Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 55: heart to heart with the don - III
Salvatore sat down and picked up his fork and knife before cutting into the day and said, "the house phone is for the reception to call. If even one of us is inside the house, they will call on the phone or otherwise whoever the guest is, if they are classified they can come up or else they will be asked to leave."
She nodded understanding that he had a group of people that became unannounced. " Why did they call now?"
Without looking at her Salvatore answered, "it was your friend Giovanni Rosario."
Evelyn’s head snapped up that very second. "What? Giovanni? What is he doing here?"
Salvatore shrugged and the action seemed comical on him. "I do not know and I did not bother to ask him why he was in my house."
"But you have the penthouse. He is standing down stairs."
Salvatore tutted. "I own the building, Evelyn."
Oh. . Evelyn wondered why she had not thought of that because it makes complete sense for him to own the building that he was living in.
"Well. . How long is he supposed to wait downstairs?" She asked, gripping her fork tightly.
Salvatore placed his cutlery down before leaning back comfortably on the chair and folded his arms across his chest to focus on her. " Do you want to meet him?" When she did not give him an immediate reply he asked again, ’Answer me, Evelyn, do you want to meet him?’
She gulped. "Well, he is already here and it won’t be nice to keep him waiting since he made the effort to come."
He chuckled, "a lot of things have happened and I have never felt the need to be nice to anyone." He gave her a smile but it was anything but out of happiness. He tilted his head, "if you want him to come up you can redial the number on the house phone."
Was it something she was supposed to take? For the moment it seems like he was challenging her to do it. One step she took into the direction of the house phone and one bullet it would be for her.
"Uh. . "
"Go," he said. It was all for her to get up from the chair and walked towards the house phone to redial the number.
"Good morning Don," the female receptionist wished as she picked up the phone.
"Hello," she gulped and said back, "Is Giovanni Rosario still there?"
"Yes, ma’am." The receptionist replied. "Shall I send him away?"
"No, please send him up." Evelyn told her what to do before hanging up.
When she walked towards the dining table a certain thought made her halt in her way. "Wait a minute, Don he is not aware of the code to your penthouse."
Salvatore turns to her with a smile, "that’s good then. He can stay in the lift and you can talk." After saying that the man went back to eating his sausages.
Evelyn scoffed. The man could surely be sarcastic when it was least expected of him.
She took her seat on the dining table again but sat on the side of it.. That way it was a clear view to the lift doors.
"Sit properly, Evelyn. I understand that your friend is coming but I do not want you to forget basic manners." He snapped, making her turn around and sit straight.
Who knew the don could be so big on manners.
She gulped when she felt the familiar ping of the lift. She turned around to see a guard standing with her friend. That meant that one of them had accompanied her friend because he did not know the password to the apartment.
Giovanni smiled at her when he noticed where she was setting and stepped outside the left only for the guard to hold him back.
"Let the Don acknowledge you first," the guard said as he held onto Gio’s neck.
At that moment Evelyn stayed quiet because there was nothing she could do. If her friend who belongs to another family was going to enter the house he had to enter on Salvatore’s terms who did not look like he was going to agree to it.
"Don?" She whispered, staring at him for him to give his permission. "He is here."
"I am aware of that, Evelyn." He said but did not bother to look up from his plate and the newspaper that was beside it. "His visit was unplanned so he will have to wait until I have free time to entertain him."
Entertain him? The don definitely knew how to be funny.
Nevertheless she focused on something more important, "He is here to meet me."
This time he looked up while the fork was held mid-air right in front of his mouth. The look alone made her shut up.
"I know why he is here, Evelyn and I am not going to allow him to talk to you after what happened last night unless I am present." He said and by the words alone Evelyn you that he was determined enough to not let them talk alone.
If the sun was like this level in wonder what would have happened if Angelo was sitting on the head table and her friend had come to visit after practically insulting her the night before. At the moment she was sure that Angelo D’alessandro would not even let her friend enter.
But she understood it for the older man. Why was Salvador being so concerned about her well being? Being aware of the eyes that were staring at her from behind Evelyn felt humiliated.
"Can we please have him sit in the living area?" She whispered to him in desperation of having her friend receive better treatment. "The least we can do is sit instead of having to stay in the lift. What if someone is the lift?"
"No," he said very calmly, "he stays where he is."
Evelyn felt the need to break the plate on his head. She never felt frustration like this build up before inside her. Why was he doing this? What was his purpose of doing anything like this in the first place?!
She had never met such an infuriating man and the problem here was she could not stand against Salvatore!
"Don," she gulped, "please—"
"Silence," he said and after that Evelyn did not try.
