Chapter 141: Chapter 149: I’m Here to Pick You Up

When she smiled, her eyes sparkled bright, at this time, she especially resembled a little fox.

Because of this smile, James Black’s voice involuntarily softened a lot, "Aren’t you very good at blacklisting people? For someone you don’t want to deal with, why not put them on the blacklist?"

Hearing James Black’s words, Jane Sampton’s first reaction was, blacklist? Could this guy be planning to settle scores after the fact?

The first time she blacklisted him was deliberate, the second time, accidental.

If he were to calculate everything, wouldn’t he be too petty?

Seeing that Jane Sampton did not speak, James Black did not inquire further, naturally unaware of what Jane Sampton was muttering about him under her breath.

However, Jane Sampton’s mobile phone, which had been silent for only a few seconds, rang again—this time from Mother Sampton.

James Black noticed Jane Sampton’s expression, which seemed to say, I just knew it would be like this; he immediately understood why Julie Sampton had not yet been blacklisted on Jane Sampton’s mobile phone. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Because of Mother Sampton.

"Shall I answer it?" James Black asked.

Jane Sampton nodded repeatedly, she couldn’t wait for him to do so.

She could reprimand Julie Sampton harshly and without any disguise mock and ridicule her, but Mother was not Julie, what she dared to do to her sister, she didn’t dare to do to her mother.

James Black took Jane Sampton’s mobile phone and slid to answer the call. He hadn’t spoken yet when he heard what sounded like questioning and accusatory words coming from Mother Sampton.

"Jane, why did you just hang up on your sister? She had something to discuss with you. Isn’t hanging up on someone a bit impolite? You’re all family, she’s the sister, you’re the older one, and she’s been through a lot when she was younger. So, Jane, could you please be a little more considerate to her? Hanging up on her, do you know how much it upset her? She wants to reconcile with you."

James Black glanced at Jane Sampton across from him, who was smiling as she quietly muttered words nearly identical to Mother Sampton’s. He pointed at Jane’s barely touched meal; after seeing Jane pout at him, she lowered her head to eat. Only then did he return his focus to the phone conversation.

When he spoke, there was not even a salutation.

"Didn’t Julie Sampton tell you that the one who hung up on her was me?" James Black asked in return, his voice as usual chillingly aloof to the point of being almost devoid of warmth.

Mother Sampton was jolted by his tone; it took her a few seconds to stammer out, "Is this James Black?"

"Yes," said James Black, "I have already told Julie Sampton if she has business with Jane, then she should come over to our home and talk face to face. I hope you all remember, Jane is now James Black’s wife, Mrs. Black. She is no longer just the Sampton Family’s daughter. None of you from the Sampton Family have any right to direct her to do anything. Understood?"

In James Black’s dictionary, the word ’wife’ implied ownership; his wife was his alone. So, in effect, Jane Sampton was wholly his.

He was responsible for Jane Sampton’s safety as well as for her living needs.

That was his duty as a husband.

And as the owner of this right, he naturally would not allow anyone to overstep and do as they please.

"I only hoped for harmony between the sisters; I haven’t directed her to do anything..." Mother Sampton’s face had turned somewhat pale. Compared to the discomfort she felt during the daytime upon hearing what her husband had said, it was this emotionless threat from James Black that made her feel more embarrassed, even having a hint of fear towards the Black Family, towards James Black himself.
