CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 1534 - 1542: Don’t Touch It At All
"Alright then! I’ll need to give some serious thought to what we should eat for dinner tonight! Surely, Mr. Forest wouldn’t dare suggest anything that costs less than ten thousand per person." Quincy Forest said with visible delight. "Oh yeah, Jane, what do you really crave but don’t usually get to eat?"
Jane Sampson nodded enthusiastically, like a woodpecker.
"What?" Quincy asked.
Jane opened her mouth and said, "Barbecue skewers."
Quincy nearly threw the hairpin in her hand right at Jane’s face, which was as beautiful as a flower.
"Is that all you’ve got? I thought at the very least you’d say something Michelin-star-worthy, but you just give me two words?" Quincy complained with mock exasperation. "Such low ambition!"
"But you asked me what I crave yet don’t usually get to eat, and that’s barbecue skewers!" Jane countered matter-of-factly. "James doesn’t let me eat even a bite more than I should. At the gathering the other day, I had some, and it left me wanting more so badly it’s driving me nuts."
"You’re taking Chinese medicine recently, right? James has a point in keeping you in check. Listen to him, alright?" Quincy gave poor Jane a pitying look and reached out to pat her head comfortingly. "It’s not like your body is cooperating anyway. If you can’t eat it, don’t even touch it."
As she spoke, Quincy grabbed a hairband and tied up Jane’s hair, which had been casually draped over her shoulder.
In the process, she noticed several red marks on Jane’s neck. Curious, Quincy reached out to touch them and asked, "What’s going on with the weather in your house? Do you still have mosquitoes around? Look at your neck—completely bitten up!"
"Where?" Jane craned her neck toward the mirror, her gaze falling on the red marks Quincy had pointed out.
The next second, her playful face turned bright red.
Flustered, Jane hurriedly flipped up her shirt collar, stammering and unable to say even a single word for what felt like half a day.
Quincy took one look at Jane’s reaction and immediately figured out what was going on.
She too had been caught off guard and blurted out a few unnecessary questions earlier.
"Seems this mosquito is especially fierce—could it be the James Black mosquito, eh?" Quincy said with a sly little grin, lowering her voice and whispering mischievously into Jane’s ear. "Looks like you two really had an intense battle last night. Come on, spill—was it seven rounds in one night, or one round that lasted all night?"
Jane, furious and utterly embarrassed, poked Quincy in the waist, glaring at her with mock menace as she spat out two words: "Shut up."
This only made Quincy burst into laughter. She reached out to tap Jane’s puffed-up cheeks and teased further, "Look at you, all adorably fierce—seriously, I’d love to snap a pic of you right now to show your fans how cute their ’Monkey King’ looks when she’s mad."
Just as Quincy was about to say more, Kane Forest, who had been sitting on the sofa, suddenly stood up.
"I’ll wait for you outside," he said abruptly.
After making his statement, Kane quickly opened the door and dashed out.
Jane looked utterly baffled and raised her head to ask Quincy, "Your brother didn’t overhear what you just said, did he?"
"Probably... maybe..." Quincy hesitated, realizing she had been so caught up in teasing that she’d completely forgotten Kane was still in the room.
"Do you think your brother heard it, got embarrassed, and stormed off in a fit of youthful innocence?" Jane wondered aloud, shooting a curious look at Quincy. "I’ve never seen him date anyone. Maybe he really is an innocent old boy."
"Seriously though, why call him ’old boy’? Can’t you just say boy?" Jane couldn’t help but burst into laughter after saying this.
"Because he’s getting up there in age." Quincy replied without missing a beat, as if it was the most natural answer in the world. Yet, when it came to her cousin’s private matters, Quincy only bantered lightly; she wasn’t genuinely nosy.
