Chaos and Order - A Multiverse Fanfic-Chapter 981: Professor Trelawney
Black had absolutely no idea about the conversation that had taken place between The Banished One and the Shaper of the Universe, Ben Tennyson, at Nowhere.
In the Hunter x Hunter Bubble, after meeting with Princess Serenity, Black had already passed out before Alan Stormborn had taken the Storm Pirates to meet Ben and finally deal with the Half-Deep One with their help.
It was then that Ben had asked why Alan had created Twin-Saber Style, a Legacy Ability which his descendants could automatically obtain if they resurrected into the Primordial Tower, when he himself was a spear wielder.
In reply, Alan had only one sentence — Professor Trelawney had divined it so.
If Kai had known that one sentence, then he wouldn't have downplayed Timeline's Warning at all. He would have walked into the Divination Classroom in the same way as he had walked into the Cursed Vault of Fear, prepared for a fight to the death.
No one knew how cruel prophecies could become more than Kai.
It was Cersei's Act — Blood Prophecy — that had singlehandedly paved the way for him to best all Storyline Characters in the Fate timeline to win the Great Holy Grail War.
Even if he didn't fear prophecies themselves, he would still have put Ad Infinitum on the highest alert, as Lucky Intuitions were like reflexes and remained largely uncontrollable.
Still, Black didn't completely disregard Timeline's Warning as he climbed the ladder leading to the Divination Room.
If She had personally arrived to warn him, then it surely meant that the threat was real.
It was just — Black couldn't comprehend what he could do about it.
If Trelawney drew her magical powers related to prophecies directly from the Bubble, then redirecting her attention using Ad Infinitum Echoes could result in severe backlash, a Lucky Intuition told him. There were even chances of him losing a few percentage points of Proficiency. And that was saying something, given that Ad Infinitum was an Advanced Proficiency standing at eighty-five percent.
So, as Black finally entered the room, the only thing he could do was to just… make his peace with it.
Let the event unfold itself. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Let Trelawney divine something if she wished to.
Let the wheel of fate turn if it couldn't be controlled.
It's not like I have a complex of dictating all and everything that happens around me, Black smirked, remembering his father's Sorting Hat's words. … Not anymore, at least.
Draco, Harry, Ron, and Black emerged into the strangest classroom.
"Was the trapdoor a portal to your home, Ron?" Draco asked, gaping at the attic-old-fashioned tea shop-like classroom.
Ron was too stunned to punch him.
At least twenty small, circular tables were crammed inside it, all surrounded by armchairs and little poufs, and everything was lit with a dim, crimson light.
The curtains at the windows were closed, and the many lamps were draped with dark red scarves. It was stiflingly warm, and the fire that was burning under the crowded mantelpiece was giving off a heavy, sickly sort of perfume as it heated a large copper kettle.
The shelves running around the circular walls were crammed with dusty-looking feathers, stubs of candles, many packs of tattered playing cards, countless silvery crystal balls, and a huge array of teacups.
Students who had chosen Divination as an elective were already seated inside, all blankly looking at the four boys.
Hermione and Daphne were also among them, but neither of the two looked particularly enthusiastic about the class itself.
"Where's she?" Harry whispered.
"Welcome," a voice said, coming out of the shadows. "How nice to see you in the physical world at last."
A large, glittering insect.
That was the first impression of Professor Trelawney as she moved into the firelight, drowning in beads, bangles, and rings, a heavy shawl resting on her drooping shoulders.
"Four…" Trelawney said, her lips twitching. "That's an unlucky number… Sit."
The boys shared a puzzled glance among themselves. Soon, just as they went to sit, they learned why the Professor had said so.
Only one round table remained unoccupied, with room for three to sit around it.
The fourth one, unfortunately, would have to sit with the two Slytherin girls.
A great scuffle happened between Draco, Harry, Ron, and Black as they rushed toward the empty table, as if they were running for their lives.
Ron and Draco elbowed Black aside, taking two seats for themselves.
"Traitors!" Black hissed under his breath and begrudgingly sat down next to Hermione and Daphne.
"Welcome to Divination," Professor Trelawney said, sitting in a winged armchair in front of the fire. "My name is Professor Trelawney. You may not have seen me before. I find that descending too often into the main school clouds my Inner Eye."
The students exchanged dumbfounded looks at the extraordinary announcement.
"Divination is the most difficult of all magical arts," Trelawney continued. "I must warn you that if you do not have the Sight, there is very little I will be able to teach you. Books can take you only so far in this field…"
Black slowly turned his face and smirked at a horrified Hermione.
"Many witches and wizards, talented though they are in the area of loud bangs and smells and sudden disappearings, are yet unable to penetrate the veiled mysteries of the future," Professor Trelawney went on, her enormous, gleaming eyes moving from face to nervous face. "It is a Gift granted to few. You, boy—"
A silence fell over the students as Trelawney suddenly called out to someone.
"Stop ogling me and answer her!" Hermione hissed, Daphne hiding a chuckle with her hand on her mouth next to her.
Black's entire face blanked.
It was not because of Hermione's words or Daphne's laugh, though.
Every word said by every Storyline Character in the original Harry Potter timeline was stored meticulously in the Ad Infinitum. It was less about the divergences and more about Kai's nature as a Faceless.
So, when Black heard Trelawney's 'You boy—', he knew exactly that she had called out Neville Longbottom to ask about his grandmother.
Or… that's what he'd thought.
Black slowly turned around his blank face and found Trelawney's large, bulbous eyes behind the glasses were fixed on him.
"… Yes?" Black asked.
"Do not mourn the loss of your mother," Professor Trelawney said. "She will continue to live on in your heart."
