Colonel Norrett and Major General Arngan didn’t use that chance to escape. They weren’t sure where the following exchange would happen, so moving was dangerous. Also, they couldn’t miss out on a battle between two evolved warriors. The opportunity was simply priceless for soldiers at their level.

However, the reality was quite grim. Colonel Norrett and Major General Arngan could see everything happening in the battle, but following and understanding it was challenging. If anything, most of what landed in their vision was utterly illogical.

Khan was too fast, too overbearing, and too powerful. He had merely delivered kicks and slashes, often failing to touch Miss Christen’s directly. Still, each of his attacks carried a destructive force that Miss Christen couldn’t oppose, leading to her body seemingly splitting and opening on its own.

Meanwhile, Miss Christen was even more monstrous. She didn’t only endure and respond to Khan’s attacks. She had also brushed off injuries that would kill most soldiers as if they were shallow cuts, going on the offensive while her body looked on the verge of falling apart.

Clearly, something else was at work there. Colonel Norrett and Major General Arngan understood that point very well. What looked like simple attacks carried ethereal but profound power, highlighting the reason behind the evolved warriors’ superiority.

As for that field, it seemed Khan had the upper hand.

Miss Christen remained near the tree, her vitality surging to heal her. Yet, her eyes soon fell on the hole in her waist. The bleeding had stopped, but the injury didn’t close. Some tissues had managed to regrow, but most of the wound remained intact.

Miss Christen tried to pour more power into her healing abilities but to no avail. Something inside the gaping wound prevented it from closing or replacing the damaged tissues, eventually forcing Miss Christen to give up on it for now.

Ordinary soldiers, or humans for that matter, wouldn’t be able to last long with such a big hole in their waist. However, Miss Christen ignored it and raised her gaze. It seemed fixing that deadly issue wasn’t a priority, which it wasn’t, at least for her.

Instead, something more worrying ended up occupying Miss Christen’s thoughts. Khan had fended off her debilitating ability, leaving her powerless against his counterattack, but his kick’s target could have been deadlier.

"Why did you hold back?" Miss Christen couldn’t help but ask.

The question shocked Colonel Norrett and Major General Arngan, but Khan remained indifferent, which was an answer on its own. After all, it was true. He had partially held back. Khan could have aimed for Miss Christen’s head or chest, but the attack wouldn’t have suited his needs.

"Didn’t I tell you?" Khan wondered. "I need your head intact for the box."

At once, Miss Christen experienced an emotion she hadn’t felt since her evolution. She was a powerful evolved warrior from a noble family wielding one of the universe’s most beautiful and pure elements. Still, her opponent had actually dared to underestimate her.

"They should have left you to rot in the Slums," Miss Christen insulted, "Like they did with your father."

"Yes," Khan agreed, ignoring the attempt to stir his anger. "They should have."

Miss Christen raised her arms, and bright white light shone from her palms. At the same time, Khan materialized above Miss Christen, delivering a descending kick.

A white palm met with the descending foot. Miss Christen absorbed the kick’s momentum while Khan pressed onward, sending all his destructive power forth.

Surprisingly, the exchange appeared evenly matched now. The ground around Miss Christen shattered, but her figure remained mostly intact. A few cuts opened on her forearm but stopped advancing before reaching her elbow.

Of course, Khan’s offensive didn’t end there, but Miss Christen was ready. Khan thrust the cursed knife downward, sending a scarlet piercing attack toward Miss Christen’s chest. However, Miss Christen used her other palm to intercept the blade, negating part of its momentum.

The cursed knife’s blunt tip stabbed the base of Miss Christen’s bright palm, digging into her wrist. Sharp energy devoured her limb’s insides, and destructive branches spread from it, threatening to break every surrounding tissue.

Nevertheless, a boundless, almost impenetrable vitality faced off with the cursed knife’s bloodlust, limiting the damage it could inflict. The event elated the weapon, intensifying its desire to extinguish all life, but its power was no match for Miss Christen’s.

Miss Christen grew stronger after partially blocking the attacks. Her left hand closed on Khan’s foot while her right one advanced, letting the cursed knife cut through it to reach for him with her fingers.

Condensed debilitating energy gathered on Miss Christen’s fingers while her hand healed. That was a stronger, more focused version of her previous counterattack, but Khan barely considered it.

Khan didn’t even watch the incoming fingers. His left arm was stretched downward, but his right one was free, so he waved it at the hand clinging to his foot.

Nothing appeared, but something severed Miss Christen’s fingers, freeing Khan’s foot. At that point, his figure disappeared, and Miss Christen suddenly turned, waving her glowing palms toward specific areas.

A similar exchange unfolded. Khan appeared behind Miss Christen, kicking and waving his cursed knife. Miss Christen partially blocked the offensive and tried to respond, but Khan easily avoided her traps and retained the initiative.

Also, each exchange left Miss Christen with a new set of injuries. She constantly healed, but something always remained on her, and that gradual accumulation quickly became too much for her.

Miss Christen blocked Khan’s kick once again, but her right arm gave in when it met the cursed knife. Her whole forearm crumbled into a rain of gory chunks when the weapon stabbed it, and its destructive, sharp force threatened to expand toward the rest of her limb.

Yet, Miss Christen’s shoulder suddenly lit up, releasing enough light to partially blind Khan. The vitality in that spot exceeded what her flesh could bear, inflating and exploding into a bloody spectacle.

The explosion stopped the sharp energy’s advance, spreading Miss Christen’s vitality everywhere. The area around her new stump became a dense domain of life, enhancing her regenerative power beyond reason.

Bones, muscles, nerves, and skin grew at an unfathomable rate right before Khan’s eyes. Miss Christen’s shoulder and part of her arm reappeared in less than a second, and she twisted her body to thrust that partial limb at him.

However, that sudden, far denser burst of vitality overloaded the cursed knife. Its bloodlust skyrocketed, making it disregard its primitive sense of self-preservation. The weapon sent all its power to the sparks around its edges, forsaking its structural integrity to explode into a flare of sharp energy.
