Celestial Human Diagram-Chapter 152 - 134: Recapture (2)
Ren Xiaotian reached the same conclusion. He said immediately, "Get in my car. We’ll give chase."
Chen Chuan nodded. Wei Chang’an’s three team members were standing guard here, and the spike strips were still in place. Even if someone broke out, they wouldn’t get far in the wilderness.
So he got right into Ren Xiaotian’s car. Once it started, they sped off, looping around to the front.
Mi Tai and You’an were desperately running forward, using the dim, pre-dawn light as cover. They were lucky not to be shot again. After sprinting for several hundred meters, they faintly saw a few cars parked up ahead and were Involuntarily overjoyed.
Every bandit in the wilderness knew a thing or two about hot-wiring cars. As long as they could reach them, they could find a way to get one started.
The two people left here were from Wei Chang’an’s team. Although they were only responsible for technical support, anyone brought out into the wilderness was bound to have combat skills.
When they saw the figures running toward them, they noted there were only two. They remained calm and held their position. Once the pair entered an effective firing range, they raised their guns and shot. You’an was hit in the chest and collapsed instantly. Mi Tai was startled, but there was no time to think. He immediately started moving, drawing his gun to return fire.
His nickname was Desolate Eagle, a name he earned for his exceptionally sharp eyes. Even while on the move, his bullets landed close to the two men, forcing them to quickly duck for cover.
During the exchange of fire, he was hit as well. But he was wearing Protective Clothing, so it wasn’t a serious injury. Just then, however, the sound of an approaching vehicle grew louder and louder from behind him, and he started to panic.
He laid down suppressing fire on the two men in front of him as he charged forward and ducked behind one of the cars. He took out a small box he was carrying, pulled out the Oak Leaf inside, and held it high for everyone to see.
"You’re here for this, aren’t you? If you don’t let me go, I’ll destroy it right now! Don’t try to trick me! If you do, I’ll destroy this thing first!"
He made a motion with both hands as if he were about to rip it apart. He wasn’t sure if they were really here for the leaf; it was just a gamble. But when he saw that the two men had indeed stopped firing, his suspicion was confirmed.
Just then, the approaching car stopped in the distance. Chen Chuan got out, knife in hand, and slowly walked forward. He stopped at a moderate distance and said, "You can’t escape."
Mi Tai held the leaf out in front of him, his face contorted in a snarl. "I’d rather destroy this thing than leave it for you."
Chen Chuan said calmly, "Tell me what you want."
Mi Tai relaxed slightly and said viciously, "Just give me a car and let me go. I’ll leave this thing wherever you want, or with whomever you want. After that, we’ll go our separate ways. I won’t ask who you are, and you won’t come looking for me."
Chen Chuan’s voice remained calm. "You’re not a local from Maka, are you? And you probably haven’t handled this leaf much before. There’s something you might not know. This leaf is a gift from the Maka People to Dashun. Not only is it evergreen and incorruptible, but it’s also incredibly tough. Ordinary methods can’t destroy it."
Mi Tai was Involuntarily startled. His gaze shifted to the leaf. At that moment, with a BANG, his forehead exploded, and he pitched forward onto the ground.
Behind him, Ren Xiaotian spun the revolver in his hand, slid it smoothly back into its holster at his waist, and nodded at Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan nodded back and walked forward. But just as he was passing You’an’s prone body, the man suddenly sprang up, apparently trying to charge and take him hostage. A flash of a blade, and You’an’s head went flying.
Chen Chuan’s stride didn’t even falter. He just flicked his blade clean. Behind him, the headless corpse fell to the ground with a THUD. Without a backward glance, he walked right up to the spot where the Oak Leaf had fluttered down.
What he’d told Mi Tai just now wasn’t a complete lie. The Foreign Affairs Bureau had informed him that the object was extremely resilient and couldn’t be destroyed by ordinary means. Even if it was slightly damaged, it would grow back on its own. Therefore, there was no need to be overly cautious when retrieving it.
He bent down and picked it up.
The moment he touched it, he felt his Second Self waver slightly. But it was only for an instant before it returned to normal.
He held it in his hand, examining it for a moment, then found the box and placed it back inside.
Now that he had found it, all he had to do was bring it back to complete the commission. However, there was still one last group of bandits in the camp. Nearly all of them were on the wanted list. Since he was already here, he might as well clean them all up.
When he drove back, the firefight in the camp was still ongoing. The bandits grew pessimistic as the flanking attack they were expecting never came. Even so, they didn’t stop resisting.
In wilderness gang fights, aside from the occasional escapee, neither side would leave survivors. They wouldn’t believe the other side even if they offered mercy, so these hardened bandits would almost always fight to the death.
By now, the sky was gradually brightening. After getting out of the car, Chen Chuan leaped a few times, clearing the trench and reaching the edge of the camp. The footing here was narrow, but he walked across it as if on level ground.
As he neared the entrance, he could sense a person’s presence behind a barricade. A bandit was undoubtedly guarding the gate. Holding his knife in a reverse grip, he twisted at the waist and thrust. The blade pierced straight through the barrier, impaling the man’s head on the other side. He then ducked and rushed forward.
The instant he moved, several bullet holes THUDDED into the barricade behind him. With a smooth motion, he withdrew his knife, pivoted to the entrance, and dug his feet in to stop his momentum. His eyes met the terrified gazes of two bandits. As he moved forward, he executed an upward slash and a downward chop. In an instant, both men were beheaded.
He strode into the camp and immediately saw three men remaining, each standing in a different position. They didn’t seem to have noticed the commotion behind them. He drew his Martial Halberd and fired several shots in quick succession, instantly downing two of them from behind.
He then turned to the last man. This one stood nearly two heads taller than him, wearing a steel helmet from who-knows-where and a metal face mask. His body was bulky, wrapped in pieces of armor. Upon seeing Chen Chuan, he let out a furious roar, leaped down from above, and charged at him.
The man’s frame was so massive that his charge was thunderous, seeming to make the very ground shake. Chen Chuan, however, simply stood there, knife in one hand, watching him calmly.
But the giant had only made it halfway when, with a muffled gunshot, it was as if he’d been struck hard on the back of the head. His helmet flew off, the top half of his skull exploded, and after stumbling a few more steps forward, his heavy, unsupported body collapsed powerlessly to the ground.
Chen Chuan looked over and saw the sniper with the surname Ding in the distant watchtower raise his rifle’s muzzle and give him a thumbs-up. Chen Chuan nodded back. Then, looking at the others who were gradually approaching, he raised his voice and said, "Everyone, come down and clear the camp. Let’s try to be out of here before noon." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
