Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 480: Listen To Gege, Okay?
Toeing off his shoes, He Juan entered the living room and hesitated for a brief second before he went to ruffle Mu Yuze’s hair. "It’s already so late, why are you still eating ice cream? Be careful not to upset your stomach." His tone sounded like a reproachful parent lecturing his child, yet a deeper scrutiny would reveal a hint of fond helplessness within, as if he couldn’t help but dote on the boy. Coupled with his low, slightly husky voice, it was as if a hook had caught on to Mu Yuze’s heartstrings, making his face flush an inexplicable shade of red.
Fortunately, the living room was dark and it managed to conceal his blush to some extent.
He quietly basked in He Juan’s warm and gentle touch like a lone sunflower drawn to where the dazzling sun was, and when He Juan withdrew his hand, an abrupt sense of loss permeated into his heart and he bit his bottom lip hard so as to not blurt out something foolish, like begging for more head-pats. "I didn’t eat too much..." he murmured under his breath. His gaze drifted to He Juan’s right arm, and he suddenly recalled the man’s condition the last time they met. "How about you?" He inquired with a hint of anxiety. "The wound on your arm..."
This matter would have slipped off He Juan’s mind if Mu Yuze had not mentioned it. "Oh, that? It’s already healed ages ago." When Mu Yuze’s gaze turned skeptical, He Juan chuckled and rolled up his sleeve to prove his claim. "See?"
An Alpha’s healing capability was better than Betas or Omegas, even more with a superior Alpha like He Juan. The superficial skin wound had scabbed over by the very next day, and now only a thin pinkish mark remained on his skin.
However, Mu Yuze’s focus was not there. As soon as He Juan rolled up his sleeve, his gaze instantly fixed on the toned and perfectly sculpted bicep revealed before him. He Juan’s skin was a healthy wheat color, a sharp contrast to his own fair and milky complexion. Despite the multitude of old scars adorning it, his arm exuded an air of elegance and hidden explosive power. Mu Yuze became dazed as his eyes lingered on a particular prominent vein trailing down that arm, and his heart – which had barely calmed down – sped up again like a horde of galloping horses were stomping around in a frenzy.
He cleared his throat and averted his gaze, "Y–You’re right..." Oh God, keep your mind out of the gutter, Mu Yuze!
Unaware of the turmoil he had stirred in the boy’s heart, He Juan saw that he had managed to convince Mu Yuze and rolled down his sleeve in satisfaction. He began to usher Mu Yuze to sleep, his expression stern, "Alright, enough television for today. What time is it now? Go to sleep. You still have a lesson with Teacher Wei tomorrow, right?"
"Mn." Under He Juan’s insistence, he could only turn off the TV, put the ice cream back in the freezer and retreated to his room. All the while, He Juan trailed a few steps behind him, and Mu Yuze did not even need to turn around to know that the man’s gaze never strayed far from him, rendering him so nervous that he almost walked with his hands and feet parallel with each other. Mu Yuze breathed in and out through his mouth, trying and failing to calm his furiously beating heart. This tension was going to kill him sooner or later!
When they reached Mu Yuze’s room, He Juan finally broke the silence, "I’m sorry... for being so busy these past few days. Are you feeling okay now? You’re following Mr. Ma’s instructions, right? If you’re feeling unwell, just give him a call and don’t try to keep it to yourself. You still have his number, don’t you?"
Hearing him nag, Mu Yuze puffed up his cheeks and grumbled under his breath in a somewhat sullen tone, "Don’t worry, I can take care of myself just fine. I am not a child anymore."
"Yes, yes," He Juan was so amused by the look on his face that he couldn’t help but laugh, the low rumbling sound resonating in the air. "Our Xiao Ze has grown up. Gege knows that you’re more than capable of taking care of yourself, but can’t I still worry about you?" He placed his hands into his pocket, his eyes curving into crescents as he urged gently, "Go in and sleep. Have a good dream, Xiao Ze."
Mu Yuze stared at the man before him, whose silhouette was half-shrouded in the shadows. Clearly, He Juan looked no different than usual, but Mu Yuze couldn’t shake off the feeling that something had subtly changed in him. Perhaps it was just him being too sensitive and paranoid, but an irrational impulse surged within him, telling him to hold onto the man tight. His chest abruptly tightened and an odd unease settled in the pit of his stomach, prompting him to halt on his tracks.
"Xiao Ze?" He Juan asked upon seeing him dawdling on the door. "What’s wrong?"
"Gege..." Mu Yuze chewed on his bottom lip before bracing himself to ask, "Aren’t you staying?"
Upon hearing that question, He Juan was taken aback for a second before laughing, a little speechless. "Goodness, why are you so sharp at a time like this?"
Now that his doubt was confirmed, Mu Yuze couldn’t contain his anxiety anymore. He stepped forward and clutched onto the hem of He Juan’s sleeve. He dared not even hold onto He Juan’s arm directly, fearing that he could come off as too greedy and unreasonable, but the way he held onto that piece of fabric until his knuckles turned white had already conveyed his desperation. "W–Where are you going? You..." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Sssh, it’s okay. I will not leave." He Juan was quick to utter reassurance, distressed that his words had caused Mu Yuze to misunderstand. Seeing that the boy was so anxious that the rims of his eyes turned red, He Juan felt his heart ache and he pulled the boy into his arms, rubbing his back in soothing motion. "I’m not going anywhere, okay? It’s just that..." he heaved out a sigh as he rested his chin on Mu Yuze’s crown. "The next few days might be a bit hectic for me, and I will not be able to come here as often. Moreover, I have been planning to find another place to stay."
He sensed Mu Yuze stiffening in his arms, but before the boy could say anything, he quickly added, "Listen, Xiao Ze. You’re an Omega now, and it would not be... appropriate for us to keep living under the same roof like this. Do you get it? People might talk, and the neighbors might look at you strangely. Don’t worry, I will find a house nearby, and I will give you a key, okay? You can drop off as often as you want, but this place will ultimately be your house."
Mu Yuze retorted softly in protest, "I don’t care what they said..."
"But I do," He Juan chuckled, a hint of helplessness in his tone. "If people start spreading rumors, it will be more detrimental to your reputation than mine. And I don’t want to see it happening. I don’t want anyone to think poorly of you."
Mu Yuze knew that He Juan was doing it for his own good. That was how the man was, always thoughtful and considerate in all aspects. He cared about Mu Yuze so much that he was unwilling to see even a bit of stain to his reputation in the future. Mu Yuze understood it very well. Nonetheless, the thought that he would lose the privilege of living with He Juan and preparing his coffee in the morning made him feel immensely displeased.
He weighed his choices, and still felt like he couldn’t care less about what those irrelevant people thought of him. "I don’t—" he had been ready to stand his claim, when warm lips suddenly pressed against his forehead, and just like that Mu Yuze forgot everything he was about to say.
He Juan eased back and coaxed him gently, "Good boy. Listen to Gege, okay?"
Mu Yuze felt like he had gotten drunk within seconds— from He Juan’s low voice, the gentleness in He Juan’s silver eyes, and the solid strength of He Juan’s arms around him. The spot where He Juan’s lips had touched was burning and tingling, making him feel weak and soft all over. He could only look at the man with dazed eyes and give a small nod.
"Good," He Juan beamed in satisfaction and ushered him into the room. "Off you go. Good night, Xiao Ze."
"Good night, Gege..." He answered in a muddle-headed manner, stumbled into his room like a robot and collapsed onto the bed face-first. The faint sound of the gate opening and closing reached his ears, followed by the distant rumble of He Juan’s departing car. Like a live wire suddenly activated, Mu Yuze kicked his legs wildly and muffled his scream into the pillow.
Oh my God, oh my God, he had just been kissed ahhh! So it was really not a dream last time! He Juan had really kissed his forehead, not only once but twice!
Did it mean that... He Juan was returning his feelings?
"No..." Mu Yuze emerged from the bed, red-faced and panting, as he tried to reason with his overheated mind. "What if he’s just doing that to coax me?" Judging from He Juan’s personality, it was something he would very likely do!
In the end, Mu Yuze replayed their interactions again and again in his mind, dissecting every word and action like an obsessive man and forgoing his sleep altogether. What a simple man he was. Just with a single kiss from He Juan, he already felt like a balloon about to burst from joy. It was as if his heart was filled with pink bubbles and fluffy cotton candy.
At that time, he still had no idea that he would come to regret this very moment, countless nights in the future. The overwhelming regret and sorrow would haunt him and keep him awake during the dead of the night, weighing on him so heavily that he couldn’t breathe.
If only... if only he had trusted his instincts more, if only he had held onto He Juan tighter, would he have been able to change the course of events that would soon occur?
