CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 17 - 25: Who Told You
James Black pulled the thin blanket from under Jane Sampson and placed it on her chest. Then he turned the airflow of the air conditioner towards the wall, as she always liked to have the cold wind blowing directly on her as if she had no idea it was bad for her body—just like how she secretly ate all sorts of junk food, seemingly forgetting that her health hadn’t been good since she was a child.
When Jane slept, she was very quiet, curling up into a small bundle on one side of the bed, leaving a wide space on her right for James Black.
Jane’s sleeping position wholly epitomized a person lacking a deep sense of security. At night, she always held herself, assuming a protective and self-enclosed posture.
A bed, in her mind, was divided into two parts—one belonged to her husband, James Black, and the other was her personal space.
It was as if the distinction was clear-cut; even in sleep, she would never cross the line she had drawn in her heart.
She wouldn’t allow James Black to come too close to her, let alone hold or wrap his arms around her to sleep. Even after the most intimate act between husband and wife, she would take a bath, come out of the bathroom and definitely revert to her side of the bed.
James Black had always known that Jane Sampson was a person who lacked a sense of security and was closed off. Thus, her previously displayed temperament—gentle not to mention almost non-existent—didn’t strike him as contradictory at all.
At that moment, looking at Jane Sampson, James Black couldn’t help but curl the corner of his mouth into a smile. Truly, she was like a sly woman.
That night, Jane Sampson had slept exceptionally well, her mood brightening with joy, so when she woke up, she wasn’t the least bit upset about having her snacks confiscated last night.
Opening her eyes and turning her head to see no one by her side, Jane exclaimed joyfully, "Perfect wake-up scenario!"
Delighted, she bounced several times on the bed before getting barefoot to fetch her mobile phone from her purse, and she immediately sent a text message to Nina Rice, telling her she would visit her at her company later.
After sending the text message, Jane Sampson took a dress from inside the wardrobe and put it on, a piece of clothing she had always disliked. She still disapproved of it now, but that was okay, today she would replace all these clothes she didn’t like!
In the future, she was going to be somebody impressive; how could she still wear clothes that made her look like an old aunt?
After changing and applying her makeup, Jane Sampson left the bedroom humming a song, her mood utterly buoyant. But this good mood lasted only until she stepped into the living room.
When she saw the person who should have left for the team base early in the morning sitting beside the dining table, leisurely enjoying his breakfast, she felt as if she had been struck by a thunderbolt.
"James Black, you... didn’t you return to the team?" Jane frantically thought this was the kind of scene you’d only encounter if you got up the wrong way, right? Could she request to go back to bed and wake up once more, together? Given another chance, she would definitely get up in the standard position!
"Who told you I went back to the team base?" James Black sat there taking a bite of a steamed bun. He had missed none of the sounds of Jane giggling and exclaiming from inside the bedroom with the door open.
Truth be told, hearing those sounds early in the morning was rather appetizing.
Who told her? Of course, history did! Without exception, every time James Black came home, he would stay for one night and be gone by early the next morning. So why was today an exception?
