Chapter 162: Chapter 170: Who Sent It

"Brother, look, sister-in-law brought me some delicious food again!" Peter Gingery opened the food box, and indeed, it contained the egg whites from tea eggs, his favorite.

"Did she bring it to the guard team for you?" James Black pinched the cigarette in his hand and was about to take out his mobile phone to call Jane Sampson when he heard Peter Gingery reply that she hadn’t.

"Sister-in-law went back to the Black Residence in the afternoon and even had dinner with Old Master Black in the evening. It was Old Master Black who arranged for someone to send it here," said Peter Gingery. "It seems that sister-in-law has been visiting the Black Residence quite frequently recently."

James Black put the mobile phone back in its place and couldn’t help but snort inwardly.

She has really learned some tricks, daring to go back to the Black Residence again within one afternoon and even managing to get Old Sir to send stuff to the guard team on her behalf.

It looks like she’s gotten on Old Sir’s good side?

"Chief, there’s something for you."

Outside the door, James Black’s communications soldier knocked on the door and, after getting James Black’s permission, entered and placed a tightly wrapped object in a bag on his tabletop.

"Who sent it?" James Black asked.

"It was sent by someone arranged by Old Master Black."

After responding, the soldier curiously glanced at the things on the table but, knowing his place, didn’t ask further and left.

Peter Gingery let out a curious sound, then stood by, stuffing egg whites into his mouth while eagerly waiting for James Black to unpack the item. When James Black finally peeled away layer upon layer of packaging to reveal an egg in the palm of his hand, Peter Gingery nearly choked on the egg white in his mouth.

"Why did Old Sir specially send you an egg?" Peter Gingery placed the food box he’d been holding next to him and, walking over eager to snatch the egg from James Black’s hand, found himself halting abruptly and awkwardly withdrawing at a stern glance from James Black. He obediently held his food box and ate his own food.

That was something James Black wanted to know as well.

It seemed as if he could faintly smell a very light, barely there, familiar fragrance. James Black brought the tea egg closer to his nose and carefully sniffed it.

His mobile phone on the tabletop suddenly rang, displaying a call from Old Master Black. James Black answered.

"Did you receive the egg? It was brought to me by that lass, Jane, in the evening," Old Master Black said with a wily chuckle. "Smell the egg, does it have a particularly familiar scent?"

James Black’s eyes flickered; indeed, it smelled of pekoe.

With that thought, a bad premonition rose in his heart.

As expected, he heard Old Master Black laugh heartily, "Jane is such a filial child. Knowing I like that tea but can’t drink it, she specially prepared these tea eggs with it and brought them to me. Such a considerate child." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

In fact, the thought was like dripping blood in Old Master Black’s heart.

But even in his distress, he felt that James Black needed to share in the heartache as well—it wouldn’t be fair to let him, an old man, bear it alone.

"Jane Sampson," James Black nearly growled Jane Sampson’s name through gritted teeth.

Without listening to Old Sir’s schadenfreude laughter any longer, James Black hung up the phone.

Over there, Peter Gingery, seeing James Black had ended the call, looked up from his mobile phone and casually asked, "Brother, did you scold Jane Sampson?"

Peter Gingery had a hundred rebukes for James Black in his heart but didn’t have the courage to utter a single one.

In his heart, Jane Sampson, who managed to marry James Black, was simply the most remarkable person in the world. So if James Black was harsh to Jane, she was indeed in quite a miserable situation.
