Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 95: Black Material
AM, in the Yuyang Municipal Bureau.
The officer slammed his palm on the table, almost overturning everything on the surface as he roared angrily. "Is that thing of yours more important than a human’s life? To the point where you can kill someone for it?! Why don’t you tell me what it is so I can see if it’s worth your head or not?!"
Sitting opposite him was a gloomy and haggard Long Guozhi. His entire person was shrouded in an air of sluggishness, with a sickly hue in his complexion. His body reeked of liquor, sweat and vomit because he was still retching the content of his stomach out when he was dragged out of the ambulance to the police station.
Just a few short hours ago, he was still lounging in the most prestigious bar in Yuyang, sipping on expensive wine and making plans for the future once he received the compensation money and plane ticket to go abroad. Just one more day... he only needed to wait for one more day and he could finally escape from this suffocating mire. So how the hell did he end up in this damned place?!
No matter how hard Long Guozhi pondered on it, he could not figure out how these people ambushed him in such a coincidental timing. His luck ought to be very shitty to be implicated between two Alpha’s battle of pheromones, which resulted in him feeling so sick that he needed to be brought away by an ambulance. Yes, that must be it!
Never had he expected that one of the so-called bigshot Alpha, whom he assumed was a figure he could not offend no matter what, would be a spy from the police. Even though the subsequent incident that happened was a total coincidence, his fate had long been determined ever since the police locked in on him – or to be exact, since he agreed to be the knife to kill that woman surnamed Zhao.
Even if he could somehow escape today, it was not like his Boss would allow him to leave unscathed. He had no idea if he had not been caught by the police, then the only future which would await him was... death. At least he was still alive and kicking right now. It was a pity that Long Guozhi never realized how worthless he was. He was still thinking of shielding that person in case they would bail him out.
Just a moment ago, in a moment of carelessness and rage, he had blurted out that he was searching for an important item in Zhao Xinya’s house.
Yes, it was very important, indeed. Not to him, but his employer.
Long Guozhi did not actually know what it was, he was just ordered to ransack the woman’s house upside down to search for a little black box. However, he had overturned every nook and cranny twice, only short of tearing apart the floorboards to see if there was a secret space below, yet the so-called ’little black box’ was nowhere to be found.
As expected, his employer was very displeased by his failure, and it was already a miracle that he would still be compensated. Alas, before he could even inhale the scent of money in his possession, he was suddenly taken away by the police?! How would he be reconciled like this?!
Facing the ferocious officer, the corner of Long Guozhi’s lips tilted into a sneer. Due to the long scar on his right cheek, it made him look all the more sinister, just like an evil spirit who had crawled his way from underground. "Why should I tell you?" He taunted with a hoarse, unpleasant voice.
The officer became more enraged at his provocation. "You still have no idea what kind of future awaits you, huh?! If you decide to be honest and tell us everything you know, then we will be able to plead leniency for you to spend a couple more years in prison. But at this rate, let alone squatting behind the bars, you will be directly brought to the execution ground!" The officer made a neck slashing gesture with his palm. "You will be finished like this. Finished! Do you understand?!"
In this matter, Long Guozhi was actually very clueless. He was only a knife, a weapon for that person to wield at their disposal. Did a weapon need to know its wielder’s real intention? No. As long as it was still sharp enough to slash down the enemy, then it could be considered useful. But once it had turned dull and blunt, then it was time to discard him and change with the new one.
A sharp glint flashed through Long Guozhi’s murky eyes. He would not allow himself to be changed! Never!
"It’s useless no matter how many times you try to threaten me." Long Guozhi placed his cuffed hands on the table and leaned forward with a mockery smirk on his face. "Yes, I admit that I am the one who killed that woman. As for that piece of item..." he stared right into the officer’s eyes, almost boring a hole into the other. "Indeed, it is very important. Much more important than my life or even... yours. Do you still have any other questions?"
"You—!"
Behind the one-way mirror on the wall were officers from the Violent Crime Investigation, including Li Zhi, Kang Guanyu, Chen Lian and a few others. Everyone had not gotten enough rest for the past few days, and their temper was a bit irritable. They wished they could shake the truth out of Long Guozhi’s mouth so they could close the case once and for all. Seeing this kind of uncooperative act, they burst out into expletives one after another.
"Damn it, this old bastard is so fucking annoying! He is already in our hands, yet he still dares to act like this?!"
"Hmph, wait until Laozi gets there to teach him a lesson!"
Kang Guanyu rubbed the dampness on his eyes and asked Li Zhi sleepily, "Captain, what should we do...?"
Li Zhi had a cigarette dangling on the corner of his lips. It was unknown how many sticks he had sucked today. The thick scent of tobacco clung to his clothes, and the dark shadow beneath his eyes was so dark it could scare crying children into silence. "Keep going," he uttered in an extremely hoarse voice. "We will take turns to wear him down."
Chen Lian had been keeping her distance from the stinky Captain. However, hearing this, she could not help but scoot closer and piped in whilst pinching her nose, "Captain, I think it is futile."
Li Zhi shot her a sideways glance and threw the cigarette butt into the trash can.
Knowing that it was a sign for her to continue, Chen Lian pushed up her glasses and continued her analysis. "We will only waste our time on him. Judging from how things are going, Long Guozhi should be nothing more than an easily disposable lackey. He might be telling the truth about the important item in Miss Zhao’s house, but he might not necessarily know what it really is. He must be stalling for time so that his backing will be able to react once an unexpected situation arises."
"Goddamnit, A-Chen!" Kang Guanyu’s eyes widened in surprise, and his speech hastened in excitement. "So our inference that the culprit was deliberately messing up the crime scene to search for something is really true?!"
"Well, I am 90% certain of it," she nodded. "It also conforms with our original hypothesis. Miss Zhao Xinya must have offended someone powerful. In this case, she stole something important belonging to that person, and in retaliation, that person used Long Guozhi to retrieve that item and kill her in the process." Then she repeated the question the officer in the interrogation room had thrown to Long Guozhi. "What item can be so important to the point where they are willing to kill someone for it?"
Kang Guanyu had a sudden epiphany and slammed his right fist on his left palm. "Oh my God, it must be a black material! Yes, that’s right, Miss Zhao must be holding something against that person. Shall it get exposed, then it will be very detrimental to them. And that’s the reason why that person chose to kill Miss Zhao once and for all! It is to silence her forever!!"
Everyone in the monitor room sank into silence as they felt like what Chen Lian and Kang Guanyu said was completely logical and reasonable.
"But, if that is the case..." another officer chimed in with a hesitant tone. "We have already searched Miss Zhao’s house, gone through her belongings, bank records and phone calls, yet we found nothing suspicious, let alone a black material. Where could she have hidden it?"
From experience, they instinctively perceived that this ought to be a very important piece of evidence. However, now that the person herself was already lying on the operating table in the forensic center for autopsy, where should they go to seek the truth?
