Valerie looked away from Max and tried to stand. Max wasted no time to help her to her feet but once she was stable on her feet, she shoved him away.
"Take a bath before touching me." She said and walked past him, toward the sink to watch her mouth and her face.
She expected Max to mock her for feeling jealous or acting out after meeting Lucy but instead, he asked,
"Why are you throwing up?" She raised her head and stared at him through the mirror.
He had this conflicted look on his face. Confused and helpless.
"It’s nothing." She said. "It just happens when I suppress myself for too long or when I see something utterly disgusting." Her eyes glazed over him and towards the sink, washing her face one more time.
"I understand that you’re disgusted." Max said, covering his mouth in thought. "But what do you mean by suppressing yourself? Valerie, why do you throw up?"
"I just gave you the reason. If you can’t figure it out yourself then forget about it." She said threw the rag at him and walked out of the bathroom. ’The amount of hatred building up in me is just too much for my body to bear. My stomach shuns each time it gets to its max, especially when it has to do with that family.’
Once she was out of the bathroom, she glanced over her shoulder to see what expression Max had on his face and it was rather timid. She honestly expected him to react but he wasn’t reacting.
Was her provocation not provoking enough?
But what was she doing anyway? He already told her why he was doing what he was doing and it was for her sake too. But... She glanced at her hands and clenched her fists. She couldn’t just overlook the fact that he was letting her enemy throw herself on him.
Just imagining both of them together, in contact with one another, was more than enough to make her want to throw up even more.
Before Max went down to see Lucy, he explained to her that he went ahead to solidify the marriage plans with Ross. The wedding ceremony would take place in a week and all preparations had been underway from the moment she was taken away.
He took action as soon as possible so that he could erase any form of doubt or suspicions in their minds.
They would think, ’He just wanted to make sure the Villainess was gone before going through with the marriage because he didn’t want to end up with her’ and ’He is probably smitten by our dear Lucy already. This is a good thing’
When they were deluded by thoughts like that, even if the news of Valerie escaping the asylum spread far and wide, Stewart would be the last on the suspect list.
’This is all for my revenge.’ She told herself but she couldn’t stop clenching her fists, tighter and tighter. And because her palms were wet, the possibility of her fingers stabbing into her palms was high.
But just then, Max gently held her hands and she looked up to see him standing in front of her. He pressed her hands to his lips and said,
"I said no one is allowed to harm you." He raised his gaze, sharply at her. "And that includes you. Even if I have yet to claim your entire body, I would like to retain the rights that I have right now. Do not think of hurting yourself. I, alone, have that right. If you do, I’ll punish you."
Valerie stared silently at his threats. Not just seawater threats, huh? She tilted her head and smirked.
"Alright." She responded, as though she had been waiting for that line.
"Valerie, bear with it." Max said, "It disgusts me as well but I’m putting up with it because it will only clear your path and clear the path for my plans to be enforced." He kissed her hands again.
"I understand, Max. But this is the only way I can vent my frustration. Allow me to get mad at least." She said and he looked into her eyes.
Her eyes were... Beautiful.
"Alright." He said, reaching his hand to caress her face. "I’ll allow you to get mad for now. But know that you can’t cross the line.".
"I know." She said and walked towards the bed, sat down, and crossed her legs. "So, where’s my phone?"
"I couldn’t get it." Max answered immediately. "I didn’t put my mind to it either. I was too busy with other things."
"Hm, who’s it with?"
"Steven." He answered and she remembered the silver-haired guy. He looked like he could cause trouble. A cunning one too.
But there was no way he knew that there were secrets in her phone, so what did he need it for? Well, he wouldn’t be able to just hack into it all willy-nilly since she had a tight encrypted password that could only be unlocked through her laptop.
The only way he could open her phone was if he got a very skilled expert to open it up, though. But would he go through that trouble for a phone? Unless that was his target all along.
"Why doesn’t he want to give it back?" She asked and Max clicked his tongue.
"He wants to see you but I refused." He said. "I won’t let you talk to him in a space alone. I won’t let you talk to him at all." He suddenly declared and she folded her arms.
"Relax, I don’t want to talk to him either." She said. "Well, it can’t be helped. I’ll have to give up the phone. Now, I just need my laptop."
"Where is it?" Max asked, finally going to sit and he sat next to her on the bed.
"There’s an underground compartment in my wardrobe. It has a password system that can only be seen if you slide the ground open." She said but her words were too vague to understand.
"I’ll have someone look for it." Max said, but Valerie grabbed his hand and said, 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"No, I can’t trust anyone." She said and looked up at him with pleading eyes. "You’re the only one I can trust with this. Please, find a way to get it yourself. I would’ve done it but..." Her hands started trembling. "I think I’ll pass out if I step foot into that room."
Max watched her. He understood what she meant and nodded. Well, there was a rather easy way to get it.
"I understand. I’ll get it for you." He said and wanted to stand, ready to leave but she clutched onto his shirt.
He looked at her and saw she had her head down, her hands slightly trembling, and in a silent voice, she asked,
"And Frankie? What... What happened to her body?"
