Chapter 61: A planned wedding on the way

Maximus went downstairs towards the living room and there he found Lucy Ross sitting gently like a rose with no thorns.

But Max didn’t like a flower that hid its thorns. Rather, he liked the ones that had their thorns on full display. He smirked.

"Miss Ross," he called and Lucy raised her gaze to him excitedly. "I’m glad you could make it."

"Yes, it’s nice to meet you." She said.

"Now, now. No need to be so formal." He said and softly held her chin, gazing into her eyes. "We’ll be married soon, so let’s drop formalities, okay?" He said, smiling politely and she nodded, blushing lightly.

’Oh God, he’s so handsome. With such a handsome and powerful man by my side, I don’t think I’ll ever need anything in life again.’ Lucy thought, staring at Max’s face.

She was so happy that she was able to get rid of Valerie. If she hadn’t gone extreme, she would’ve never gotten her hands on this big prize.

Not only was she the only heiress of Ross, but now she was getting married to the representative of Stewart. The most handsome man she has ever seen.

"Hold on a minute." Max said, suddenly edging closer to her. He got so close that her heart started beating so hard and loud, and she got scared that he would hear it.

’Is he going to kiss me? I know I’m beautiful and irresistible but I’m not ready yet.’ though these were her thoughts, she had her lips puckered up, ready to meet his lips but they never came.

"All done." Max said and she opened her eyes to see he had backed away and was smiling at her.

"Eh?"

"There was something on your hair, Miss Ross. But it’s gone now." He said, and her face flushed in embarrassment.

"Um, you... You can call me Lucy." Lucy said and swiped her hair behind her ear. "We’ll be married so let’s just call each other by name. Call me Lucy and I’ll call you..." She raised her gaze and shuddered, seeing the scary look in his eyes.

But then blinked, only to see him smiling cheerfully at her.

For a moment there, she thought she saw him glare down at her with hatred, his eyes were dark and he had a frown. Or, was she just imagining it?

He had never had such a scary expression with her before so maybe it was her imagination.

But what was this chill she was feeling on her shoulders? It was like someone was aiming to rip her apart. Such a scary feeling.

She attempted to turn around to where she was getting that eerie feeling from, wondering if there was someone in that direction.

"Miss Lucy," Max called, placing his hand on her shoulders and she turned her gaze back to him. "I believe it’s time to leave. I called you here so we could check out your wedding dress but it seems you’re not feeling too well."

"N-no. I’m fine." She said, shaking her head. "Well, the truth is, I keep having nightmares these days. I never thought I’d see such a gruesome sight at such a young age and it still scares me till now." She said and threw herself on Max. "It’s scary that my sister was such a person. She was dangerous but I didn’t think it was that bad."

Max’s contrast darkened as he looked down at Lucy who was cozying up to him. She kept talking on and on, badmouthing Valerie but he had only one thing in mind and that was to shove a knife in her back, take it out, and then repeat that action till Valerie had a smile on her lips.

He raised his gaze to look at Valerie who was standing in the dark, upstairs with her eyes glowing with hatred and he smirked. Anything to have her throw herself on him.

He loathed this vermin that had always given Valerie a hard time, but he was also doing this for Valerie’s sake. Her revenge was as important as his desire to own her completely. Because once the revenge plan was successful, she would have no one to divert her attention from him.

This little... he could sacrifice his body a little just to help her achieve her goal... And his goal.

"There, there." He said, patting Lucy’s back. "There’s no need to keep thinking of scary things."

"But it’s just so scary." She said and sniffed.

Max looked aside with a glazed look in his eyes. When it was time to kill this bitch, he would like to take the first strike before letting Valerie finish her off.

He sighed and kissed her forehead, smiling like he meant it.

"There, this should chase away those scary thoughts from your head." He said, "Each time you have a nightmare, just think of me, okay?"

Lucy broke herself out of her stunned state and blushed heavily. She didn’t expect him to suddenly kiss her forehead. It was unexpected.

"I... I will." She said, acting bashful. "I’ll always think of you."

"That’s good. Now, you should get going first. I’ll meet you there after taking care of some business here."

"To where?" Lucy asked and Max tilted his head.

"To the designer who called and told me your wedding gown is ready." He said and her eyes widened.

"Already?"

"Yes. Now, you should try it on before I get there. I heard the groom isn’t supposed to see the bride in her wedding dress till the day of the wedding. It’s a bad omen." He said, bidding his time and she nodded, still blushing.

"You take care of me so well." Lucy said in a soft voice. "I like you so much and I’m happy we’re getting married."

Max kept smiling after hearing that but his smile was a little crooked. Those words... There was only one person he wanted to hear that from. Hearing it from another... And one that hurt her no less, was utterly disgusting.

"Jeremy," Max called, "Please see Miss Lucy to her car. We’ll go after her once I’m done with my work."

Lucy felt the air suddenly turn cold and didn’t want to make a mistake so she went ahead with his arrangement and left.

Once she was out the door, Max’s face contorted and he turned around. The first thing he went to do was wash his lips.

"Now, shall we go and see how my dear wife is doing?"

He went to Valerie’s room but she wasn’t there. The bathroom door was opened and he heard sounds. He walked over, only to find Valerie throwing up heavily in the toilet bowl.

She looked like she would throw up her intestines along with the fluids that were gushing out of her mouth.

"Valerie!" Max called and Valerie looked up, cleaning her mouth with the rag in her hand. Her eyes looked dead.
