty people, three private rooms will do."
Jiang Yu waved his hand dismissively and said,
"After all, we’ve been classmates. After this meal, we’ll go our separate ways. I hope everyone makes a name for themselves."
The two chatted quietly for a while. It’s unclear how much time had passed when suddenly a teacher assisting with the defense called from outside:
"Number 6! Number 6 get ready!"
Upon hearing "Number 6" being called outside, Jiang Yu and Hu Zhihai immediately stopped talking.
"I’ll head out first."
Jiang Yu whispered, glanced toward the door, took a deep breath, then got up from his seat and quickly walked out.
In the hallway, several academy teachers were chatting quietly on the side. Seeing Jiang Yu come out, their eyes brightened.
A middle-aged teacher who had taught the "History of Western Philosophy" to Jiang Yu’s class slowly approached, smiling as he said:
"Jiang Yu, today you’re graduating. Got any thoughts?"
Jiang Yu was the "jewel" of the school and the pride of the School of Humanities, so naturally, the teachers treated him differently than the other students.
"Hello, Teacher Liu!"
Jiang Yu first greeted the teacher, then smiled and said,
"Graduating, but I’m not leaving the school, so there’s not much to feel. It’s just a shame I won’t be able to attend Teacher Liu’s classes anymore."
"Hahaha! You rascal, why didn’t I notice you were so eloquent before?"
Teacher Liu chuckled a few times, then suddenly remembered the defense in the nearby room, quickly lowered his voice, chuckled and said,
"Wanting to attend my classes is easy. Aren’t you taking graduate courses next semester?
Coincidentally, I’m teaching one of those courses.
Let me give you a heads up, if you plan to skip classes, you’d better bribe me well, otherwise, expect to fail."
Jiang Yu said, "No problem, I’m actually treating all my classmates to dinner tonight. Why don’t you join us, Teacher Liu?"
"Let’s forget it, it’s your class gathering. I don’t want to spoil your fun by mixing in."
Teacher Liu was somewhat tempted but reconsidered and waved his hand, smiling as he said,
"But, in a few days my father-in-law and mother-in-law will be here, I’ll need you to reserve a private room for me then.
Our school is really out of the way, and the food around your place is the only decent option. I need to treat them to a good meal."
"Sure, Teacher Liu, just call me ahead when you need the room."
Jiang Yu nodded and smiled, saying, "I guarantee your elders will have a satisfying meal."
Teacher Liu nodded in satisfaction, smiling and said, "Alright, thanks in advance, then."
The two didn’t chat much longer before the door to the graduation thesis defense room opened. A female student with a flushed face emerged, head lowered. It was unclear whether she was excited or nervous.
She just exited the door when she saw Jiang Yu standing outside.
The female student froze for a moment, then quickly forced a smile, nodded at Jiang Yu but didn’t speak, and went to stand aside with her head down.
"Go on in."
Teacher Liu gently patted Jiang Yu’s shoulder encouragingly,
"Good luck!"
"Mm, thank you, Teacher Liu!"
Jiang Yu looked at the slightly open door, took a deep breath, then reached out to gently push the door open and walked in.
Inside the conference room, at one side of a long meeting table, sat five defense teachers, while at the front right, there were cups and books placed on the desk at the only seat available.
Behind the defense teachers on the wall hung a red banner with the words "School of Humanities Philosophy Department Class of 2015 Graduation Thesis Defense" written on it.
On the wall facing the room, a projector screen was lowered, and a young female teacher was operating something on a laptop at the side.
Soon, the screen flickered, showing the title of Jiang Yu’s thesis.
The young female teacher then stepped down and returned to her seat on the right side of the meeting table.
