Chapter 76: Sympathy from the don. - I

’I apologize for the way I pushed you out.

~ Lucas.’

Evelyn’s eyes re-read the words again and again but did not say it out loud. She was very much aware of the presence of the don that was glaring holes into her skull.

Evelyn quickly folded the paper and just as she was about to shower in her pocket the don interrupted her.

"Do you mind if I see it?"

The words seemed like they were asking for her permission to that was not the case. Salvatore was merely taking the pain of being polite. Otherwise, if he wanted he could have actually snatched away the paper from her and be done with the whole matter.

"It’s just a note, don." Evelyn gave him a nervous smile. "It has hardly a sentence written in it."

Salvatore stared at her ignoring the words. His outstretched hand told her that he had not taken his decision bad and she was to hand it over to him.

But Evelyn did not see the reason why. Even if she was the protection of the family it did not make sense for her to lay everything in the open for them to see.

It did make sense for her to tell them every major event in her life but something as small as a letter that was in the least bit of threatening, it did not seem compulsory nor necessary.

"How about I keep it with me instead?" She asked with a little hope. "it’s just letter and chocolates. Would you like to have some?" She picked one out of the many and held it out to him but instead of holding out she placed at and his outstretched hand.

"I have heard that it is delicious." She even went as far as to add.

Salvatore take his hand back and folded them in front of his chest before leaning against the chair and eyeing her.

He remained silent for a few minutes before speaking up eventually. "do you really think that you can trade chocolate with me when I want to see the note?" His voice barely sounded entertained at what she was doing. He was bored and unamused.

The main reason that I fail in was doing get was because of Lucas. He had sent her the chocolate bouquet but the problem was Evelyn told Salvatore that he would also have to reveal the reason to why Lucas sent it in the first place.

And the Don was not going to stop at the information received. If he knew something was up, which he probably would, he would continue to sniff around until he found out what it was and Evelyn knew he would.

Also Lucas would not lie to his brother and the concerns that Evelyn had conveyed very softly and gently, in the most polite manner possible would be out in the open.

She looked at the small note and then at Salvatore who was still staring at her. Evelyn, very calmly, again looked at the paper in her hands before crumbling it together into the smallest peice and putting it in her mouth.

She chewed it and then swallowed it with great pain before looking at the don.

The helplessness that she portrayed on her face was real and Evelyn actually felt it in her soul. There was no way that she was getting caught in the crossfire that she had left neither was she placing herself in the aftermath of it.

"Really?" He chuckled actually looking like he was highly entertained at this point. "Do you really think that could be the end of it?"

Evelyn nodded her head. She had honestly hope for it to end.

He chuckled. "What is my shove my fingers down your throat?" He wondered out loud. "Or, wait a minute I have something even better, how about instead of doing that, I cut you open and take out the bloody and chewed paper ball inside you?"

If Evelyn was not panicking in the presence of Salvatore she was certainly doing that now. The words, and if not them, his expressions caused chills to run down her spine making Evelyn gulp.

It looks like he would do it. She believed that if he had the chance to carry it out, at the moment, he would do it right now.

If she was not in the protection of his family she was dead sure that Salvatore would do it. He would cut her open for the paper ball.

She licked her neverously as she wondered on what to say.

"Apart from that," Salvatore spoke up but this time looked extremely serious, "why did you choose to swallow it instead of letting me see what it was and who it was from?"

"It was nothing." Evelyn was quick to defend herself. " Besides these are just chocolates, Don, sent by friend."

So these chocolates and a note was sent to his house by her friend? Someone send chocolates to his house?

He was really impressed with the daring attitude that friend who supposedly had. If the friend could dare to do enough, he could certainly dare to stand in front of Salvatore too.

"A friend sent you chocolates in my house without my permission?" Salvatore laughed it off. "do you really saying that any parcel has the the clearance to come in and out of the building without my permission or without protocols?"

Now he came to the reasoning. It was the truth when he said that no person could get in and out without the clearance of the protocols is set by the security. Every parcel went through security check and it was actually opened to make sure that it was not poisoned neither was a bomb inside it or even any kind of poison.

If this was not bought in the market and was sent home, it had to be checked.

So naturally when Everything told him that it was her friend who had sent a bouquet of chocolates to her the first thing that Salvatore had his eyes own was the god that brought in. The chocolate had to go through clearance but that came a little after the fact that the friend had to be inside the approved list of people to send them anything.

"W-what?" Evelyn stuttered. She gulped before blurting out, "A friend can’t send it?"

"No," Salvatore shook his head. "Unless he and his family background is thoroughly checked and approved he cannot send anything to you inside this building. In fact it is the same in my father’s house."

Wow, her father was really far behind from these people. Not only were they reach they made investments in their securities. These investment in securities were massive.

She closed her eyes and sighed.

Salvatore knew that something was wrong and he was going to keep it dragging on and on until he found out something to pick up and to question her on.

Evelyn also considered that it was the guard who had brought up the chocolate bouquet which meant that if Lucas had sent it, the guard knew. There was absolutely no reason for July because she was going to get caught in the end if she kept in this up.

"It was your brother who sent it." She revealed. "I’m sorry for stalling it as much as I did but it was your brother who sent it."

"Lucas or Marcello?" He ignored everything else.

"Lucas," she clarified as she shifted comfortably on the chair, "he sent them as an apology."

Apology? "What for did he apologized to you?"

Now came the tricky part. Level in did not want to rat Lucas out because he could do the same.

She clicked her tongue before hissing and clutching her stomach. "Oh, that hurts."

"What?" He frowned and leaped at his feet standing up and nearing her. "What is it?"

Evelyn shook her head as she bit her lip. "Oh God it hurts so so much!" She whispered in pain.

Salvatore had no Fucking clue. " What is going on, Evelyn? Tell me what can I do? Should I call the doctor?"

Evelyn shook her head. "Periods." She muttered, making Salvatore fall silent at that.

"Oh," he said.

As a brother and a son Salvatore head seldom heard the tales of his mother and his sister being on their menstruation cycles but he had never experienced. He had been too busy to stay in the house and hear them screaming.

It was usually the youngest of them that was Marcello who had to deal with it.

In his adult life he has still not experienced for a woman to be on her period while she was in his presence, especially in pain.

"Uh. . ." He scratched his head. "Would you like me to carry you to your room? You can have dinner there if you want."

Fuck, what was he to say. "Do you want to go to the hospital and get some kind of injection for your pains?"

Evelyn shook her head and just took the option given. Without a word she stood up and walked out of the room. She had the chance to flee and she took it.
