Chapter 39: Make up your mind - I

Not wanting to linger around the don of the house, Evelyn nodded at him in respect and then turned around to leave. She walked up the stairs to her room. Just as the hallway appeared and she knew that she was out of sight, Evelyn started to walk even quickly and ended up breaking in a jog to her room.

Her hand reached out to the door not to open it when she heard, "You are in a hurry,"

She turned around immediately.

"Any problem?" Salvatore asked her with a raised eyebrow.

Evelyn shook her head rapidly.

Salvatore titled his head, watching her closely. "How are you settling in?"

"Nice, good. Perfectly well." The words flew out of her words. She gulped in anticipation. Why was he here?

He nodded but did not take his greyish-brown eyes off of her. "I heard you were going to the university with Marcello. Is everything alright there?"

"Yeah, everything is good. It is better than expected actually," she told him sincerely, making him nod at her again.

"Is there something you want from your family house?" Salvatore asked, making her look at him quizzically. He further explained, "You shifted here, I am asking if you want to bring anything from your previous house."

"Ahh," that was what he meant. She shrugged carelessly, "I don’t think my relativ—"

"I’ll be waiting downstairs." He said before curtly nodding at her and walking away.

Evelyn continued to stand there watching him leave. Why did he want her to go to her previous house? Was he going to drop her there?

She bit her lip and jumped on the spot for a bit. What was she supposed to do here? She could not just outright refuse The Don of another house when she had no one backing her.

She closed her eyes and groaned slightly before going in and taking her purse making it show that her ids and wallets were inside. If he left her there then at least she would have the money to buy an apartment or go to a hotel.

She walks down stairs with no hurry and found Salvatore waiting in a car. She opens the door to the passenger side and just as she closed it with her seat belt on Salvatore started to drive.

From the rear view mirror on her side Evelyn could see two cars following them and one ahead. She scoffed silently in her mind. Who would dare to attack a member of the Alexandra family especially in their territory?

Evelyne briefly glanced at his hand that was on the gear stick. The veins were so visible that she had to look away. The man was the definition of being hot but he was also the definition of being dangerous and out of reach and she understood that completely.

They drove silently to her house and soft tunes of piano music played throughout the ride.

This time Salvatore got out first and went around to her side to open her door. The man kept on surprising her completely but she kept her expressions in control.

Evelyn’s eyes moved to the parking lot in her house. She could not see the garage but the parking in front of the house was empty which meant that maybe her relatives had left.

She prayed to the god that they had. She could not bear any more embarrassment.

When she entered the house it was empty. Evelyn could not believe that even though her relatives were gone there was stupid enough to not even lock the door behind them.

She knew that it was very less likely to have the servants around because whenever Evelyn was gone her relatives were never going to pay for their salaries and in the end they had to go. She had released Maria before she went away.

Salvatore opened the door for her and Evelyn walked in.

"Who is it?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Evelyn stopped when she heard the words, not believing her ears.

From the kitchen worked out one woman that she refused to acknowledge. It was her father’s second wife, Erika Bianchi.

"You," Erika stopped walking and narrowed her eyes at her step daughter, "where were you? Already going whoring around before your father is cold in his grave?!" She shrieked yet her face barely moved. The Botox was in full effect.

Evelyn did not even bother to blink at her words. This is not the first time she had when excused and this was certainly not going to be the last.

"I am here to take some stuff from my room." Evelyn answered her before turning to Salvatore and giving him a nod. She walked up the stairs and could hear the footsteps of her mother trailing behind her.

Evelyn opened the door to her room and walked into her closet where she emptied two boxes and started selling them off with stuff even remotely important to her.

"So now you think you can ignore me?" Erika plopped on the couch as she stared at her stepdaughter. "Who is the man with you? You need to learn to do better otherwise he won’t be marrying you."

Evelyn could barely control her anger at the statement but she still gave out a huge breath controlling herself and not wasting a word on the woman. Silvano D’alessandro was right, she had to think about her future before it was too late.

"If you need my help you know where to find me. You cannot keep a man if you do not have the experience to do so." Erika tilted her head, "you will never know when he leaves you for a younger woman."

"Or when a young woman sleeps her way through." Evelyn muttered under her breath not wanting to engage with the woman.

Evelyn continued to pack everything away before going into the closet and pulling out the memory box. It contains every memory she had with her parents in her early childhood before the witch came along.

Erika watched everything with keen eyes.
