Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 198: On the brink of justice - II
Days went by and there was nothing that she could find in regards to her daughter and there was nothing that she received in regards to her daughter from Salvatore.
It was like he was purposely keeping her on bay for this.
How many days had been that she had only seen Salvatore for a few seconds before you would take off again? 5 days? 7 days making it a week perhaps?
She huffed before staring down at the gates of the house on the balcony. This time she was not going to miss Salvatore coming in.
"Madam?"
Evelyn whipped around only to come face to face with the female servant that Evelyn had seen around here a lot. "Yes?"
"The Don is calling for you," Beth informed. "Follow me please."
Salvatore was inside? Surprised, she passed a glance to the gate of the house. She had been there to keep an eye on it but he had not yet entered in his Rolls royce.
Apparently, he was already in, which led her to believe that this house did not just have one Entrance.
She silently followed Beth back into the house and was surprised when she was not taken to the office of the don but into the basement.
Basements were strictly off the limits and Evelyn had never gone into one. But for Salvatore to invite her inside only meant that something was going to happen.
"I cannot go further than this." Beth stopped at the entrance of the basement and turned to Evelyn. "Michelle will take you down further."
Michelle? The enforcer?
That man looked like the human executioner from the mediaeval times. He was heavier than Salvatore not only that but he looks like a good crush on someone to dust by his hands.
Beth nodded and her eyes moved to someone behind Evelyn. She was visibly recoiling into herself and that was the moment when ever knew that Michelle was standing behind her.
"Donna," his heavy voice made her flinch slightly before Evelyn straightened herself and turned around with a professional smile on her face.
"Michelle," she tipped her head in greeting.
This was something that she had learnt from her stepmother; Erika. No matter how much you hated a person belonging to your spouse’s family or just anyone in your circle, the best part was to never let them know. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Follow me, Donna," the small mocking smile that he had on his face slipped and he stepped aside to walk into the basement. "Be careful of the stairs."
Paying heed to his warning, she stepped carefully on the stairs having enough of a trauma from falling down from them.
It was very dimly lit. Given that the basement has any kind of source of light from the outside, the only light that came from it was not an official source of bulbs, the old-fashioned ones, it was not exactly the scenario that would help anyone to see anything clearly.
Squinting her eyes repeatedly, Evelyn could tell that there was something going on because it was empty.
She was not familiar with the entire basement thing but what she knew from rumours, the basement was never supposed to be cleaned and if it was only two options could be responsible for it.
One; they had been through cleaning which had been overdue for a long time.
Two; there was a lady who was going to be brought down downstairs. Being in the basement was scary enough and she did not need to see the other tortures that had been brought down on the prisoners there.
And the second option in the situation seems to be the better fitting one. They had planned for her to get in.
Is that why he had been absent for 5 days?
Evelyn had barely seen his face at all. Salvatore was almost always in and out of the house and it was difficult to get a glimpse of him.
Michelle stepped back and turned around to stand behind her. The moment he did, Evelyn could see Marco sitting on a chair and the condition that he was in only called for one word which was brutal.
Her eyes carefully analysed the face of the butler. He was bleeding and the blood was dripping down from some wound that must have been delivered to his head.
She could not tell if any other body part was damaged but from what she could see he was clearly out of it will have his head hung in the front.
"Donna," Michelle called from behind her, his voice was clipped and to the point, "follow me out of here, please."
A slight frown came to her forehead.
First of all, why was Marco here and especially in that condition where he was almost on the verge of death?
Second, why was she being asked to leave when she had just gotten here?
They must be a reason for them to call her downstairs and the reason was not just limited to seeing Marco in this condition.
And, another thing to be noted was that it had not even been 10 minutes for her to be here yet she was already being taken out?
Michelle was already up the stairs halfway through when she finally started to move and follow him upstairs.
One thing that Evelyn had learned was only family matter and that was the only thing that she was supposed to look behind for.
Since Marco was not a family member she did not even give him so much of a glance to see how he was faring.
This time, buy the truth that the following Evelyn knew that they were going towards Salvatore’s office.
She had seen the coming and going of men inside the particular room and her husband seemed to disappear behind the door.
Michelle knocked on the door twice and opened it for.
The curt nod he closed the door behind her when she had entered leaving them alone.
Just as Michelle closed the door, Evelyn became hyper sensitive to what was happening.
There sat her husband behind the desk like the king he was.
Unapologetic of the power and proud of it.
"Come here," he beckoned her close with an old of his head and she found her feet moving on the command.
There was something so commanding in his voice that she could not stop herself and her feet in fact her body immediately moved to how he wanted them to.
How was it even after two years of complete separation and no contact, could her body move the exact way he wanted it to?
The moment she reached him that was on the side of his chair he stood up and gently pulled her to his chair making her sit on it by putting pressure on her shoulders.
"What are you doing?" Evelyn questioned, unsure where this was going.
After 7 days of at least no contact he has certainly called her into his office. And before that she had been taken to the basement where she had been shown the face of the beaten and battered Butler.
"Why am I being called to your office and why would I take you into the basement?"
"Because you asked for justice," he answered effortlessly, leaning over by her side and clicking a few buttons on the laptop. "I am now delivering it."
Her eyes moved to the laptop and she saw the windows pop in and out as we continued to work through it. So, had it been Marco?
Because Marco was the only one that was in the basement and appeared to have been through a tough interrogation of sorts.
She was one of the people that she doubted and perhaps was the easiest point to tackle. Maybe that was why it had found him in the basement and in that condition.
"Was it?" Evelyn asked in a rush to an before she explained further, "was Marco the one who pushed me down the stairs?"
Salvatore exhaled a huge breath above her but did not answer.
"Look," he pointed to the screen that showed 6 different angles of the house and she recognised them very well.
Salvatore pressed a button and it was like living through the movie of what happened.
First she exited the room that she was staying in and went downstairs. She could see everything from there.
Every angle got her getting out of the room and down the stairs safely before she moved into the kitchen.
Evelyn leaned forward in her seat in anticipation of what was going to happen next. The moment she got out of the kitchen the Paranoia she felt 2 years ago came back.
She saw on the screen as she turned back multiple times to check if someone was behind her and even in the cameras it was no one.
How was it possible?
There were six cameras yet none of them had got what she wanted to see.
Evelyn gulped with the moment finally came. She was on the top of the stairs in the moment she was about to step the last one—
She gasped.
The cameras, on six of them, went dark.
