CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 145 - 153: What Sound Is That?
On the bathroom shelf, there were quite a few shower gels and facial cleansers among the men’s exclusive skincare products that he had just opened. The bathroom even still carried the scent of James Black’s habitually used aftershave.
To tell the truth, this scent felt almost otherworldly to Jane Sampson.
Before, James Black hardly ever came home, and there were no such items in the house. His visits were brief; he’d stay for a night, at most two, so he hardly needed them.
His towel was still dripping on the bathroom shelf. Jane’s gaze swept across the shelf, and out of sheer boredom, she picked up his bottle of aftershave intending to take a sniff.
Perhaps it was a bit perverse, but she found the scent particularly appealing.
"It smells much better than most men’s perfumes," Jane commented, then shook the bottle in her hand.
Perhaps, Jane herself hadn’t realized the bottle was slippery from the water, so when she shook it, she lost her grip, and the bottle fell from her hand, crashing to the ground beside her foot with a loud clang.
Jane was dumbfounded. The aftershave bottle was made of glass, and now it lay shattered in pieces.
This is bad!
Jane stuck out her tongue, thinking to herself, I upset James before his bath, and now, after he took his bath, I broke his stuff. He must be truly at his wit’s end because of me, right?
There had been no sound of water from the bathroom, so the bedroom was very quiet, not a single noise to be heard. Thus, when the sound of something breaking came from the bathroom, it seemed particularly jarring and grating.
"Jane Sampson."
James Black stood at the bathroom doorway and knocked, but when there was no reply from Jane inside, he turned the door lock, not expecting it to be unlocked, and let himself in. Upon opening the door, the first thing he noticed was the person who had been in the bathroom for several minutes without even taking off her clothes, so he walked inside.
"What was that noise just now?"
Right after asking, James Black immediately had his answer; he smelled the scent of his aftershave and took note of what was at Jane’s feet. Standing there, he watched Jane for a moment, observing the seemingly dazed and confused woman slowly raise her head to look at him, extend her finger, and vaguely point toward the debris by her foot. Then she spread her hands and shrugged her shoulders.
"Is that how much you don’t want me to come back?" James Black’s eyebrows furrowed as he asked sternly.
"What?" Jane was genuinely puzzled as to why James Black would suddenly ask such a question. Wasn’t it obvious? Wasn’t it the point she had made each time she saw him recently, expressing it once or twice?
"You don’t want me to come back, so you protest by breaking my stuff?" James Black wasn’t sure if he would throw this woman out of the home doorway if she nodded in agreement, in the heat of his anger.
Fortunately, Jane quickly shook her head, vehemently denying it.
"No! I swear I have no such thought," Jane said, almost raising both hands to swear to heaven, "I just thought your aftershave smelled really nice, so I picked it up to smell it, but my hand slipped, and it fell. Honestly, I was frightened myself when it hit the ground."
Jane’s earnest explanation made James Black’s expression much kinder. He looked at the broken glass on the ground, picked Jane up in a princess hold, and then said, "Kick off the slippers on your feet, shake your feet, and see if there are any fragments on your instep."
