Chapter 508: Are You Going To Betray Me?

"Isn’t it the truth?" The depth of Luo Xuan’s eyes were icy cold, and he did not even bat an eyelid in the face of He Juan’s increasingly uncontrollable pheromones. His calm demeanor was a stark contrast to the emotionally charged Alpha, as though he would always be in control regardless of what happened. "The reason you’re here right now, the reason you’re trying to exert dominance over me with your pheromones, isn’t it all because of him?"

"What? I—" He Juan’s eyes widened in disbelief and he promptly released his grip on Luo Xuan as if scalded, the oppressive pheromones around him dissipated into nothing. He did not even realize that he had lost control of his pheromones, so absorbed was he in the maelstrom of emotions that threatened to drive him to the brink of insanity. It had never been his intention to dominate... especially another omega, at that!

Luo Xuan smoothed down his crumpled clothing and turned away, walking toward a nearby table where he placed the golf club. Besides a plate of snacks and a pot of tea, his katana lay there as well, but He Juan failed to notice it as he was still grappling with the audacious action he had done. Nor did he notice Luo Xuan moving to grab the weapon.

"For me, nothing changes the fact that you’re rebelling against me because of him. Tell me, isn’t that alone enough for me to get rid of him?"

He Juan gasped and shook his head fervently, his mind a jumbled mess of thoughts. "It’s not... it has never been his fault! He doesn’t have anything to do with us! Even without him, I still wouldn’t stand by your side. Why can’t you see that?!"

Alas, instead of responding to his frenzied plea, Luo Xuan posed a question of his own. "Are you going to betray me, XIU?" His voice remained soft and gentle. It was simply impossible to gauge his mood based on his tone alone. "Just because of an outsider, are you going to betray me, your Boss, and Xuanlong, the organization that has sheltered you for almost a decade?"

As He Juan gazed upon that slender back, he came to an abrupt realization that nothing he said would come across to the other person. Luo Xuan had been determined to eliminate Marius, regardless of the reason, and He Juan’s reaction was just the icing on the cake. At that moment, He Juan felt an indescribable notion that he had never truly known this person. Why did he keep trying? What was he even fighting for if Luo Xuan had already made up his mind?

Shaking his head, He Juan let out a weary, rueful chuckle. "If you think that siding with my friend, siding with my conviction, siding with what I believe is correct counts as betrayal, then—" that’s right, this is my betrayal.

Alas, He Juan was not even given a chance to finish that sentence because the next second, Luo Xuan’s blade left its sheath and sliced through the air with a sharp whistle. He Juan only had enough time to register the wind striking in his direction before a burst of excruciating pain erupted across his chest from where Luo Xuan had struck him without mercy.

"You..." He Juan stared at him in sheer disbelief as he staggered backward, blood gushing from the deep gash across his body, staining the grass beneath him crimson. It was not until now that he could have a clear look of Luo Xuan’s eyes.

The eyes that were filled with fury, resentment and derision.

Even then, his voice remained ever gentle and unhurried, sending a terrifying chill down He Juan’s spine. "It’s okay. Regardless of your answer, I will not give you the chance to betray me."

He Juan clutched his chest, blood soaking the front of his shirt in a blink of an eye. The attack had come too sudden, too swift that he couldn’t react for a while. Numbing sensation spread throughout his limbs, and he felt as if Luo Xuan’s katana had shattered his ribs and crushed the bloody organs within. Within seconds, his vision was filled with black spots. Dizziness overwhelmed him, rendering him unable to breathe properly.

Too fast. There was no way he could be defeated by a single strike. He had half a mind to register that Luo Xuan must have coated his blade with some substance, but then the omega made his second move and struck He Juan’s neck!

On pure reflex, He Juan raised his arms to protect his vitals, but the impact ended up knocking him down to the ground.

And the instant his head collided with the hard surface, everything turned dark.

When He Juan’s consciousness gradually returned, he opened his eyes to find himself in a place all too familiar to him. It was the very room where he had tortured countless enemies and traitors of the organization.

The underground chamber in Xuanlong’s headquarters.

However this time, the roles had reversed and the one who was held captive was him. Currently, He Juan was kneeling on the grimy bloodstained tiles with his arms bound by chains on either side. With every involuntary movement, the chains would clink noisily and tug on the wound across his chest, sending jolts of agony through his entire being. Someone had stitched and bandaged the gash for him when he was unconscious, though at the rate he was struggling, it would likely tear open sooner or later.

"You’d better move less," a voice broke through the oppressive darkness, emanating from the corner of the room where the light did not reach. "You don’t want to open your wounds again, do you?"

He Juan felt that the entire situation was too ironic, and he couldn’t help but laugh, though it was utterly devoid of humor. "What? I’m the scourge of the organization now? Are you going to torture me?"

Footsteps approached, and Luo Xuan emerged from the shadows, donned in a sleek black suit and leather gloves. He stopped before He Juan and looked down at the Alpha with a smile that did not reach his eyes. "Torture? What are you talking about? Don’t worry, XIU. You are still a precious and indispensable member of Xuanlong. This..." he made a gesture to He Juan’s overall position. "...is just a little punishment for your recent act of rebellion."
