Chapter 304: Chapter 287: Earthquake and Waiting in the Car_2

Zachary was still in good spirits at this time; after all, the incident from the morning didn’t faze him much. If it weren’t for his concern that his parents might worry, Zachary would have suggested that they stay inside the Black Car.

Even if the Black Car were completely engulfed in mud, there wouldn’t be a lack of oxygen inside, and the vehicle could ensure the safety of the passengers. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

When the special forces team member who was acting as a sentry on the car roof saw Zachary sit on top of the Black Car, he thought Zachary had come to take over his shift, and so he left the car roof immediately.

When Troy found out about this and came over, Zachary waved his hand, "I’m feeling alert now; I’ll take over watch on the car roof for a while. I’ll let you know when I have to leave."

Hearing Zachary say this, Troy hurried off. Despite the small size of the camp and most of the survivors beginning to take a nap at noon, Troy still had a pile of messy trivial matters to deal with.

Small camp, small troubles: the camp now was what you could call a flat management system, where the leaders really got involved personally when there was a task at hand.

The stationed troops’ camp was quite a distance from where Zachary and the others were. After lunch, the faint sounds of gunfire and explosions that could be once heard had disappeared.

Because the distance was too great, Zachary’s Divine Sense couldn’t extend that far, so he didn’t know whether the trouble there had been successfully resolved or if Robinson William and the Inner Breath Realm Martial Artists had all been caught up in the problems on that side.

There was no set time for this noon’s rest; the elderly group’s intent was to let everyone sleep until they naturally woke up, even if it meant sleeping straight through the night or until the next day’s early morning. After all, today’s earthquake was the most dangerous encounter they had had since the disaster struck.

Just as the elderly group had guessed, once the survivors’ tense spirits relaxed, their bodies and minds naturally entered a state of hibernation.

Even as it turned dark, most of the survivors had not yet woken up. Seeing this, the members of the elderly group did not plan to wake them but let them have a good sleep instead.

Although there were no collapsed factory buildings left in the camp, making them all dangerous buildings, they would still have a place to rest at night; they could manage to spend the night inside the vehicles.

As for whether other survivors would catch a chill or fall ill from sleeping on the ground outside, compared to the hassle of waking them up to find suitable living places, this minor issue wasn’t really something to worry too much about.

As the night deepened, Robinson William and the Inner Breath Realm special forces team members who had gone out to help had not returned. Apart from the family members of those departed special forces members who were still worried about their safety, others seemed to have forgotten about their departure.

Zachary remained seated on top of the vehicle without leaving. Even though Troy came over several times attempting to find someone to relieve Zachary, he did not agree and stayed seated on the car roof, gazing in the direction where the smoke from the daytime fireworks had appeared.

When dawn quietly broke, many surviving camp members were awakened by the warm sunlight. After sleeping through the night, they were hungry but spirited.

Perhaps because of the night’s rest, most of the camp’s survivors woke up early today. Although they had a good meal yesterday, this morning’s breakfast was the same old plain grain biscuit they were used to.

The ingredients in these grain biscuits were processed into a very fine powder and made into a mush. Though it wasn’t choking, the taste was indeed mediocre when eaten.

However, this food was like the hardtacks of the past; while not very tasty, after getting used to it, no one would say they couldn’t stomach it. Moreover, after such a long sleep yesterday and skipping dinner, their bodies constantly signaled hunger.

So, even though it was the same old stir-fried mush, most people felt it tasted sweeter than before, perhaps not as good as the meal at noon the day before, but still quite delicious.

After Mr. Thompson and Master Ye left the car, Robinson William’s wife continued chatting inside the car with Mrs. Thompson while watching the child. Zachary then had Troy find a special forces team member to switch shifts with him before he entered the car to instruct Mrs. Thompson and Robinson William’s wife not to leave the car in the event of any issues.

The car’s shell was extremely sturdy; even a Giant Scorpion wouldn’t be able to breach the car’s exterior in a short time. So in case of danger, even an earthquake, it would be best to hide inside the car, rather than go out.

Upon hearing Zachary’s instructions, Mrs. Thompson immediately sensed something was amiss and inquired worriedly, "Son, what happened?"

Responding to his mother’s query, Zachary did not withhold any information and directly told her, "I plan to go look around the area after today’s earthquake is over to scout the surroundings."

Hearing Zachary’s words, Mrs. Thompson replied, "Why don’t you take the car then? If you’re worried I might be an impediment to you on the car, I can get off and wait outside."

Hearing what Mrs. Thompson said, Robinson William’s wife immediately understood and said, "Don’t worry about Mrs. Thompson’s safety; I will stay with her and the child all the time."

Hearing the two of them express their thoughts, Zachary felt somewhat helpless. Although he knew Mrs. Thompson was concerned for him and that Robinson William’s wife was very sensible,

To Zachary, leaving the Black Car behind was more useful than driving it away.
