Chapter 71: I found where she was buried

Who told her to make such a silly promise?

After getting back from the bridal boutique, Max immediately swept Valerie off her feet, throwing her over his shoulder like a bag of potatoes and despite her protest, he carried her up till he got to her room and laid her on the bed, torturing her with endless and unbearable pleasure but never going all the way.

’I know he said he wanted to leave that part for when we’re officially married in the eyes of everyone but isn’t that just an excuse?’ she thought and spat out the paste from her mouth.

She was currently brushing her teeth and stared at the love bites he had left all over her neck. Her face flushed each time she remembered what warranted each.

’Maybe he can’t get it up?’ she thought and put her brows back in her mouth before pushing her head back, wondering. She had never really seen it.

He touched her all over but he never let her touch him down there.

’Or, is he just shy?’ she wondered but immediately shook her head, shivering at the recollection of what he did in the hospital’s waiting room. ’No way, that demon can never be shy.

Once she was done brushing her teeth, she went out. She was supposed to get her bandages changed today and the doctor would arrive any moment.

As she walked out of her room, she paused with her hand on her hair and smirked at the thought of what she had done the previous day. Then, slowly, she tittered.

It was going to be fun. Coupled with the numerous pieces of evidence she had on her laptop, she would make Lucy’s life miserable on the day she thought would be the happiest day of her life.

But then her smile fell and she darted her eyes to the side, sadly. She watched the video. She watched how Frankie met her end. It was frightening and heart-aching.

She couldn’t bear it but forced herself to watch the whole process. After which, she went to throw up in the toilet.

It was truly gruesome. Lucy was the lunatic among them yet she was roaming free. No matter, the whole world would see it on that day.

"Are you ready?" Max asked as he walked in to see her trying to zip up her dress.

His eyes fell on her back and he whistled.

’What was that? Is he a hooligan?’ Valerie thought. "Help me with this." She simply said and he got closer.

"How did you manage on your own?" Max asked and Valerie looked aside.

"I wasn’t alone." She said and went quiet.

He didn’t press further and helped her zip up her dress. She was wearing a black dress, as she had been wearing in other days. She was still in mourning so he didn’t say anything about it.

And besides, black looked really great on her.

"I got what you asked." He said and she turned to look at him.

"You did? Where? Where is she?" She asked with a look of desperation on her face.

He scanned her expression carefully and squinted his eyes.

Seeing this, she stepped back and turned her face away, trying to adjust her expression. She had to stay calm.

"I found where she was buried." He said. "But we can’t go there now."

"How come?"

"They already know you left the hospital." He said, referring to her uncle. Well, it was expected. "And since they know how close you were with your assistant, they got people to secretly watch the area she was burried, knowing you’d try to see her at least once."

"And if I do go there, they will definitely make my grave as well." Valerie completed and clenched her fists. "Thank you, I got the memo." She said. "So I won’t try to see Frankie, not now at least, but can you do one more thing for me."

"It’s one request after another, Valerie." Max said and got closer to her, sliding his hand into hers. "What will you use as payment this time around?"

"You’re always asking for payment." Valerie said. "You’re weird."

"Hm? I thought as much." He said, leaning his head closer to her. "After all, a normal person wouldn’t do what I do, would they?"

Valerie was silent, staring at his eyes that were hungrily looking down at her.

He was obsessed. That was the word that came to mind, looking at him like this. Max was a person she would never fully understand and she wished to understand him so badly that she was going along with everything, as per the contract’s content and as per her own heart’s desire.

"I’ll tell you what you want to hear." She suddenly said and Max flinched, his smile freezing in place as he heard that offer. "We have a lot of unfinished business, and just as you want to hear the truth from me, I also want to tell you. I don’t want to hide it anymore."

"Hold on." He suddenly said, gripping her hand a little slightly. "What truth are you talking about?"

She stared at him for a while and sighed. This would take a while.

"Max," she called and used her free hands to stroke his hair. "Deep down, you know what I’m talking about, don’t you?"

"Valerie." He called over gritted teeth.

"I already said I’d tell you the truth. Don’t put reason or your own interpretation anymore and hear the words from me." She said, hoping he’d agree.

There was no benefit in keeping each other in the dark, hurting at the past, and continuing with heartaches caused by misunderstandings.

"Valerie." Max called once more and caught her hand, taking it off his head.

He had a dark contrast and looked like he was angry but she couldn’t tell clearly.

"Are you scared of me?" He suddenly asked which shocked her.

"What?"

"Are you scared of what I will do to you in time to come?" He asked. "Valerie, I know what you’re trying to do." He said. "You want to try and clear the past so I won’t go ahead with my plans for you, isn’t it?"

"What?" She was even more confused. Why was he pushing the story away? She thought he badly wanted to hear about it from her.

If not, why did he show her the sweet wrapper and ask?

"Valerie, the past..." He gulped. "Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, I don’t think I’ll be able to believe your words, and that’s because I told myself for so long that you’re selfish, inhuman, and indifferent to my feelings. I hated you while suffering from the burning pain I felt in my heart, and that pain was because of my love for you."
