Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 384: Heartbreaking Love
He Juan collected himself so fast that it made Mu Yuze wonder if that was how all adults behaved or if it was just how the man really was.
When he loosened his arms around Mu Yuze and pulled back, there was none of the signs that he had lost control of his emotions earlier, if not for the thin red veins in his eyes that could be mistaken due to the lack of sleep.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean to..." he whispered, slightly ashamed at his momentary lapse of control. "Does it hurt?" His beautiful silver eyes were filled with remorse as they landed on each injured part of Mu Yuze’s body, wishing for nothing but to bear all of them on the boy’s behalf.
It hurt. Of course it did. He Juan had hugged him so tight that he was certain to feel the ghost of the touch lingering on his skin for days. But he pressed his lips tight and shook his head, because the shocking revelation of his feelings had triumphed over the pain and he could not focus on anything other than He Juan’s gaze on him and the wild pulse of his heartbeat.
He had known early on that for him, He Juan was a special existence who could not be replaced by anything else in this world. But he did not expect that he would be so brazen as to harbor such an... ardent feeling for the man.
Oh, Mu Yuze knew what it meant. He had seen a lot of his – former – classmates engaged in secret relationships, sneaking shy glances at each other on the hallways, exchanging love letters, or holding hands in an empty classroom. The budding romance of a youth would always be associated with innocence and hope, the thrill and passion of experiencing such emotions for the first time, tinged with a sense of naivety and optimism.
Mu Yuze had seen a lot of such cases with his peers, but he could never connect it with himself because... it was different, very different for him. He had never expected that his first love would feel this... intense... this painful and heartbreaking.
For he knew that these tender feelings, the admiration and passion he felt for the man, it was fated to remain unrequited forever.
How could such a wonderful Alpha like He Juan ever consider him, a scrawny and ugly orphan whom he had taken in out of kindness, when he could have all the beautiful and exquisite omegas in the world?
In He Juan’s eyes, what he felt must be no more than a puppy love.
He wanted to shrink and hide under He Juan’s stare, only to pause when he caught sight of the blood and small pieces of glass still embedded on the man’s palm. Gasping, he carefully held it as if it was a cracked porcelain, "Your hand..."
But He Juan brushed him off carelessly, "It’s not important. Speaking of which, you—" he abruptly choked on his words when he saw droplets of tears falling from Mu Yuze’s eyes again like a string of pearls. He instantly panicked, "X–Xiao Ze..."
Mu Yuze sniffled. He did not know why he couldn’t seem to stop his tears either. Perhaps it was due to looming heartbreak over his unrequited love, or perhaps he was distressed seeing the bloody cuts on this precious hand. "I–It’s not not important..." he said amidst the hiccups. "You have to... get it treated..."
"Okay, okay, I will," He Juan hastily said to comfort him. "I will get it treated later, okay?"
When He Juan made no attempt to move, Mu Yuze bawled even harder, letting out all the tears he had not shed during the fourteen years of hardship in his life and perhaps even the portion for the years to come. He cried until he couldn’t quite catch his breath, until his head throbbed in pain and he began to sway on his feet.
"Mu Yuze!" He Juan caught him in time before he could crash to the ground.
Fuzzily, he saw He Juan grab the phone that was fortunately within reach and holler to the other end, "Get over here! NOW!" But then his vision was turning more and more blurry, and sluggishness dragged behind his sore eyelids. He Juan’s voice sounded extremely distant in his ears, "It’s okay, it’s okay. You will be okay. Good boy, just hang on a little more..."
Mu Yuze tried to part his lips, to say that he was fine, that he only needed a little rest so He Juan did not need to worry about him. Alas, no words came out of his mouth.
His limbs became heavy as if they were ladened with lead, and the last thing he registered before everything turned dark was the comforting sensation of He Juan’s arms around him and the press of something warm and soft on his temple.

Jia Molei almost had a heart attack when he burst in through the door and saw He Juan cradling the unconscious boy in his arms. From their position, he could not gauge Mu Yuze’s condition and his gaze immediately zeroed in on the blood on the back of the boy’s clothes where He Juan was holding onto him.
His furious voice thundered in the room, "What the fuck have you done to him?!!"
His heart sank to the pit of his stomach as intense guilt gutted him like a vicious stab of knife through his middle. He had known that XIU was in a very volatile mood, but he still sent the boy to him! What was the difference between this and feeding a plump rabbit to a wolf’s starving mouth?! If something really happened to Mu Yuze...
"Doctor Jia, he—"
Ignoring He Juan’s words, he immediately rushed in and rescued Mu Yuze out of He Juan’s arms, but then something stopped him. He dropped his gaze and paused when he saw the boy clutching onto He Juan’s sleeves in a tight grip even in his unconscious state, as if fearing that the man would disappear if he were to let go.
"—he cried so hard that he fainted," He Juan finished his sentence with a helpless look. He reached out to wipe the tears on Mu Yuze’s cheek, careful so as to not aggravate the bruises on his skin.
Jia Molei was gobsmacked, "Then the blood..." his gaze trailed to He Juan’s bloodied hand where the cuts were, and understanding finally dawned on him. "Goddamnit," he gritted out a curse, almost collapsing out of relief. "I thought you landed your hands on him..."
Next, he summoned a few men to clean up the broken glass in the room and went to check on Mu Yuze’s condition first and foremost. After confirming that the boy merely passed out of exhaustion, he proceeded to treat the wounds on He Juan’s hand. He did not hold back at all when he pulled out the fragments of glass, causing the man to hiss and grunt in pain once in a while.
"You fucking deserved it," he sneered. "Who told you to make him cry so much?"
He Juan made no attempt to defend himself, while his lips twisted into a wry smile. He lowered his gaze to look at the sleeping boy in his arms. "He told me that he wanted to stay..." he murmured in daze, still in a state of disbelief. Then he raised his head and asked the man in front of him, "Despite seeing what I have done... despite knowing my violent nature, he still insists on staying by my side. Is that possible, Doctor Jia?"
Seeing the rare look of vulnerability in He Juan’s eyes, the stifling anger in Jia Molei’s heart immediately dissipated like a small flame doused by a bucket of icy water and his expression softened by a fraction. But then he hurriedly caught himself and snorted,
"Who knows? Let’s see if he will change his mind when he wakes up later."
