Chapter 56: Talks of a claim - I

After a few seconds or maybe minutes everyone in the room was quiet and Evelyn had started to eat her breakfast.

It was slightly cold but it did not affect her. All she cared about was to eat it quickly and then address the issue with her friend who had taken some time out of his schedule and tried to visit her.

The moment Evelyn bit her last bite, she placed her fork and knife down before turning to the don and waiting for his instructions.

The don however, seemed to be enjoying having his breakfast very leisurely even if it was cold.

Evelyn glanced back at Giovanni who shrugged in return. It was obvious that he knew whose house it was and whose rules were going to be followed.

"You can talk to him if you want," Salvatore sipped his coffee, "no one is holding you back from doing that."

Evelyn did not really believe him at first. So he was going to stay here why she told to Giovanni?

"Okay," she whispered testing the waters to see if he would reject the idea of her talking to him but when he did not reply and nodded, Evelyn finalized the decision of getting up and walked into where he was sitting.

"Hi," She smiled at Giovanni as she sat down on the adjacent sofa next to him. She didn’t look at the guard who nodded at her but did not move.

So the conversation was going to be heard and if it was not clear to the Don then the guard would definitely be recite it to him.

"What brings you here, Gio?" Evelyn kept her voice soft and gentle but she was not ready to let him in her heart just yet.

Giovanni’s hands were fidgeting and he continued to do so. This was something Evelyn notice when she had first seen him in the left. He continued to fidgit with his hands which told her that he was nervous.

"Last night. . You callled me." Giovanni sad quote hesitantly as his eyes darted at Salvatore. "I just wanted to apologize."

"For what?" Evelyn tilted her head. "Please, tell me." The perfect thing about politeness was no one could understand if you made a comment passive-aggressively and she had learned to do that over time.

Gio winced. "Well, you were not there at the moment and we just changed the plan because the line was not moving forward and—"

"And that was not enough to leave me behind. You could have dropped me a text." She snapped at him losing her temper as he kept on going.

"I could have, yes," he agreed right away, "and I’m sorry for not doing that." He raised his hands in surrender as he said, "I am really am." Before he glanced behind her once again and then looked at her.

She blinked her eyes very calmly to get rid of the anger bubbling inside her. Did he really underestimate her enough to not noticed that he was again and again glancing at the don whose protection she was in at the moment?

Evelyn closed her hands in a fist over her lap. She felt like slapping the shit out of the man in front of her who called her his friend. How in the world. . . .she sighed.

She could be the bigger and better person.

With a smile, Evelyn said, "thank you for being generous enough to come and apologize to me in person. I appreciate the efforts, Gio."

The man who called her his friend looked taken aback by the sudden approach because Evelyn had acknowledged his apology and told him that he was wrong on the spot. He had made the mistake and Evelyn did not do anything to deny it neither did she tried to dismiss it.

"Oh. ." A stunned gio nodded. "so. ."

Evelyn widened her smile slightly, "I think you must have some work to do. Otherwise we do have University that is if your hangover is cured." She tilted her head with a bouncy, happy look over her face. "So, what do you say?"

Giovanni blinked. "Uh. . . yeah, I do have work to do so," he got up and pointed at the lift, " excuse me. Have a nice day." He give her a curt yet firm nod and Evelyn stared at him until the lift doors closed and the display showed the floors below.

Now she turned to Salvatore who was sitting there reading the newspaper as his cup of coffee was finished.

"Did you say something to him?" Evelyn asked him but did not get up from the sofa. "He was looking at you."

"I don’t deny being handsome."

". . " She blinked at him and then looked back at the left. What was she supposed to say to that?

She gulped and looked at him again, before repeated, "did you really say something to him?"

This time Salvatore took a deep breadth in and abandoned the paper on the table before turning to look at her. "Why does it matter if I said anything to him or not? With the power I have, even everyone does anything I want, anyway."

There was no lie in that. Because Salvatore was truly a person of power. So even if you was just sitting there, minding his own business, people were always going to look at him like he was about to go ahead and kill them all.

"You really didn’t?" She tried once again and he shrugged leaving her confused once again.

What was that supposed to mean? But if she went with the other option that’s Salvatore did not talk to her friend then why was her friend looking at Salvatore again and again?

Was Gio’s Apology genuine?

Evelyn bit her lip thinking about it.

"You are thinking too much about it," he said and stood up from his chair. "Get dressed for the day if you have recovered from your hangover."

She nodded and moved upstairs as he followed behind.
