Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 535: Take Me With You
Was he being too cruel? He Juan found himself asking as he took in the shock and confusion in Mu Yuze’s eyes. Was it too cruel of him to come here and wedge a knife into Mu Yuze’s heart? Should he just disappear once and for all without a word and let Mu Yuze forget about him slowly?
Mu Yuze was still young, after all. He had just turned seventeen; he had a whole lifetime ahead of him. In the future, he would meet lots of people – be it Alphas, Betas or Omegas – and he would eventually realize that He Juan was nothing compared to them.
He Juan— a high school dropout, a mafioso, a wanted criminal, and worst of all, the murderer of his own brother. Oh, He Juan was so certain that Mu Yuze could find thousands of people better than him out there who deserved his affection more than He Juan ever could.
In the end, He Juan would be nothing more than a fleeting memory, a passerby forgotten as time went on.
That’s why, it should be okay for him to be a little selfish, right? It was okay for him to hope that Mu Yuze would remember him, even if it was just for a second longer. Right?
"G–Goodbye?" Mu Yuze stammered lightly when he asked, his soulful eyes searching into He Juan’s for any kind of answer. "Where are you going? Will you be gone... for a long time?"
He Juan’s fingertips trembled as they pressed against Mu Yuze’s slender wrist, taking in the rapid rhythm of his pulse. The Alpha within him was thrashing and howling upon detecting the sign of distress from his mate, and God... he couldn’t do this. He couldn’t bring himself to look into Mu Yuze’s eyes, or else he would completely fall apart.
But what was he hesitating for? Hadn’t his heart died already?
That’s right, the old He Juan had begun to wither from the moment He Xie took his last breath, and he continued to wither as he dragged himself step by step to this moment. This is something I must do, he told himself over and over again.
"En," he forced an easy smile on his face, though he had no idea how well it was working right now. He slowly released his grip and let his hands fall limply by his side, his eyes lowered. "I’m going somewhere else, and it may take a very, very long time. That’s why..." his voice faltered when the omega’s scent took a sour note, but he managed to grit out through his tightening throat, "That’s why, don’t wait for me anymore this time, Xiao Ze ah." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Mu Yuze remained motionless, yet his scent told He Juan everything he needed to know. His nails dug into his palms hard enough to draw blood, but he could no longer feel any kind of pain. Not when every inch of his instinct was clamoring for him to take back his words, to soothe the omega, to get on his knees and beg for forgiveness.
For God’s sake, He Juan had never known how difficult it was to rein in his Alpha until now! He wanted nothing more than to release his pheromones to calm and reassure his agitated mate. He had no idea how he managed to endure, but he did, even as he tasted the metallic tang of blood in his mouth.
"Is that it?" Mu Yuze’s voice was quiet, so small and oh so fragile that He Juan’s heart convulsed in pain. "You’re here just to... just to tell me this? Tell me that you don’t want me anymore? That you’re going to abandon me once and for all?"
He Juan swallowed as subtly as he could, trying his hardest not to raise his head and refute Mu Yuze’s words outright. How could he even think of such an absurd idea? How could he even entertain the thought that He Juan would ever abandon him, even if it’s for a split second? It’s not true; he would never abandon Mu Yuze. Not now, not ever. But if this would make Mu Yuze hate him...
"Yes," he exhaled, struggling to keep his tone neutral. "That’s right, it’s exactly as you think."
The silence that followed was suffocating. But He Juan relished himself in it, for this was the punishment he deserved. Hate me, Xiao Ze. Hate me with all of your heart. Curse me, hit me, and despise me. Just blame it all on me. But after this, you have to move on quickly and forget about me. Forget—
"...Liar."
Mu Yuze’s voice jolted him back to the present. He flinched when Mu Yuze suddenly grabbed his hand and coaxed his clenched fist open, revealing the crescent-shaped bloody marks on the surface of his palm. Another shudder wracked through his body when Mu Yuze caressed the wounds lightly with his fingers, his voice probing. "Something happened, didn’t it? Are you pushing me away... because you’re afraid that I will be implicated?"
This time, the chuckle that escaped from He Juan’s lips was genuine. It was raspy, unbidden, and tinged with mirth. How? Just how could Mu Yuze pierce through his armor every single time and see into his soul? How did he do it so effortlessly, when no one else could?
"Juan-gege, you can’t even look me straight in the eye..." he scoffed. "And you still want to deceive me? Do you think I’m stupid?"
A burst of fondness and tenderness spread in He Juan’s chest, yet no sooner than it appeared, it was replaced with profound sorrow and bitterness. Mu Yuze was so good. So brilliant, witty, and perceptive. He was the most perfect mate anyone could have asked for.
And now, He Juan was going to sever this bond between them with his own hands. It felt no different than flaying his own skin, if not worse.
Mu Yuze grew more confident upon seeing this reaction from He Juan. He knew deep down that there was no way his Juan-gege would ever abandon him. Thus he grasped He Juan’s hand tighter, his tone imploring. "What are you going to do? Can you... no, you don’t have to tell me anything. I won’t even ask you to stay, but..." a hitch sounded on his throat, and He Juan felt the breath knocked out of his lungs when he sensed warm droplets of tears falling onto his skin. "Can I go with you? Hmm? I promise, I won’t get in your way. I won’t even ask you to come save me. I am more than capable of taking care of myself. Just..."
He Juan made the mistake of lifting his head at that moment, and the sight of Mu Yuze’s tear-stained face tore his already numb heart to shreds, squeezing out every drop of life from within.
"Just take me with you, okay?" Mu Yuze pleaded in a faint whisper, his eyes awashed with tears.
The realization struck him with the force of a train wreck, causing his heart to seize painfully. Mu Yuze was not actually as confident as he sounded. He was just... desperate. Desperate to hold onto He Juan, desperate to follow him, desperate to chase after him. He Juan could see the raw anguish and fear in his eyes. And oh, never before had He Juan loathed himself more than he did now.
He should have left. He should have just left without a word. Coming here was a fatal mistake, and now Mu Yuze had to suffer from the consequences of his actions. Goodness, he couldn’t do this. He couldn’t go through this any longer. One more second, and he would crumple under the force of Mu Yuze’s tears like a wet tissue paper.
That’s why He Juan squeezed his eyes shut, gritted his teeth and resorted to the last method he despised the most.
He used his Alpha’s command to make Mu Yuze obey his words.
"Don’t move."
