Cave Refuge-Chapter 290 - 282: Migration
After listening to Ye Liuyun’s explanation, Robinson William essentially understood her meaning. Put simply, Saxon County also had Bugs Clan members, but these bug-like creatures were unlike those near Pengcheng in species.
The Bugs Clan there resembled enlarged scorpions, with exoskeletons so hard that regular automatic rifles could hardly penetrate them. To avoid wasting bullets, it was best to arrange for Inner Breath Realm Martial Artists to attack the connection points of the bugs’ shells with melee weapons.
At present, due to nutritional supplements, the number of survivors who became Martial Artists was not low. However, to reach the Inner Breath Realm, relying solely on medication was insufficient; they must undergo lengthy cultivation.
That being said, even though the number of Martial Artists in Pengcheng had significantly increased, the number of those in the Inner Breath Realm remained relatively unchanged.
Most of the survivors who became Martial Artists by using medications were actually slackers, so there weren’t many who truly practiced diligently.
In Pengcheng, aside from the unaffiliated individuals, those with a substantial number of Inner Breath Realm Martial Artists were only the military and the special forces units.
Organizations like the Patrol Team and the Patrol Office had yet to reach a point where all members were Martial Artists. Typically if someone broke through to the Inner Breath Realm, they would leave their original unit.
Most would join the special forces, while a few would completely withdraw from the officials’ departments in pursuit of greater benefits elsewhere.
There was no need to consider the military; their affairs were separate from those of Pengcheng. The only connection they had was through Robinson William. So, if they truly decided to relocate to Saxon County, they would need to persuade William to bring the special forces with him.
Robinson William now fully understood the situation and, after pondering for a moment, suddenly asked, "Have you confirmed the number of people leaving this time?"
Upon hearing William’s question, Ye Liuyun directly answered, "For now, we have tentatively decided to only take direct relatives with us, leaving others here for the time being."
After hearing this from Ye Liuyun, William nodded and then said, "Due to the previous forced marriage policy, the members of the special forces are mostly married by now, and most already have children, plus the parents of both spouses.
If they really need to go, all these family members must come along since we’re not talking about returning in three or two days — the move is for permanent residence.
And to ask them to abandon their jobs and homes to ensure the safety of us, it may be fine short-term, but if it drags out, problems will likely arise. Have you thought about these issues?"
Ye Liuyun did not respond to William’s objection, but Jameson spoke up directly, "We have considered this matter and planned to bring their families along.
To put it bluntly, once the migration happens, our safety will be in their hands. If we don’t bring them along, it would feel even riskier to us. Besides, with fewer people, it would be inconvenient over there."
After Jameson finished speaking, Ye Liuyun immediately added, "We have also arranged for transportation. Due to the large number of people, we plan to move in three groups, starting after the daily earthquakes."
Hearing Ye Liuyun’s plans, William nodded, but still raised a concern, "Then what about the survivors at the campsite here? The safety here relies entirely on the patrols of the special forces. If we draw them away, who will be responsible for the safety of those left behind?"
William’s retort left the room in silence. He had raised an issue they had indeed considered, but they didn’t really have a better solution,
After all, if they were planning to leave, who would bother to think so much for others?
William had full control over the special forces, and with Ye Liuyun’s decision to transfer with the families of the special forces, he was confident he could persuade all members to follow him.
It wasn’t that William was overly sentimental. If it was just about obeying orders, he could accept it, but giving the order himself to abandon so many survivors at once was something William found difficult to reconcile.
Just as the atmosphere turned increasingly awkward, everyone in the carriage suddenly heard the sound of a car horn outside.
They thought it was merely a vehicle passing by, honking the horn as a safety signal, but the continuous honking drew everyone’s attention.
Since the meeting had reached a deadlock anyway, they decided to get out of the car to take a break, clear their minds, and perhaps come up with other solutions.
As everyone alighted in succession and went to see what the persistent honking vehicle wanted, William noticed Old Zhao from the Patrol Office sitting in the passenger seat of that car.
Seeing Old Zhao, William gestured with his hand for him to come down and chat.
Noticing William’s gesture, Old Zhao quickly got out of the passenger seat and hastened over.
"I didn’t expect to find you here, William. It’s good timing, actually; there’s something I need to discuss with you."
Although unaware of what Old Zhao wanted to discuss, William still led him away from the others and then began talking, "What could you possibly need from me at this point? Surely there isn’t some case that you need my help to crack."
