Capturing the Young Doctor's Heart: Mr. Big Shot Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 38 - 37: Despicable
Five words appear boldly in front of her eyes.
Straightforward, explicit, and unreserved in his desire for her.
Claire Prescott’s face instantly flushed red, her heart gradually losing its rhythm, pounding fiercely one beat after another.
How can he speak so... bluntly...
Clearly, he’s not this kind of person... is he?
Thinking of the two other men sitting nearby, and when Finn Prescott leaned over to see what she was doing, she hurriedly turned off the screen, her face burning even hotter.
She lowered her head, pressed her hand against her forehead to cover her face, and silently took a sip of tea to calm her nerves.
Yet she still felt the air was warm, as if bewitched, and couldn’t help but recall the gentle, breeze-like kiss outdoors, her mind full of Keane Lowell’s thin and soft lips.
Had he not mentioned the benefit, she would’ve seriously doubted the person messaging her was Keane Lowell.
But thinking it through, given his status, who else would have access to him and be able to touch his phone?
Claire suddenly remembered that night when she couldn’t sleep and sent him two words "sleeping", causing a misunderstanding.
So...
The person who replied to her that night was him, he tricked her?
Looking at it this way, did he want to... sleep with her for a long time?
The man opposite her, Ethan Lancaster, had long noticed her unease, his gaze fixed on her, inexplicably irked, and his expression suddenly turned somber.
He suddenly asked, "About the marriage between our two families, how is Uncle considering it?"
Upon hearing this, Claire abruptly raised her head, bewilderedly looking at him, "What marriage?"
"It seems your brother and uncle haven’t mentioned our situation to you." Ethan Lancaster’s tone held a slight pressure.
Before Claire could respond.
Finn Prescott frowned and spoke slowly, "Whether to mention it is our issue, whether my sister likes you is the matter of the Prescott Family. I have previously told you, no one should try to force her."
The tone had some authority, indicating his stance.
As their gazes met, it seemed two invisible forces were contending with each other, neither willing to retreat, a hint of gunpowder smell emanating.
From these words, Claire already analyzed what was happening: the Prescott and Lancaster families wanted to form an alliance, the parties being her and Ethan Lancaster.
No wonder Father suddenly seemed like a different person today, even his speaking tone unusually gentle, hinting to her about friendly competition; it seems everything was in preparation for this moment.
She calmly looked at Ethan Lancaster opposite, "A commercial marriage alliance? You proposed it?"
"It was me." Ethan Lancaster openly admitted, his deep voice particularly candid.
Claire Prescott’s fists clenched tight, her eyes already showing irritation.
She turned to Finn, "I need a space to talk to him alone."
Observing her expression and tone.
Finn knew, she was angry.
He also had anticipated this.
However, her current emotional stability surprised him somewhat.
After all, she had grown, unlike in her childhood, she wouldn’t display all emotions on her face.
Finn lastly glanced at his sister and Ethan Lancaster, silently getting up to leave.
But he didn’t go far, instead stood where he could clearly see their actions, lighting a cigarette, silently keeping watch.
Certainly apprehensive that she’d be bullied.
Though, he more anticipated the moment his sister scolded someone.
The Kystral amusement park project was originally built by the Prescott Family for her, just what he didn’t expect was after meticulous planning, everything went smoothly but ultimately stumbled here at Ethan Lancaster.
...
"Mr. Lancaster, don’t you find your actions excessive?" Claire Prescott frowned and questioned.
The man opposite leisurely took a sip of tea, "Without strategies, how can I make you see my determination."
What he held was still gentlemanly, but the words he spoke were particularly despicable and overbearing, as if whatever he wanted was easily within his grasp, everything wholly under his control.
Noticing her displeasure and resistance, Ethan Lancaster’s tone subconsciously softened: "Past incidents have led you to misunderstand me, I understand you’re not fond of me currently, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never change your mind. Proposing an alliance is my wish to give us a chance to mutually understand each other, yet marrying you is ultimately my goal."
"Without asking if others have someone they like, if they have a boyfriend, disregarding others’ feelings from start to end, using all means to control others’ marriage destiny, such a person is not worthy of understanding." She met his gaze fearlessly, each word clear: "Mr. Lancaster, you are very despicable."
Ethan Lancaster’s face slightly darkened, staring straight at her, silent.
Claire continued, "Given Mr. Lancaster’s conditions, countless girls would want to get close to the Lancaster Family. If Mr. Lancaster places interest above all, if the two families must be married, why not ask Finn if he fancies a girl from the Lancaster Family. Ultimately, I will not marry you."
Her tone was firm.
Not far away, Finn was caught off guard by a cough from the smoke.
Knowing she lacked conscience, he didn’t expect in such a major matter, she’d be so heartless to push him out as a shield.
She indeed has a knack.
Finn took a sharp drag on his cigarette, helplessly looking at that slender back.
Hearing her continue, "However, Mr. Lancaster, if you think Prescott Family children will willingly sacrifice their marriage for interest, then you greatly underestimate us. Our Prescott Family has not reached a point of no return."
Having said this, Claire stood up from her seat, taking her phone and leaving.
Finn extinguished the cigarette butt, stepping to follow, yet stopped by Ethan Lancaster, "My sister is quite immature, please forgive her."
Ethan Lancaster lifted his gaze to look at him.
Finn spoke sternly, "However, my sister did say one thing correctly, our Prescott Family has not reached a point of no return."
Speaking, he turned and left.
...
On the way back, Claire sat in the back seat, suddenly asking, "What benefits did Ethan Lancaster offer you all, to sell me out like this?"
Finn coaxed, "That benefit isn’t necessary. Dad’s meaning was everything is based on your thoughts, if you don’t fancy him, you can be friends, after all, you’re both in Kystral."
"If you truly care about my well-being, you should’ve been honest earlier, not tricked me into coming here, letting someone else tell me about the marriage alliance."
Finn patiently said, "Everything is based on your thoughts, no need to deceive you."
Claire took a deep breath, a strange sense of disappointment flashing in her heart...
At night, only the sibling duo were home, Jericho Prescott wasn’t there.
After Father’s morning talk, Claire was compelled to sleep at home, after showering, she had just picked up her phone when a knock sounded from the door.
When opened, Finn’s figure appeared at the doorstep.
He held his phone, straightforwardly saying, "Remove my number from your blacklist, also add me on WeChat, so you won’t be unable to find someone later."
"I won’t get lost."
"A brother having no sister on WeChat, a brother’s number on sister’s blacklist, does that make sense?"
Claire expressionlessly looked at him, then raised her hand to shut the door, "Stop using the brother card to manage me."
The sound drifted out through the gap, leaving a trace.
She absentmindedly leaned against the bed, stayed still, then opened Keane Lowell’s WeChat, the message about wanting to kiss her still lay at the bottom of the chat box.
Gathering dust, as if ignored.
