CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 63: Blow My Cover
Aiden walked into the room without any noise.
The quietness in the room was vicious as Aiden stood behind Princess Cassandra who was unaware of his movements.
"Will this really work?"
"I just hope Ed does not report this to Duke Salvador."
"I do not want to be in any more trouble."
Cassandra was murmuring as she wrote on the pages. Although the ink was getting spread, Aiden could not see anything. The words written were invisible.
’I just want to protect you and yet you want to hide from me? Why?’ Aiden thought as he extended his hand towards Cassandra who was looking down.
Only her neck was visible, shadowed by the hairs. Aiden wanted to remove the platinum blonde hairs to look at her painful eyes.
’Maybe I can see her pinkish-red lips.’ Aiden thought but soon his hands that were about to touch Cassandra’s hair stopped.
’No, I cannot blow my cover.’
’I have to know more.’
Cassandra, unaware of the thoughts going on in Aiden’s mind, was deeply engrossed in her own world.
"But Why will Princess Valeria attack the black eagle’s guard for such a silly reason?" Cassandra rubbed her hands over her chin as she looked up.
The words struck a thought in Aiden’s mind. His sight narrowed on her as he took a step back observing the fifth Princess.
’How did she know?’
’The fifth Princess asked what would happen if one harms the black eagle before she was informed that Princess Valeria attacked one.’
’How?’
’Am I missing something?’
’Something that is right in front of my eyes and yet I cannot see it.’
’What is it?’
Aiden stayed still like a statue for a few seconds. He closed his eyes in irritation at not getting his answer.
"Princess .." Aiden said in a husky tone, almost frightening the fifth Princess.
"Ed." Cassandra held her chest as she tried to control her breathing. "You frightened me."
Cassandra smiled once her emotions were in check. "You want to say something?"
Aiden smiled as his gaze softened. "Yes, We have to report to the Duke soon so .."
"So, Ed will be going?" Cassandra asked in a low voice. Her eyes blinking trying to hide her ongoing emotions.
Aiden nodded. He was about to leave when Cassandra asked in a worried tone. "Is Duke Salvador alright?"
Aiden looked back at the fifth Princess. There was an unknown emotion playing in his heart as he tried to understand it but failed.
"Yes, he is well." Aiden looked out as he was about to leave. "Another black eagle will be guarding you till the time I return. The Princess will be safe at all times."
Cassandra smiled as she saw Ed leave the room as if he was never here. ’I never said I was in danger.’ Cassandra giggled as she focused on the work she was doing.
------
Aiden walked into the room where the Emperor sat. He was looking at the documents as his gaze flocked through the pages.
Seeing the man coming, The Emperor kept the pages down as he focused his full attention towards Duke Salvador.
"The Duke is here." The Emperor smiled. "May I know what was so urgent that you had to come here."
Aiden’s lips curled up as he looked at the Emperor. "When the Royal family decided to give such a beautiful gift to me, I had to make a personal visit."
The Emperor raised his eyebrows at Duke Salvador’s sarcastic words. "What gift?" He asked in curiosity.
Aiden chuckled. "It seems like the Emperor is still unaware," Aiden’s gaze turned darker as his tone was filled with seriousness. "That the royal family had called upon the war between us."
"War?" The Emperor’s eyes narrowed in a daze.
"It seems that the Emperor has not yet been well informed." Aiden smiled as sat on the chair.
The Emperor did not say a word as he looked outside the window at his side. Soon a man came in, knowing that the Emperor wanted to know.
"The first Princess attacked the black eagle with a ring of fire so .." The man was yet to complete when the Emperor stood up in shock, banging his hand on the table.
"VALERIA DID WHAT?" The Emperor managed his emotions with difficulty. He waved his hand making the man disappear in the end. "That .."
The Emperor wanted to explain, but was lost for words. He looked at the walls trying to come up with the solution. "She is still a child. You know it was not what she meant."
"I do not know anything. I just know that the first Princess had declared war against us. It is equivalent to the Royals declaring a war." Aiden smiled. "I wonder if the Empire is ready to see us both conflict before the Vivere Kingdom’s representative reaches here.
The Emperor sat down at his chair. His eyes glared at Duke Salvador as if seeing an enemy. "Are you challenging me, Duke? Or are you forgetting who I am?"
"I remember who the Emperor is and what power you hold in your hands. A man who can control all the four elements, who is the strongest to be known. Someone on whom Elvira grants her favor." Aiden folded his hands as he continued. "But I also know my place. Sometimes having only powers doesn’t count. We should have the experience to put those powers to use."
The Emperor’s smile cracked. He looked at the man sitting in front of him, full of confidence. "This is a threat." The Emperor laughed as his eyes turned serious. "Does Duke Salvador believe I will not harm you just because you have won some wars?"
"No," Aiden smiled as he looked straight into the Emperor’s eyes. "If the first Princess’s action can be neglected as an accident, I am sure the Emperor is kind enough to ignore my words as a mistake as well."
The Emperor’s breathing increased significantly. He could not control his rage as he clenched his fist.
’Calm down.’
’I cannot attack him just yet.’
’We still have Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince coming here.’
’This should never have happened.’
’This is all Princess Valeria’s fault.’
The Emperor took a deep breath as he tried to control his overflowing irritation. "So what does the Duke want?"
"The black eagle will no longer protect Princess Valeria. Seeing the intensity she used to attack one of my guards I am sure the Princess is capable enough to protect herself. And we cannot forget the Emperor and the Empress’s guards at her disposal." Aiden smiled as he tilted his head a little. "Isn’t it?"
The Emperor was about to attack the Duke but he controlled himself, "And then the Duke will forget the incident."
Aiden’s lips curled up a little more. "I believe I can do it then, but I also think it is unfair on my black eagles when I think about it now."
Aiden’s gaze looked down as he sighed. "After all black eagles have worked hard to protect the Empire without asking anything in return. And this is how they were treated by the most powerful Princess that they have always looked up to."
"Then what do you want? Stop playing around the bush and tell me frankly." The Emperor gritted his teeth. He was waiting to get to the reason why Duke Salvador was behaving that way.
But the Emperor could not say anything else. After all, it was his daughter’s fault.
"I want Princess Valeria to be detained till the Vivere Kingdom’s people are here. She can participate on the day of the ball but I do not want the Princess to participate in any other events."
The Emperor’s gaze solidified. "That would be .."
"After all, I do not want other Princesses to follow in the footsteps of the first Princess and attack my army again." Aiden’s gaze narrowed. "I know the Emperor nor I want to go to war."
The Emperor’s hand forced a fist. His hands turned almost red. His nose was flaming due to rage, but the Emperor still smiled. "Yes, of course. We both do not want that."
Aiden nodded as he got up from his chair. "I hope that the Emperor will act upon it at the earliest. After all, my black eagles are still in a rage."
Duke Salvador turned around after he bowed. He left the room leaving the Emperor alone.
As soon as the room was quiet, the Emperor got up from his chair in a rage. His eyes glowing with hatred. He banged on the table in anger as he looked at the door that was now closed.
"Emperor .." The man who had reported the incident came back from the window.
"You are late again." The Emperor looked at the man as his nose twitched. He forwarded his hand as he formed a ring of fire similar to Princess Valeria.
"You cannot even report such a simple thing as this?" The Emperor tilted his head as he looked at the ring that gave flames out. "How incompetent people are required in the palace? How long do I have to be dependent on the Dukedoms?"
The Emperor looked at the man. His lips curled up as said in a soft tone. "You sure should be punished."
The Emperor held his hand as he attacked the man with the ring of fire, burning the man into askes.
"AHHH .."
"EMPEROR I APOLOGIZE"
"HELP ME!"
"PLEA .."
The Emperor laughed as his eyes turned darker. "I want to end this soon. And I need to start with my own daughter."
