CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 279: Mission Accomplish
The pirate gave up on running away. He called upon the whale to tank the hit, in the hope of saving the ritual circle.
If he let the circle be destroyed, he would be as good as dead. He had other options than to prevent it.
The whale curled its entire body as the large sword beam cut into its body. It roared loudly, spreading a shockwave to the surrounding area.
"I need to help it!" The pirate clasped his hands together and called upon the power of the Brine. But Mater wouldn’t let him do that.
Hellfire chain shot out and wrapped around him.
"You bastard!" The pirate groaned.
A vortex of fire appeared right behind him. Mater had already finished charging the sword again. The panther sliced the sword over the pirate. The sword beam cut the fish-head man in two.
"I’ll gladly take your power." Mater smiled. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
The fish-head man had no Chaos in him. In his blood had only the pure power of the Brine. Warlock didn’t use Brine because the power of its dimension couldn’t be called upon that easily compared to hell of fire, darkness, and blizzard.
The panther’s paw opened up and pulled the power of the Brine out of the pirate. His body slowly disintegrated into pure white energy.
"Goddamn, anarch!" The pirate groaned but couldn’t do anything.
Quickly his entire body was turned into a pure white ball in Mater’s paw.
"Brine power... Hmmm. Maybe Evelynn could use this for her Rank-2 power." The panther laughed manically.
He swam up to the water surface.
Crow and Solarix were still dealing with the remaining of the Void Wraiths.
"Interesting... The Brine managed to create Chaos beings by infusing specters with Chaos. I wonder if they’re the one who came up with the idea or is there someone else in play?"
The panther opened his mouth and collected the power of the deceased Void Wraiths. There were a lot of them.
Mater added another 373 Chaos Spheres to his storage. He could let Crow and Solarix continue to farm the wraiths but the higher-ups in the Brine had probably sensed what’s happening here.
"Better not to be too greedy about it."
Mater charged another Eternal Beam and slashed it toward the Brine Ritual Circle. The circle broke apart and the dimensional tear came crumbling down.
"Let’s go, servants!"
"Yes, Master!"
The three of them jumped inside the tear before it closed up, completely sealing the pathway.
Colonel Donovan was monitoring the area closely when he saw the level of NES greatly lowered.
"Did he do it?"
Beneath the ground, Mater returned to reality.
"Another mission successfully completed!" The black cat smiled. "Jump into the Dark Grimoire, Solarix. I’ll call you when I need you."
"Yes, Master!" Sol jumped into the leathery book. Mater assigned her to the Floor of Fire.
The Floor of Darkness was an endless dark woods. The Floor of Fire was a barren land with molten lava pouring all across the ground. The sky was red and there were no sun nor stars in it.
Solarix took a deep breath in. The dry air in the Floor of Fire was incredibly nice for her. It almost felt like home. It was, however, a little bit lonely.
Solarix found a lake of lava and submerged beneath it. The heat of the lava felt like the most relaxing hot tub ever to Solarix.
Mater and Crow put on their Mimicry Masks again and transformed back to Assassin and Spots.
They returned to the military base where Colonel Donovan and the soldiers were already waiting for them.
"Mission accomplished?" Colonel Donovan said.
Crow nodded. He typed into the device on his hand, "Accomplish!"
"Was it dangerous?" The Colonel said.
"Not more than usual. Only a few hundred NCEs and a couple of RCEs."
Colonel Donovan and the soldiers gasped. Usually the Psychics would close the Void Gates while the human soldiers would clean the NCEs and RCEs. Never had a Psychic done everything for them.
"I will make sure the Union gives you the highest form of reward, Assassin."
Crow tapped Colonel’s shoulder. He didn’t answer, just simply nodded.
They returned to their tent where Crow browsed the available missions in the Atlas Seven.
"We want some human souls right, Master?"
"Yup. Bash has been sleeping for too long now." The leopard meowed.
"In that case... There is a mission within the Union. There is a group of terrorists in Las Khan. The Union suspects that they have been corrupted by the Void."
"Do we need to keep them alive?"
Crow chuckled, "The objective of the mission is to destroy the enemies."
The leopard stroked its whiskers, "Perfect! Let’s go visit that town!"
Crow and Mater stayed for another night to have a celebration with the soldiers. They had been stationed here for almost six months. Assassin had helped them to return to their homeland.
The two left early in the morning, when an aircraft came and picked them up.
Aeliz City, Atlas Seven’s HQ.
John sat in the leader’s chair, fingers rubbing his forehead.
"Why the fuck are you guys so useless?" John shouted.
In front of them were the main five members of the organizations. The five most powerful. He was the sixth. And Assassin the seventh.
The Diver was also once a member. But he was kicked out after being embarrassed by Selina.
The current seven members of the Atlas Seven were John Shaw, nicknamed Titan, Linda White - the Berserker, Tony Vance - Spy Master, Ray Farrow - Weapon Master, Haley Queen - the Magician, Zachary Andersen - Holy Bolt, and the mysterious Assassin.
Olivia stood behind John Shaw and adjusted her glasses. The trusted secretary that was always there.
"What are you talking about?" Linda smiled.
Linda was a unit. She was strong and muscular. She was even bigger than John Shaw.
"I completed more than 10 missions in the last six months." Linda said.
"Right. But the property damage and innocent casualties have put us at odds with the Union." John said.
Suddenly, he stood up, "The entire reward for your missions were supposed to be five million credits. But they paid us 500,000."
He screamed, "Five hundred fucking thousand! That isn’t enough to cover your salary."
His eyes glowed red.
Linda smirked and stood up, "So what? I am still the highest earning in this group. We don’t get paid for our missions. But I bet those advertisements and sponsorships are more than enough."
Olivia adjusted her glasses, "Berserker does generate a lot of profits from sponsorships."
John raised his finger, "Uh uh! That doesn’t justify the fact that you lost 90% of our mission revenue!"
Suddenly, a ping ringtone echoed from Olivia’s notepad.
"Oh? Assassin’s newest mission just got reported. They reward him with..."
"Yes? Say it!" Linda smirked, "I doubt he made as much as me!"
"The Union rewarded Assassin two million credits."
The entire room fell to silence.
