Chapter 66: To the hospital...

Valerie looked like she was still asleep but she was conscious of his presence and that was why she spoke her mind.

The stench on him was repulsive so she turned her head to the other side.

Max sniffed his hand. He came to her room as soon as he got back, so he probably had Lucy’s harsh perfume on him.

Ugh, this was why he avoided touching her as much as possible but she was so clingy.

He looked at her and saw Valerie had fallen asleep again. it seems she had no plans of opening her eyes even when she knew he was there. Or it could be that because he was there that she felt she could go back to sleep without worrying.

He smirked. What a wonder she was.

He got up from the bed and went to his room. He took a shower, making sure he got rid of all traces of another lady on him.

Once he was done, he came back to her room and sat down to keep watching her sleep.

She looked so calm and defenseless that he wanted to gobble her up. He leaned in and kissed her cheek. She squinted her eyes but did not open them.

"Haha, I was in such a shitty mood that I thought I would explode in rage but I don’t feel it anymore." He said and caressed her face. "I just feel like teasing you now." He took a lock of her hair and kissed it. "Maybe it’s because of how you show your jealousy."

He watched her some more before lying next to her, with the plan of watching her face closely but as soon as his head hit the pillow, Valerie hugged him, burying her face in his chest.

"Hm, you smell nice." She muttered and smiled. "Much better."

"Hah." Max palmed his face. How was he going to bear with this? She was driving him crazy and she didn’t even know it.

Anyway, he decided to let her be. He had plans for the next day, so he decided to let her have a good night’s sleep.

He kissed the top of her head and gave out a sigh.

The next morning, Valerie woke up alone on her bed and she wondered if it had been a dream. He massaged her neck and yawned.

"Frankie, what time is it?" She subconsciously asked but paused, remembering Frankie was gone. Her face fell and grew dark. She screamed and threw a pillow in anger.

She was mad. She caused her death yet she still had the guts to call out her name. What was wrong with her?

She folded her knees and hugged them, dropping her head on her knee. She was sad. She missed Frankie.

Her door opened and she raised her gaze to find Max standing at her door, and watching her in silence while trying to analyze what was going on with her.

"Did you have a nightmare?" He asked but Valerie sighed and let go of the anger in her expression.

"It’s nothing." She said and started getting down from her bed.

"You know, that was a pretty loud scream." Max probed, walking into the room. "Are you sure you’re okay?"

"Are we going somewhere?" She suddenly asked, evading his question. "You’re all dressed up."

Max stared in silence. It looked like she wouldn’t answer and since he didn’t want to make it a big deal, he decided to just give in.

"We’re going to the hospital." He said and she paused and looked at him confused.

"How come? Are you sick?"

"My mom wants to do a full body check-up at the hospital." He answered. "And after that, we’re going out to pick your wedding dress."

Valerie stood still, her brain slowly processing his words and at the end of it, she tilted her head and exclaimed,

"What?!"

Tiana smiled gleefully at Valerie who was still lost as to what they were going to do. She got the hospital part but what was it about going to pick out a wedding dress? She was confused.

"Don’t worry, darling. Maxie explained everything to me." Tiana said and chuckled.

Seeing Valerie look lost was actually funny. Now she understood why Max tends to tease her a lot.

"Aside from that, are you feeling okay?" Valerie asked, worrying about her health. "Max said you’re going to get a check-up."

"Oh well, it’s just a full body check-up, no big deal. I just feel my body has consumed too much in these past seven years and want to make sure my system is in top shape." She said and patted Valerie’s hand. "So don’t worry about me."

Valerie nodded. That was understandable, considering she was being treated by such a hospital for so long. The asylum was good at the beginning but with the way it grew corrupted, there was no saying if she was able to get treated with the right materials.

Tiana touched the bandage on Valerie’s arm.

"Oh, it’s almost healed." Valerie immediately said, trying to dismiss any question Tiana would ask, and she chuckled.

"I know." She said and smiled.

They got to the hospital and Max came down from his car which had been in front. He approached their car and leaned on the window frame.

"Don’t forget to wear your shades and nosemask." He said, and Valerie nodded before taking out her disguise. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Are you goin in with us?" Tiana suddenly asked him. "I can tell you attract a lot of attention. Do you want to drag the reporters to your wife?"

Max went silent, his eyebrows furrowing. Hmm, it would definitely create a problem if the reporters recognized Valerie by mistake.

Valerie also felt it would be a big issue so she made a suggestion.

"Why don’t you two go while I stay in the car?" She said but Tiana disagreed.

"Not a chance, darling." She raised her gaze to look at her son. "It’s not that I don’t want you to come with me but you stand out too much. Anyone walking with you will become a trending topic, am I right?"

Valerie nodded for him.

"If you can fix that, I’ll let you come. Find a disguise or something, as long as you don’t stand out."

Valerie lowered her head in thought. How was Max supposed to do that? Even with a mask, he stood out a lot.

"I understand." Max said and stood straight, putting his hands in his pockets. "There’s no need to think too much about this. I’ll meet you inside."

"How will you do it?" Valerie asked and he smirked.

"I have my ways."
