Chapter 41: A Little Lunch - I

University was much more difficult than the YouTube videos showed. The study blogs are beautiful and such an aesthetic thing to look at but when she had to do it herself it was just so tedious.

Evelyn turned to his side with the arm raised, "Marcello—" she hissed. For today, mashallah had refused to walk out of bed and Evelyn had grown habitual to wake him up after class.

Glancing around the classroom to make sure that no one has seen her slippers she picked up her books before placing them in her bag and walking out of the class.

For now she had a lot of free time on her hands because the next class was almost an hour and a half away. So Evelyn decided to go to the library and just sit quietly.

"Evelyn?"

She stopped and turned around to see a familiar face. Someone who should have once called a friend. "Gio!" Evelyn screened and immediately went into his awaiting arms. "Oh, I missed you!"

Giovanni Rosario laughed. "I did too." He patted her back lovingly.

Evelyn knew Giovanni from a very long time. They both had grown along with each other as their fathers were business associates. They had grown up together and gone to school together until Gio had to leave for business with his father.

Pulling back Evelyn gave him a dazzling smile before asking the much awaited question, "are you back for good or are you going to go back to business again?"

Gio shrugged. "My elder brother is coming to terms with everything again. When his ex-girlfriend cheated on him it really messed up." They started walking together.

"I heard from my father that he had fallen quite far away. Was he really doing drugs?"

"It’s almost public knowledge now evelyne," Giovanni chuckled, "I am shocked that you are still not aware of it."

Evelyn gave a small shrug at that. " It has nothing to do with me. You need my help, you would have called." She had never been a person to believe in gossip and lies until someone told her that up front. Living in a world where no one was happy with the firing of another level Evelyn knew better than to believe what someone was telling her. She will always go for believing what her eyes saw.

Gio smiled her way. "it’s good to know that you have still remained the same. It’s hard to find people of character and personality."

Evelyn grinned. She never knew what it meant to have character and personality until she met her step mother. Now she knew what it meant to have self esteem and respect along with morals in daily life.

"So what courses are you taking?" Evelyn asked as they entered the cafeteria. "I haven’t seen you in any of my classes today."

Gio placed the order for them before guiding her to sit. " I just joined today. I actually came from the registration. Hopefully, you will be seeing me in your classes soon."

"Can’t wait." She grinned happily.

She truly could not wait. It had been a long time since she had found similarity because every friend of hers had been busy with their own lives. The girls were married away or some were taking on the business and did not have much of a time and some of the boys had taken over their father’s business or were still learning the ropes.

"I heard about your father." He took her hand in his over the table. "I am so sorry I was not there with you Evelyn. My mother did attend the funeral I hope she was able to convey our condolences."

"Yes, your mother was there." Evelyn agreed. "Her presence was helpful." Giovanni’s mother had been a rock during the entire funeral as she stood by the side of Evelyn. Even though she did it silently as well Evelyn was still grateful for her support. "Where were you then?"

"Australia." Giovanni replied not finding it offensive in any way to hide away from her. "I am I am really sorry I could not come, Evelyn." He squeezed her hand and she smiled.

Once their orders were ready, Gio stood up to take them from the counter and the once again walked out of the cafeteria not waiting and sitting there.

"Do you want to have lunch somewhere? How long are you free for?" Gio asked her as they walked to the parking lot.

Evelyn shrugged lightly. "I still have an hour to go. Pizza?"

Gio chuckled, "still the same." He muttered under his breath as he shook his head. His hand and reached over to his back pocket and he pulled out the car keys. Just as the car beeped back he noticed someone standing next to his car and recognised the man immediately.

"Look," he nudged Evelyn’s hand, "that is Salvatore De’alassandro."

Evelyn’s eyes widened involuntaryily as she looekd to where gio pointed and there he stood.

Salvatore De’alassandro.

Even though they were glasses in front of his eyes she could feel his eyes at her. It was like he was looking no where else but straight at her.

Evelyn immediately nodded in respect. She watched as Salvatore knows his hand and beckoned her clothes with his finger. Not wanting to make the don wait, Evelyn abandoned her friend and ran towards him.

"Yes. .sir?" She spoke a little hesitantly not knowing how Salvatore would react.

"Marcelo is not here." He stood up straight no longer leaning against the car. "I will be dropping your home today. Your last class is cancelled."

It was? Evelyn glanced at her phone to see a notification from her mails. The professor had cancelled the class but how did Salvatore know that first?

" Uh . ." She glanced back at Gio who stood there patiently watching them with narrowed her eyes. Turning back to Salvatore evelyne pointed to the man behind, "I have a friend with me. . ."

Salvatore’s eyes moved behind her.

"Does he have a car?" Salvatore asked as his eyes were trained on the men standing behind them but the question was directed at Evelyn.

"Yes, he does." Evelyn answered truthfully and it was not just one car that he owned. There were several.

Salvatore’s eyes turned to Evelyn, "Then you do not have to be concerned." He turned to the passenger side and opened the door for her.

Evelyn did not look back but once she was seated she tugged on her earlobe, apologizing silently to the man who waved it off and walked to his own car.

After Salvatore buckled his seat belt in they were on the way to the house.

"Did you have lunch yet?" Salvatore without taking his eyes off the road.

Evelyn turned to look at him before shaking her head.

"Words, Evelyn."

Evelyn repeated her answer quickly, "No, I haven’t had lunch yet."

Salvatore gave her a curt nod and before she knew that they had stopped in front of an establishment. When Evelyn read the name written in the national language she was not sure if the restaurant had been there for a long time or if it was new. She was not someone who went out to eat a lot and it certainly did not work out in her favour.

"Come," she gasped slightly when she saw Salvatore holding out her door. She did not even realise when he had gotten out of his car.

As they walked inside the establishment he did not place a hand on her back that people would usually do. That much she was aware of.

"Table for two, sir?" The waitress asked and received a nod in return. They were led to a table right next to a glass wall from where they could look outside.

"Thank you for the lunch," Evelyn said as the waitress walked away after having them menus.

Salvatore nodded as his eyes went to her before they went back to the menu again and focused there.

Evelyn to the small window to appreciate the man in front of her. He always had a five o’clock shadow and it looked so attractive on him giving him the perfect rough and tough look. From the way his jaws clenched she knew it was told in the hearts of many. His jacket was tightened around her shoulders and she knew that it was nothing but pure muscle and there.

The nose seemed perfect on his face even though it flared slightly at the end. Just as he looked up from the menu to her, Evelyn snapped her eyes down.

She gulped and concentrated on the type of pasta that she was going to attack on the table today. By the photos that were on the menu the pasta was going to taste heavenly or it was going to look like it.

"Have you decided on what to order?" The waitress came back and Salvatore nodded, converting his order to the woman. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Evelyn did the same hand in back her menu to the woman.

It was then she realised after handing her menu a way that now they had nothing to distract themselves with. Now they would have to talk.
