Chapter 211: An attack in the house - III

The heel of his foot continued to tap on the bottom of the car in impatience. Michelle had to fight him off the front seat when he received the call from Marco.

Everyone knew that if he drove down to the house, accidents were going to happen.

"I am driving fast, Don," Michelle chose to take the liberty.

"Not fast enough," Salvatore seethed out the words.

They were covering up distance quicker than ever. The traffic police have been doing their work or right when they had been purposely holding out the lights only for his call to pass.

The news related to him by Marco circled in his mind. It was infuriating to say the least but it happened.

Salvatore opened his door and stepped out of the car even before it came to a stop in front of his house.

At this point he cared about nothing but going and checking over Evelyn first. He climbed up the stairs, taking two at a time and doing so very effortlessly.

The moment he reached her room he slammed the door open and came face to face with the doctor that appeared to be leaving.

"Don," Marco nodded at him. "He was just going to hand over the list of the medicines to the guard."

It was smart of him to provide an explanation when Salvatore saw the doctor leaving without telling him how his wife had been.

Moving his eyes away from the doctor, aside and seat Evelyn before standing near the edge of the bed.

"It is evident that she has had a forceful blow to the head." The doctor stands in front of Salvatore and near Evelyn. "Enough to knock her out."

"Why?"

"We Do not know," Marco answered. "And forgive me to say, but you would not believe what we found in the cameras."

Intrigued enough, he looked at Marco, a silent go for him to go ahead.

"We did catch her running and someone chasing after her but that someone had a mask on their face."

Salvatore narrowed his eyes.

"Not only that but, madam was also seen running with a knife."

"A knife?"

"Dagger I would say," Marco added further, " it was quite heavy and I could tell, it was meant for killing."

Salvatore ran the facts in her mind just to get them in order.

He received a call from Marco only to find out that his wife had painted on the entrance to the dining room meant for the servants and now he learnt that she was being chased in her house by a masked man while she had a dagger in her hands.

"Where is the dagger?"

Marco gulped, "the man to get with him. That was the first thing he did after he knocked her out. He snatched the dagger from her hands."

"Anything specific about the dagger?"

Marco chose to remain silent for a moment and that was the longest moment of his life. It meant something.

"Not that I remember, no," he shook his head grimly, "it was a normal dagger with black handle. The only thing that looked out of the blue was madam holding it."

That it did seem out of the blue, out of the ordinary.

For someone who had been sheltered almost all her life, seeing someone like her hold a dagger did put a lot of questions in his mind.

Why did she have to hold them in the first place? She could have shouted or called for someone, but she chose to take up the dagger and run into the kitchen.

"What was going on in the kitchen?" Was his next question. He has to know, why out of everywhere she aimed for that particular room.

Marco once again fell silent and Salvatore could read the answer. The butler had no idea why Evelyn had rushed into the kitchen.

That practically concluded the conversation why Evelyn had rushed there. If there was someone who could answer it, it was the woman that was lying in the bed knocked out cold.

The next question seemed to be heavier and far more important. "Who chased the man?"

For that his eyes flickered from Evelyn to Marco. For the first time in his life, he hoped that one of his men had caught the intruder and had not shot him dead.

"Umm.." Marco’s face twisted and the break in his character was enough to disappoint Salvatore.

"Really?" He scoffed. "Fucking hell!" He roared.

The frustration he said had reached the peak. Not only had his wife been attacked in the scaredity of his house that the included had also managed to run away.

"No one caught the man? No man caught his face?" He repeated with his hands on his face as he breathed out in frustration. "Found out who attacked my wife?"

"Are you telling me that the thousands of men that I have employed here are of no use because anyone, any intruder can get in and out of here?! My house?!" His roars were surely heard across the entire house as he intended to.

If anyone had not heard, then the people that had would spread rumours and relay the news.

"Yes," Marco nodded, but bowed his head. "We failed. We prioritised the donna and by the time we went back to check on the man he had already fled."

Classic case of miscalculation and miscommunication was what was done here.

Only had his men failed in giving orders, they had failed miserably in taking the lead.

The task of again before snapping his fingers at Marco, "round them all in."

It was minutes before he was standing in front of the army of men that he had employed for the security of his house and the man that had failed clearly in protecting the most prized possession that he had.

"Does everyone know what happened today?" His voice was loud and clear enough to reach the ears of everyone. "There was an intruder in my house who attacked my wife, and left without a scratch on him."

No one spoke. Not even one of them moved or so much as looked into his eyes or above the floor.

"Do you know what I understand from this?" He raised his hands, pointing to the situation that happened here in this house. "I understand that I have employed incompetent men when it comes to protecting my wife in my house." His hand reached inside his jacket.

"Men that I was sure were trained enough," Salvatore pulled out the gun, "to protect someone inside the house and not in the motherfucking public."

Without anything anywhere in particular he shot the first shot immediately receiving a try and return and a man falling down on the floor, clutching his bleeding knee.

"Tells me that the man I employee and train with all of no use."

He Fired the second shot without remorse.

"That I am doing nothing but wasting away money when it comes to training all of you." Fired the third and the last shot for tonight,

killing the third man in one go.

"Look up," his voice turned deadly silent and on his command everyone looked up and at his face.

Each and every man in his employment was trained to show no emotion, Salvatore could smell it in the air.

They were all afraid of what was about to come and he was going to make it a reality for them.

"All of you are going to be fired from my house as guards." They were clearly not worthy enough to receive that title. "The next thing you will be guarding is a warehouse and after that, if you fail again, the next thing you will be guarding would be your coffin with you inside it."

He had no intention to employ the men again but if there was an invisible war coming to his door, he needed the soldiers.

These were irresponsible and clearly failures but they were also collateral damage that he could afford to lose since they had no skills.

"Dismissed," his voice rang out loudly, "this is the last day for you on these grounds."

There was no further explanation needed that these men were to back there bags this moment and leave the grounds immediately.

He stepped away from the balcony and Michelle came close. "What?"

"What is the butler told us is true but we have to focus on something more important." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"What can be more important than my wife being attacked in the house she lives in?"

Michelle took a few seconds to answer, " that might be an inside job."

Salvatore stiffened before he turned his face to Michelle who nodded. "The cameras have no forced entry, the cameras has no first exit which is why the guards failed to catch the intruder and that is the only possible reason I have."

So no sign of forced entry or exit was caught in the camera which could apparently prove his men failed to catch it.

"So that means.."

"That is an inside job." Salvatore finished his words.
