As the saying goes, the person who knows you the best is not necessarily your friend; perhaps, it’s your enemy.

To help Jillian Carter, Joseph Shaw investigated Jane Sampson and Julie Sampton, so he knew in his heart that Jane Sampson’s character wouldn’t allow her to do such sinister things.

Upon hearing Joseph Shaw outright dismiss the idea that Jane Sampson was acting out a self-harming strategy, Jillian Carter couldn’t help but give Joseph Shaw a deep look.

She questioned, "Why do you trust her so much? Is she really that good in your eyes?"

"This has nothing to do with how I view her," explained Joseph Shaw, shaking his head. "A person’s character is fixed; she won’t act beyond her nature, so such a self-harming strategy is something Jane Sampson wouldn’t do."

Not wanting Jillian Carter to dwell further on whether Jane was good or not, Joseph Shaw quickly continued, "If this wasn’t done by you, nor by Jane Sampson, then this matter still comes back to that paparazzo. Since your Brother said he also heard it, then it’s unlikely to be fake."

"The only explanation is," Joseph Shaw said, "you rejected the one million he offered, possibly offending him, and then he sold the photos to others. The next morning, he was arrested, so he deliberately dragged you into the water." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

That was Joseph Shaw’s analysis, and the paparazzo Jillian Carter found wasn’t a good person.

"Tomorrow, I’ll personally take a trip to meet this paparazzo." Considering the situation, Joseph Shaw decided to see the paparazzo himself, hoping money could resolve this issue.

At the Carter Family, Jane Sampson and Rock Bell, along with others, only left after having dinner there. They took the express train, personally escorted by the Carter Family’s driver to the high-speed train station.

After sending off Jane Sampson, James Carter, and others, Father and Mother Carter returned to the house.

The house, which was lively with laughter earlier, instantly fell silent once the children left.

"Sit down; there are some things your dad and I want to talk to you about," Granny Carter beckoned to the two, calling them over.

Father Carter nodded, and then he and his wife sat opposite the two seniors, guessing that the topic would be related to Jillian Carter.

"You should be aware of what Jillian has become nowadays; earlier, she went to the film crew to find James and Jane for a meal. You said Jillian had become sensible and thought that after making a silly mistake, circling back from the ghost gate, her brain had cleared, she was sober; but in fact, that’s not the case."

Granny Carter said, "No matter if the photo thing was done by her or not, it’s indisputable that she found the paparazzo. Why did she have a paparazzo watching Jane Sampson? Because she still intends to deal with Jane. I won’t allow anyone to bully my granddaughter that way! Not even if it’s Jillian Carter!"

"What does mom mean?" asked Father Carter softly.

Indeed, he couldn’t find a reason to defend Jillian, to say she’s already obedient and learned well.

Now it seems, it’s all just superficial appearances.

"For now, we can’t publicly disclose Jane and our family’s relationship, but we can publicize Jillian and our family’s adoption relationship, letting people know Jillian is only our foster daughter, not our biological daughter. I won’t let Jillian use the Carter Family’s connections and relationships to do things that harm our Carter Family children any longer."
