Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 199: On the brink of justice - III
"Wha-" the word got stuck in her mouth as Evelyn stared at the screen in horror and shock. "What the hell happened?"
The screen goes blank. No camera showed what was on its record.
She turned to look at Salvatore with wide eyes as if she could not believe what was happening. "Where did all of that go?!"
Salvatore did not appear as worried as she was. In fact he had his neutral expression on like nothing was bothering him.
That pissed her off more than anything.
If Evelyn was full of panic at this moment, then it was apparent that Salvatore was going to be the voice of reason.
"The cameras were cut off, Evelyn." He answered, keeping his eyes on her. "All cameras except the one where you exited the house from because that one did not operate on the same battery."
Evelyn looked back at the screen in front of her. All of them were dark. It was not like they had lost in action. It looked like they had been shut down.
Every camera except the one that she had managed to escape from?
It looked like a setup.
Hell, it was one, but she chose to purposely not say it.
"Why?" She questioned, still looking at the screen. "How?"
This was very unlikely to happen in the house of a Don, especially someone that was known throughout the world for what he did. There were two reasons and both of them were his legal and illegal business, both of the businesses required Salvatore to be secured at all times.
Imagine being blinded and after not knowing what happened in the house even with the cameras that were applied in quantity above the moderate level covering every NOOK and corner of the house.
"I don’t know, Evelyn," he sighed, before leaning over and pressing a few keys and bringing up another window. "Look here,"
Evelyn did.
It was Marco on the screen and he was living with one of the women, the maid, and it appeared to be 15 minutes past 9 in the evening.
"He.." she pointed at the screen and then turned to Salvatore, "is leaving?"
Salvatore nodded. "And he does not return until 4 in the morning and that was when you were long gone."
Evelyn gulped and looked at the screen again. There was nothing at the screen that might seem out of the ordinary.
In fact it was the regular coming and going out of the house by Guards and other people.
"Where was he?" Evelyn whispered while continuing to stare at the screen. Why was he gone for such a long time, especially at night?
"The maid he was with, Mia, got pregnant and is on her way for abortion."
Evelyn whipped her head in an instead to Salvatore who merely shrugged in return.
"Don’t look at me like that, Evelyn," he chided, "she should have known better. She can’t get pregnant because she is still here and the guy she got pregnant with is dead. Also considering the fact that she cannot speak does not have many options here."
Sad, Evelyn’s first thought was.
How the he—No.
Evelyn shook herself out of it. At the moment that maid and whatever her problem was not her concern. The problem was her daughter Arabella. The maid was not going to help her in any point of life which is why she was of no concern to Evelyn.
"And what about the other maid?"
"Apparently she had taken two pills of Xanax and was out for the night." He sighed. " I would have been more worried if it were a drug and she was telling them somehow but never mind," he shrugged, "she’s dead for getting drugged on the job."
Wow, okay.
"So why did you torture Marco?" The words left her mouth in a hurry because she could still not get the image of the butler beaten and reduced to almost the edge of the death of her mind.
He moved his eyes from her to the screen. "Because I had to know where he was. It was not in my knowledge that she was taken to the hospital." Salvatore gave her the side eye, "it is supposed to be something in your knowledge." He muttered under his breath even though it was heard by her very clearly.
It was meant to be a taunt and she understood it loud and clear.
"Being alone in a room isn’t exactly an ideal situation to know what’s going on in the house." She taunted, the retort was on the tip of a tongue.
He cocked up an eyebrow, "let that mouth give me another word of sass and I will put it to a good use."
Her cheeks caught heat at what he said and Evelyn hurriedly looked away from him.
The images flashed in her mind from how they had spent the time on the plane. How wet she felt after she was done with pleasuring him.
Evelyn wondered how was it possible that even though it felt forced, it was the best experience she had till now.
Shaking herself out of it, Evelyn focused on what was going on. The feeling of dread washed over her as she felt herself to come on to the same spot once before.
"So what now?" She asked, dramatically waving her hand in the air as she said, "my first assumption was Marco or one of the maids but as it appears as one of them was as high as a kite and the other was with Marco in a hospital. So I am left with no suspects in the house unless it was a guard."
"Could be," he replied in a clipped voice that seemed to be far away even if he was here. "I cannot erase that possibility but the camera to the entrance was not touched at all and I know that no one got in and out after Marco left."
Evelyn sighed before placing her head on the dark wood table. It seemed so smooth to the touch and the chord surface actually prevented her from getting a headache.
"What Now, Salvatore?" She spoke while resting her head on the wood. "We are on the same square of where it began."
She heard him sigh above her.
It appeared that he was just as tired as she was.
"I wish I could help you, Evelyn. But I need concrete evidence to point my finger to anyone. The organization does not run on democracy but I cannot go ahead and kill people without reason."
That was obvious. Democracy was far away from the organization and the likes of it, but if Salvatore went around killing people, then the loyalty that he got out of willingness would be long gone and he would be left with nothing but fear and rebellion surfacing.
Slight tears came to her eyes out of helplessness and Evelyn raised herself before getting out of the chair and facing her husband.
This was going to be hard to say but even he was not free of her suspicions.
"I understand that knowing that I was pregnant with someone else’s child is hard," she gulped, "it was the crime that you could have killed me for yet you dealt with it for two weeks."
"I understand that she was nothing to you but—but that baby meant something to me. And if you are not willing to find out who did that to her just find out who did that to me," she pointed at her chest, "someone threw your wife down the stairs and I think you should be a bit more than concerned Salvatore." Evelyn said the word ’concerned’ a bit more firmly for emphasis.
Blinking, she snapped out of the moment and gave him a little nod of respect before walking out of the room and dismissing herself.
She closed the rooms of lay behind her have no intention of the rude or disrespecting him any more than she already had.
Michelle no longer stood there meaning that he had left or was somewhere in the house after the task given to him by Salvatore was complete.
She silently climbed up the stairs and went to the third level of the house where her room was.
Salvatore and she were staying in different rooms and Evelyn could not be more thankful for that. Her priority was to find arabellaa and not get lost in lust.
Evelyn closed the door behind her and went directly to the bathroom when she stopped suddenly.
She saw something from the corner of her eyes making her turn into the direction and spot it on the coffee table.
It was small.. SIM or perhaps memory card?
Going over to it, she picked it up before raising to her to her eye level for inspection.
Someone left a small memory card on her coffee table?
She scoffed, finding that hard to believe. Someone had done this on a purpose and that purpose was for her to see what was in there.
But what was inside the memory card?
