Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 385: Suit Jacket
Moonlight spilled in through the gap of the fluttering curtain, falling on the two figures sitting on the couch. Mu Yuze leaned his head against He Juan’s shoulder, his half-lidded gaze falling on the man’s bandaged hand.
With a surge of courage that came out of nowhere, he grabbed the hand and cradled it between his, marveling at the sheer size difference between them. He Juan could easily engulf both of Mu Yuze’s hands with one of his, and for some reason, the knowledge caused his heart to race faster.
"Does it hurt?" he asked softly as he played with He Juan’s calloused yet graceful fingers, tugging them one by one while He Juan stayed still and let him do what he wanted.
"No," the man replied in a quiet voice that matched the serene atmosphere around them. "It doesn’t hurt at all."
"How can it not hurt..." Mu Yuze grumbled under his breath. Gingerly, he placed his hand on top of He Juan’s open palm and slipped his fingers in the empty gaps, and his cheeks flushed red at the intimate gesture. "I don’t like seeing you get hurt. Juan-gege, I..." he bit his lips and braced himself to say, his voice barely above a whisper, "I like you. I like you so much that I don’t know what to do..."
As soon as his words settled in the air, Mu Yuze sensed the man tensing beside him. He raised his head sharply when He Juan disentangled their fingers and stood up, with the back facing him. An unknown panic started to rise in his chest. "G–Gege..."
Without a warning, the tranquility of the weather outside shattered into pieces and a fierce storm rolled in, accompanied by booming thunder and heavy downpour. Mu Yuze reached out and held onto the man’s sleeves to prevent him to go, but then he heard He Juan say in a cold and ruthless tone,
"I can’t see you like that, Mu Yuze. It’s better if we don’t meet again in this lifetime."
"No—" Mu Yuze snapped his gaze open with a loud gasp.
Sweat poured out of his skin, turning his hair damp and clothes sticking to his skin. He spent a few seconds in a daze, with He Juan’s harsh rejection still echoing in his ears and thus it took him a while to realize that he was no longer in the building near the port, but in the room reserved only for He Juan in Jia Molei’s clinic.
What time was it...?
He raised his hand to rub the tears on his eyes, but then he paused when he saw that he was still clutching onto a familiar piece of clothing.
Mu Yuze pushed himself into a sitting position and stared at the dark blue suit jacket beside him, bewildered. Wait a moment, wasn’t this the jacket He Juan was wearing previously?
That’s right, he could even spot traces of dried blood on the lapel!
"Thought it’s about time for you to wake up."
The sudden voice caught him off guard and he raised his head to see Jia Molei leaning on the doorframe while munching on an apple. Upon seeing that Mu Yuze had noticed him, Jia Molei straightened himself and walked into the room, asking, "How do you feel? Any headache, dizziness or nausea? You got a light concussion, you know? It’s lucky that you didn’t break any ribs or else things will get so damn nasty."
However, Mu Yuze’s mind was still on the suit jacket on the bed. He felt strangely flustered at the knowledge that He Juan had left a piece of his clothing behind. It made him recall the content of his dream earlier and filled him with sinking dread. Even then, he did not show it on his face as he asked, "Where is Ju— I mean, where is Boss?"
Jia Molei clicked his tongue, "Of course it would be the first thing you asked." He bit into the apple with a crisp crunching sound, took his sweet time to chew and swallow it before he answered, "Don’t worry, brat. He will be back soon. Just taking care of the mess last night." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
His gaze fell on the dark blue jacket that stood out in contrast against the light colored sheets, and a chuckle slipped off his lips, "Seeing how you were clinging onto him so tight, I’m quite surprised that he could still leave you behind to work."
Relief flooded his heart at the notion that He Juan had not really abandoned him, that he would still come back later. But no sooner than the relief came in, it was replaced by sheer embarrassment and shame.
’Oh God...’ Mu Yuze closed his eyes as he felt his ears exploding in warmth. His fingers curled around the hem of He Juan’s jacket as he brought it closer to himself like it was a protective shield. He had been... what? Clinging onto He Juan? It was just last night that he acknowledged his ardent feelings for the man and here he was, already acting out of line!
Mu Yuze took a peek at the doctor, his heart thumping uneasily. Jia Molei couldn’t have realized anything... right?
Jia Molei poured a glass of water and handed it to him, which he accepted gingerly. "You don’t need to look at me like that. It’s natural for you to be terrified. After all, it’s not everyday that you get to be kidnapped and witnessed such a grotesque sight from the front row seat. It’s also due to XIU’s negligence so it’s only right for him to take responsibility for it."
Mu Yuze blinked as he sipped on the water to moisten his parched throat. It seemed like Jia Molei had misunderstood the source of his apprehension, but he made no attempt to correct it. He could finally breathe a sigh of relief when he saw that the doctor had not noticed anything. The last thing he ever wanted was an acquaintance finding out about his inappropriate feelings toward He Juan.
"What time is it now?" Mu Yuze asked after he composed himself.
"Two pm," Jia Molei said, and Mu Yuze showed a look of surprise. He had been unconscious for more than half a day. "So how are you feeling now?"
After a brief re-examination to make sure that he had no lingering symptoms, Jia Molei brought him a simple lunch and fed him a dose of anti-fever and anti-inflammatory medicine, then ordered him to rest. The doctor went out soon after, presumably checking on his other patients, leaving Mu Yuze with the company of his own thoughts.
He lay sideways on the bed and ran his hand over the smooth material of He Juan’s jacket, and before he knew it, he brought the jacket closer to his nose and sniffed it, relishing in the unique scent that still lingered on the clothes.
This scent... it must be He Juan’s pheromones, right? Mu Yuze couldn’t put a name on it. He only knew that it smelled divine and offered him a comfort like no other. Feeling that it was still not enough, he had just wanted to drape the jacket over himself when he heard a set of familiar footsteps he had known by heart echoing outside the door.
His eyes immediately flew wide. It was He Juan!
Panic arose in his chest as if he was going to be caught doing something he shouldn’t do, and he did the first thing that came to mind – pretend to sleep!
His eyelids fell shut as the door swung open soundlessly in the next second.
