Chapter 380: Are You Afraid?

"Unstable?" Mu Yuze echoed the unfamiliar word which he could never associate with He Juan, feeling a strange pang deep within his heart. "Why?"

Jia Molei let out a sigh while pinching his brows. He had no idea how to word it so that Mu Yuze could understand. But then, he suddenly felt weird talking about such a topic in the dingy and smelly storage room with dead fishes all over the floor and two bodies that were better off dead. Thus he shook his head and said, "Let’s not talk about this here. Can you stand up? I need to have a better look on your head to make sure whether you have a fucking concussion or not."

Mu Yuze nodded and tried to stand up, but then his legs abruptly gave up beneath him and he sat on the ground again. "Huh...?" he blinked, taken aback.

It took him one full second to realize that on top of the pain and exhaustion, he was also feeling cold, so cold that he could no longer feel his toes. His teeth were chattering and goosebumps crawled over his exposed skin caressed by the chilly breeze. He could not even muster the strength to stand properly.

"Of course not. Look at what kind of stupid question I was asking," Jia Molei clicked his tongue and offered his hand. "Come on."

With the doctor’s help, Mu Yuze finally stepped out of the storage room located on the belly of the ship.

The light was dim in this area with the only source coming from the flickering light bulbs above his head that looked older than a century. In every turn and corner, he could find a man standing guard as they vigilantly checked out the surroundings. They did not bat an eyelid as two of them walked by. Mu Yuze recognized one of them as the man who had driven him and He Juan to the hospital for an eye examination.

Jia Molei slowly helped him to ascend the wooden creaky stairs and he could finally see the full appearance of the ship for the first time. It was medium in size and seemed to belong to a fisherman, if the tools he had seen along the way was any indication. Mu Yuze had no idea when the ship was docked on the port because he was fairly sure that he was still in the middle of the ocean when he woke up. The smell of saltwater and fish assaulted his nose, and the rain was still going on strong, lapping against the side of the ship and drenching the wooden planks beneath his feet.

Through the rows of crates and barrels stacked neatly on the deck, he caught sight of the Brute Man surrounded by a few people who took turns to beat him up, with the leader being Chen Youzhi.

Come to think of it, Mu Yuze did not see him anywhere in the storage room so he must have seized the chance to escape somehow. It was fortunate that the man was caught in the end, otherwise He Juan would need to expend more effort and manpower to hunt him down.

Mu Yuze tore his gaze away and sneezed. Seeing that, Jia Molei took the umbrella that a man offered and used it to shield Mu Yuze’s head to prevent him from being drenched.

They finally disembarked from the ship, yet Mu Yuze felt kinda wobbly when his feet stepped on the hard ground. For some reason, he could still feel the buoyancy and it was making his head spin.

Fortunately, he did not have to walk for long because a car soon stopped in front of them and took them to a four-story building a few hundred meters away. Mu Yuze held back his questions as he was led inside one of the rooms on the first floor. When the doctor went to flick on the light, he found that it was a small clinic room with two beds and a cabinet full of medicines.

"Sit," Jia Molei pressed him down to one of the beds. He gathered a thick heated blanket around Mu Yuze and draped a large towel over his head, finally offering him a little warmth amidst the relentless chill.

Someone knocked on the door just then, and Jia Molei went to answer it only to return with a tray of warm milk and a plate of soft cookies. Only then did Mu Yuze realize that he had not eaten all day, but he did not even feel hungry right now. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Jia Molei handed him the cup. "Can you hold it?"

Mu Yuze tried to, but when he stretched out his hand, the muscles on his shoulders burned and he let out a muffled grunt of pain.

"Of course not," Jia Molei grumbled under his breath. Mu Yuze was forced to swallow his protest as the doctor dipped the cookies into the warm milk and shoved it into his mouth. "Even if you’re not hungry, try to eat something to pad your stomach. XIU will kill me if he finds out that you have been starved."

The mention of He Juan’s nickname made Mu Yuze recall the grotesque scene that had happened in the storage room and his stomach flipped lightly. Still, he forced himself to swallow and sipped on the warm milk. The nerve-wracking chill began to leave him soon after.

As the doctor started to clean the blood on his face with cotton alcohol and inspect his injuries, Mu Yuze took the opportunity to ask, "Those men outside... they are all Boss’ subordinates, aren’t they?"

Jia Molei scoffed. "Why are you asking something you already know, brat?" He cursed again when he finally saw the severity of the bruise blooming on Mu Yuze’s cheek. "Fuck, they’re all fucking animals. Tell me if it hurts."

Mu Yuze silently gritted his teeth as Jia Molei started to dab medicine on his cheeks, nose and lips. He had no idea how hard the doctor would curse when he found the bruise on the side of Mu Yuze’s body where he was kicked by the Injured Man. Even now, it was still throbbing in pain.

"Boss..." Mu Yuze continued to ask, unable to help himself. "He’s a... mobster... right?"

Again, Jia Molei gave him the same complicated look as he did back in the storage room. He clicked his tongue and went back to tending to Mu Yuze’s wounds. "I know he’s going to hide some things from you, but I didn’t expect that you didn’t even know the basics. What the fuck is that idiot thinking? Playing house?"

’So that was a yes,’ Mu Yuze thought. He already had an inkling about it since the trip to the hospital, but to hear the doctor confirm it, as expected, he was still a little shocked.

"What?" Jia Molei cast him a subtle glance. "Are you afraid of him now? You should be," his lips tilted into a wry smile. "That man can get a little terrifying when he’s provoked."

All of a sudden, Mu Yuze recalled a question He Juan had asked him months ago, when they had just started to know each other — "One day, will you come to dread my presence?"

At first, he thought that it had something to do with the prowess belonging only to superior Alpha, but it seemed like there had been a deeper meaning to He Juan’s sentence. Those cold and detached silver eyes crossed his mind yet again, so different from the gentle gaze that always radiate warmth, and Mu Yuze found himself wondering,

Was he afraid?
