Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 538: How Arrogant
He Juan did not have to wait long before Luo Xuan caught wind of the news of Xuanlong because the very next day, just before the sun dipped below the horizon, he received a call from the omega who was clearly seething with rage. "Where are you? Let’s meet in person."
A hoarse laugh escaped He Juan’s lips when he heard those words. It was the same sentence, yet their roles were reserved this time. "You’re willing to talk to me now?" he asked, his tone dripping in sarcasm.
The other side of the call was silent for a second, before Luo Xuan spat out an address and instructed him, "Meet me there." He swiftly hung up on the call without giving He Juan a chance to react.
It was yet another luxurious villa, but this time Luo Xuan had evidently come prepared, for He Juan found a dozen of private bodyguards stationed throughout the house, both Betas and Alphas. The Luo Xuan he knew would consider it beneath him to seek protection from others, given his superb fighting prowess and cautious nature.
He must have grown wary of He Juan, huh?
A faint sneer curled on his lips at the realization. As he stepped through the door, he cast a sweeping glance over the guards inside, causing them to tense up involuntarily. Be it Betas or Alphas, all of their faces betrayed the same vigilance when they set their eyes upon him.
He Juan did not blame them.
It was within their instinct to be apprehensive when confronted with someone vastly superior, especially now that he no longer had any intention to show even a semblance of courtesy. His overpowering presence instantly filled the whole room, and every step he took exuded the oppressive scent of rosewood and whiskey, tinged with a hint of bloodlust. His aura made it difficult to breathe in his vicinity.
The bodyguards should have performed a body check on him before granting access. Alas, they were completely overwhelmed by the overpowering pheromones He Juan exuded and stood frozen for several seconds, allowing him to proceed to where Luo Xuan was.
He found the man sitting in the garden outside, sipping tea with an air of poise and composure. There was no trace of anger on his features, as he had apparently regained his bearings during the time He Juan spent to come here. He placed his tea cup down and gestured for the empty seat opposite him, which He Juan did not hesitate to settle on.
"Care to explain?" Luo Xuan showed a smile that did not reach his eyes. "Why did I discover that Xuanlong has become a shell company? You have been scheming behind my back for a long time, haven’t you, XIU?"
Exactly who was scheming on whom? Had it been He Juan of a week ago, he would have raised his hackles at such a shameless question. But now, he was so calm that he surprised even himself. To be more precise, he had grown so numb that he couldn’t even muster a hint of anger. The curvature of his lips only deepened when he responded lightly, "You took my brother from me, isn’t it only fair if I destroy your most important thing too? An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. That’s what you taught me, isn’t it, Boss?" He raised a mocking brow, causing the corner of Luo Xuan’s left eye to twitch.
Luo Xuan sighed and signaled for the guards, who had finally shaken off their stupor and chased after them here, to retreat. However, He Juan was not done. "Oh, am I mistaken? Is Xuanlong no longer your most prized possession? Should it be... the X serum?"
A morbid satisfaction bloomed in He Juan’s heart when Luo Xuan’s expression contorted, his brown eyes simmering with rage. "Don’t take it too far, XIU. You know the way of the underworld. I’m actually doing this for your own good, don’t you realize it?"
"...Excuse me?" He Juan seriously thought that he had heard wrong. What kind of nonsense was this person spouting? For his own good? Killing his little brother, his one and only family, was for his own good?
Rising from his seat, Luo Xuan placed his hands firmly on the table and leaned forward, his brown eyes locked onto He Juan. He stated in a matter-of-fact tone, "You’re too soft-hearted, XIU. That trait will be your downfall sooner or later, don’t you think so? Look at how much you have changed since you got rid of the liability in your life. To be fair, this is how my left-hand man should be. You will become as powerful– no, even more powerful than Ku Jin. By then, no one will be able to stand against you."
"Ha..." a laugh slipped out of He Juan’s lips, unbidden. It quickly morphed into a full-bodied guffaw. He laughed so hard that his shoulders shook, and tears squeezed out of his eyes. "Liability, you say? Is that how you viewed your own family, Luo Xuan?"
Something within Luo Xuan’s eyes wavered for a split second before he swiftly hardened himself. "Am I wrong? They would only hold you back and become your weakness."
"You’re not wrong," He Juan agreed readily, catching Luo Xuan a little off guard.
Just as a sliver of wariness crept into his heart and he was ready to grab his katana beside him, an onslaught of Alpha’s pheromones rushed toward him like a tidal wave. He staggered back, colors draining from his face as he stared at He Juan in thick disbelief.
"You... how?" Icy shivers ran down his spine as he looked into He Juan’s unfathomable eyes, and for the first time ever, genuine fear surged up from the bottom of his heart. "How can your pheromones affect me? This is not possible!"
With a movement so fast that it couldn’t be seen with naked eyes, He Juan lunged forward, caught the back of Luo Xuan’s neck and slammed the omega down on the table!
A wintry smile played on his lips as he remarked, "How arrogant, Luo Xuan. Do you really think you’re invincible just because of your mutated pheromones? At the end of the day, you are an Omega, and I..." he tightened his grip around Luo Xuan’s neck, causing the omega to gasp for breath. The scent of fear now saturated into his pheromones, for He Juan was clamping down on his gland, forcing him to submit. "...an Alpha. I simply haven’t gone all out against you yet."
"You’re right," He Juan laughed with despair in his eyes. "Now that I have lost everything, I can even go as far as to violate my bottom line – using my power to harm an omega."
"Guards!" Luo Xuan finally cried out in a panic when he couldn’t break free from He Juan’s tight grip. "Come here and—"
But He Juan swiftly silenced him with a deft chop to the back of the neck, rendering the omega unconscious. He slung Luo Xuan over his shoulder like a potato sack and faced the guards who burst into the garden, their guns trained on him.
"Don’t move! Put him down, or else we will shoot!"
"I’m afraid I can’t do that," He Juan replied in a mock apologetic tone. He walked forward without an ounce of fear and hesitation, his pheromones intensified as he imbued commanding power into his words, "Get lost, or I will make you."
