Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 80: Meeting Aldo - II
It seemed so real to look at. Watching her friend who was lying down on the bed unconscious and probably half-dead to the world, wrapped around in bandages Evelyn realised how short life was.
Awfully short for someone who had not even started to live it yet.
She gulped and neared him.
"You cannot believe it too," Cara added from behind, "I cannot believe it either. I come here several times a day to make sure that this is a reality and not a dream. . . A nightmare that I am in."
Evelyn very slowly raised her hand and touched his clothed elbow. "This is the reality." She softly Murmured. "Very true," she said to herself before turning around.
"I am sorry," she said to Cara before pulling the tearfull woman in her arms, "this must be so, so hard for you."
Cara nodded into her chest. "His father does not like talking about this. He has even stopped sleeping in the same room with me because I always have red eyes and he hates that! I don’t know why but he never acknowledges it and it hurts me inside."
Evelyn let her talk and continued to have the woman as she very gently caressed her back.
"I don’t know why but he thinks it will make him weak! I hate the fact I cannot talk about this with my husband."
Cara sniff loudly before pulling away and wiping her tears. "Forgive me, I did not intend to lose control with you."
"You know it’s fine." Evelyn patted Cara’s shoulder. "I think you should sleep now. This must have been so emotional for you. I will see myself out."
"You won’t mind that?" Even though Cara looked sleepy and tired, she had not forgotten the manners of the host and seeing someone out of the house was one of them.
Evelyn shook her head with a smile. "Come on, you know I won’t."
Cara bit her wobbling lip as she palmed the side of Evelyn’s face. "Come again?"
Evelyn nodded, unable to keep her emotions and tears at bay.
Giving the woman one last hug Evelyn moved out of the room before giving a last glance in the direction of her friend.
She walked out of the door and watched as the elder woman slipped into her bedroom, closing the door behind her.
Evelyn descended the stairs and walked out of the house and into the car where Julian was standing and opened her door at the sight of her coming out.
Before Evelyn stepped inside the car and another car stopped behind them and the door opened only for Aldo’s father to walk out of it.
He stared at Evelyn before giving her a nod and then gave a nod to Julian.
Before Evelyn could take a step in his direction it was Julian who spoke in her ear, "we have to leave, madam."
The words made Evelyn turn around and look at Julian. So, that was what the nod meant.
Evelyn gave one back to Mr. Mancini before sleeping in the car and after her Julian did. The wheels of the car rolled past the entry of the house and exited the estate completely.
Evelyn One Last time turned around to look at the house. Mr Mancini was walking inside without a look back at her.
But what was she expecting? Why would he look at her?
If any say it was his wife that Evelyn had a relationship with and then it was his son. Mr Mancini was someone who had a relationship with her father who was now dead meaning that relationship was over.
Death, her mind repeated.
It was uncertain how soon it would come to someone and how delayed it could be. Watching her friend lie down on a bed like that made Evelyn briefing her life questions and options. What has she done in her life that has made her happy?
By far all Evelyn had done was stay within the boundaries set by her father. She had never ventured out of them.
Aldo did not have any kind of boundaries and if he did they were far away from the ones that Evelyn had yet he was practically fighting for life at this point.
Evelyn wanted to cry. She felt scared and the recent attack on the House of the Don that she was in the protection under did not help. The chilling sensation on her spine reminded her of the fear that she felt that night was constantly there.
She did not even realise that they had reached the apartment building until it was Julian opening the door for her.
Evelyn shook herself out of it as she stepped out of the car and into the building. Without looking at anyone, even the man standing outside the lift, Evelyn punched the number of the floor that she was going to go to.
She let out a shaky sigh before scratching her forehead and comfortably. There was this feeling gnawing inside her that irritated her to no limits.
The doors of the lift opened to the penthouse after she feeded the passcode inside. Evelyn marched into the house but stopped when she saw who was sitting on the dining table.
It was Bella Rosa.
Bella very lazily looked up from something that she was reading and then stayed and Evelyn before narrowing her eyes very slightly.
"I love my kids and the tantrums," she said as she got up after folding the file, "it’s one thing when someone else contributes to them." Bella smiled at Evelyn stiffly. "You ate their candy stash."
Ah, shit. The stash.
"Uh. . Um," Evelyn stammered for the right word on what to say. She was not in her right mind and she could not conjure up something.
"Nevermind that," Bella waved off, "I’m sure you can find something to bring next time you go to the mall or any sweet shop. You certainly like having them."
"Now," Bella stood in front of Evelyn with folded arms in front of her chest, "how were the Mancini?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
