Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 459: Stubborn Mule Jia Molei
He Juan was taken aback by that question, before he promptly burst out into laughter.
Heavens, he was certain that he had concealed himself well, so how could Mu Yuze see through him so easily? This was not the first or second time. What’s more, they were not even face to face! The astonishment and mirth completely wiped away the lingering gloom in his heart, and he found himself smiling so much that his cheeks hurt. At first, He Juan contemplated telling a lie like he always did, yet for some reason, he was reluctant to do it this time. And thus he said with all honesty,
"I was, but I’m feeling better now..." he chuckled softly, "Thanks to you."
He heard a faint hitch of Mu Yuze’s breathing from the other side, then the boy stammered out, "I–I didn’t do anything, though?!"
He Juan chuckled again, warmth spreading through his chest. How was he supposed to tell Mu Yuze that he did not even need to do anything to make He Juan feel better? As long as he looked at He Juan with those dark soulful eyes of his, as long as he smiled at He Juan, or spoke one or two words, he would be able to calm He Juan like no one else could.
If he was a deranged beast on the verge of insanity, then Mu Yuze was the only tranquilizer that worked for him, who could smooth his fur with just a single stroke. He had felt this way long before Mu Yuze manifested as an Omega, and now, the impact seemed to be getting stronger and stronger.
He Juan’s ears were filled with the boy’s soft breathing. He closed his eyes and relished in it for a while, though he genuinely felt like he could listen to it forever.
He was extremely reluctant to end the call, alas he still had a lot of things to take care of. After some teasing and banter with Mu Yuze, he begrudgingly hung up on the call.
Next, he sent a simple message to Jia Molei, [The Manipulator is looking for you. Be careful.]
He had not visited Marius’ villa in the past two weeks because he was too busy running around and investigating the damned stalkers, and thus he had no idea about Jia Molei’s recovery progress. In hindsight, it was fortunate that he had not, otherwise Jia Molei’s location would be exposed. If Ku Jin were to break his way into the villa full of Alphas... He Juan could not even estimate the amount of damage that would occur.
After sending that message, He Juan drove straight to Xuanlong’s headquarters and made his way to his office. On his desk, he found the results for the background check on Captain Yi Peizhi, which he had asked his men to do. He had just taken a seat and grabbed the document when his phone rang.
He Juan picked up the call. "He—" The rest of his greeting was cut off when Jia Molei’s furious roar sounded from the other side, nearly piercing through his eardrums.
"Did that bastard do something to you?! He definitely did, didn’t he?! Fuck that son of a bitch, I’m going to..." Grimacing, He Juan kept his phone at an arm’s length and counted inside his heart. Ten, nine, eight, seven... ...three, two, one. Only then did bring the phone back to his ear again, just in time to hear Jia Molei seethe. "Why didn’t you say anything?!"
He Juan huffed out a mirthful laugh. "Are you done? Yes, he did come looking for trouble with me but," he quickly said it in one breath before Jia Molei could interrupt him. "It was nothing but a childish and annoying prank. I have taken care of it, so don’t worry about me and focus on yourself first, idiot. You know that madman is far from normal."
Jia Molei let out a disdainful harrumph, "Why should I worry about you?"
"Yes, yes," He Juan played along with a laugh. He flipped open the documents and skimmed his gaze over the paper. "Let’s not talk about him now. How are you doing?"
"Fine," Jia Molei spat out. "Isn’t it just a few broken bones?"
He Juan couldn’t help but click his tongue softly. Why was this man so hard-headed? Ku Jin had broken both of his arms and wounded him so violently, but He Juan had never heard him complain even once.
It was no longer about the pain, but also a matter of pride.
Jia Molei was such a self-sufficient and independent person, but because of Ku Jin, he had been left unable to do even the simplest task and forced to rely on others. If it were He Juan in his position, he would have gone mad and plotted to ruin Ku Jin for life. But that was not the case with Jia Molei. He had never uttered a word of complaint and continued to live his life as usual, treating this period as a vacation— or so Marius and Ye Qiu had informed him. He was such a stubborn mule that it made people feel distressed for him.
Perhaps this was why Ku Jin was so obsessed with him in the first place? For that nutcase, destroying such a strong and independent man like Jia Molei, both mentally and physically, must be fun. Especially if he could make the man submit and depend on him, unable to live without him.
Thinking up to here, the temperature in He Juan’s eyes chilled, though nothing could be detected from his voice, "Alright, I was just asking casually. You will be safe in that house, but there’s no harm in being more careful when he’s clearly out for you."
Jia Molei cursed under his breath. "That fuck—"
He Juan couldn’t help but warn him. "Careful not to be heard by the children. You don’t want them to learn bad words at such a young age, do you?"
"—fudge. He’s a dog. No, even calling him a dog is an insult to dogs!" After Jia Molei exhausted his reservoir of polite words for cursing, he finally got to the main point. "Still, I can’t stay here forever. Don’t worry, I have already arranged everything with A-Mu’s help. As soon as I can move my arms again, I will leave."
He Juan did not ask where the man’s destination was. Instead, he said, "Don’t hesitate to call me if you encounter any problems."
"I know..." This time, Jia Molei sounded awkward. He hemmed and hawed for a while, before saying. "I haven’t had the chance to say it before but... thank you for your help."
He Juan raised a brow. Jia Molei being courteous and polite like this was giving him goosebumps, as he’d preferred the man’s explosive temper. "Huh, if I knew that I would receive your thanks, I would have recorded this call beforehand." As expected, his words invited a torrent of abuse from the other. He chuckled and said in a casual tone, "Next time, just treat me to dinner."
How could such a huge favor be repaid with only dinner? XIU had practically saved his damn life! Jia Molei resolved to find some way to settle the debts between them in the future, though outwardly he pretended to reluctantly agree, "Sure, I will give you a call later."
They ended the call shortly after, and He Juan returned all his focus to the document in front of him. It was a very comprehensive background check starting from the time when Yi Peizhi was born, until the time when he emerged as the Captain of the Violent Crime Unit.
He Juan spent two full hours perusing the report, weighing carefully, before he decided that this person would do. Prime Minister Liang had not lied to him; Yi Peizhi was indeed a forthright and resolute man who was fully committed to his goals. Even amidst the murky waters of the police, he managed to emerge and prove his capabilities. He was by no means innocent. Sometimes, he would play dirty when solving cases, but none of them had crossed He Juan’s bottom line.
He needed not an innocent ally, but someone who would not hesitate to dirty their hands for the greater good. It was already enough that Liang Yuanjun was standing in the light. As for the rest of them, the darker the better. Only then could the light shine bright enough to illuminate the whole country.
With a thoughtful look, He Juan grabbed his phone and composed a new message to Liang Yuanjun.
[My apologies for the delay. I have made my decision. I can assist him, but I have one condition. I will not show my face or expose my identity, so I’d have to trouble Miss Liang to act as our intermediary. If you can fulfill my condition, then I will see it through to the end.]
A reply arrived twenty minutes later.
[Of course, that will be no problem. Thank you so much, XIU. Also, let me inform you that the new law for Omega’s rights is going to be implemented in the middle of autumn this year. You should be able to see the official news in a few weeks. I will appreciate your help when the time comes.]
HeJuan replied simply: [Understood.]
