Chapter 180: Later...

"My past..." He Juan squeezed a smile on his face which he hoped would not look too forced. "If you’re talking about things from more than seven years ago, then... no. I haven’t recalled any of it."

"Oh..." Su Xieren did not show much reaction aside from nodding, as if it did not bother him whether He Juan remembered or not.

This – this kind of placid acceptance that was nine points indifferent – was the kind of reaction He Juan needed the most, much to his own surprise. In normal circumstances, there could only be three reactions toward He Juan’s reply; it could either be sympathy, disappointment or relief.

If Su Xieren had shown sympathy and said that he was sorry, He Juan was sure it would have made him feel quite awful because hey, he had learned to live on without those memories. It was not easy but he did it. He had walked away from the past and learned not to dwell too much on it. Saying sorry to him would only mean that his effort all these years was not recognized. Aside from Jia Molei, Su Xieren was the one who had stayed by his side the longest. He had practically accompanied He Juan through his worst days. Thus, Su Xieren would not sympathize with him, simply because there was nothing to be sorry about. The same went with disappointment. Exactly because Su Xieren had witnessed how he struggled to get on his feet that he would not be disappointed with He Juan.

As for relief, it was even more impossible. Wouldn’t it be downright heartless for him to react like that? After all, no matter how He Juan tried to downplay it, there was still a tiny, tiny bit of hope inside his heart that he could regain his memory someday. Especially after his encounter with the blue-eyed man...

He Juan knew very well that he was being fussy. That’s why Su Xieren’s reaction was the best. He Juan did not know how he did it, but he always had a way to make people feel at ease around him. Or perhaps, that was just how he really was.

The tension in He Juan’s shoulders loosened and his smile became more genuine. "Thank you, Xieren..."

Su Xieren’s expression was blank. "What are you thanking me for?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

It was really too abstract to be explained. He Juan scratched his cheek sheepishly. "Everything. For everything you have done for me... I really can’t thank you enough."

Su Xieren got visible shudders when he heard this. "Alright, stop being so sappy. Don’t forget your schedule." He pointed at the laminated sheet in He Juan’s hand. "If you need something, press the emergency button and a nurse will attend to you."

"Okay," He Juan replied, amused. "You too... if there is any urgent news from outside, please inform me, okay?"

Nothing could be discerned from Su Xieren’s face as he patted He Juan on the shoulder. "Don’t worry about it, focus on your own recovery first."

He sent Su Xieren off with a wave before turning to enter the room again. Closing the door behind him, he raised his head and his gaze instantly collided with Mu Yuze’s dark ones. The omega had foregone his sleep and was leaning against the bed as he fiddled with the blanket, waiting for He Juan to come back. The sunlight from the window fell upon his side profile, making it seem as if he was shrouded in a faint golden halo.

It was fortunate that He Juan was no longer connected to the heartbeat monitor otherwise Mu Yuze would discover that his heart was beating like crazy again. Exactly how could this man look so ethereal bathed in the morning glow?

"Gege..." he called out softly, his gaze searing and intrusive as he scanned He Juan up and down.

"You..." He wanted to ask whether He Juan still got nightmares last night and whether he still felt discomfort on his head. However, his sentence was cut off short when He Juan abruptly stride forward to drop a kiss on his forehead.

"Good morning, Precious." He chuckled softly against Mu Yuze’s forehead and added, "...I love you."

He Juan remembered everything that had transpired last night, as well as how he had cursed himself for not treating his omega well. This was the first time He Juan experienced how it felt to ’forget’ and ’remember’ again, and it was something he could not put into words. Alas, he had given his promise after all, and he would only be a bastard if he did not fulfill it. From now on, he was going to tell Mu Yuze how he loved him, as many times as he could, until Mu Yuze got sick of it.

Mu Yuze’s eyes quietly widened. Breathing quickening in pace, he peered up at He Juan with such a hopeful look that He Juan felt his heart melting all over again. "You..." his voice was shaky with emotions. "You remembered?"

He Juan knocked their foreheads together and cupped Mu Yuze’s cheek gently. "Of course, silly," he said softly. "How could I possibly forget you?"

Mu Yuze’s lips parted. You did... he wanted to say. You have already forgotten me once. Alas, it was not like he could say it to He Juan out loud. After all, he could tell that He Juan had not regained all of his memory yet. Otherwise, there was no way he would treat Mu Yuze so gently like this...

As such, he swallowed the lump on his throat and hooked his arms around He Juan’s neck, hugging him, so he could hide the tears that had gathered on his eyes. "That’s good," he uttered in a raspy voice. "It’s good that you are recovering..."

He Juan nuzzled his nose below Mu Yuze’s ear, inhaling the alluring scent that belonged only to him. "It’s all thanks to you." Then he drew back and told Mu Yuze seriously, "Next time – if there is a next time – don’t ever attempt something so dangerous, okay? Run as far away as you can from me. I..." his gaze flicked to the bandage around Mu Yuze’s neck before returning to his eyes again. "I don’t want to hurt you again... understand?"

Mu Yuze mutedly nodded his head. As for what he would do next time, well... he could only whisper his apology to He Juan in advance.

"Good." He Juan’s lips curved, satisfied. He climbed into the bed and let Mu Yuze snuggle against him, his fingers gently ruffling through the omega’s fluffy hair. "It’s still early. Why don’t you sleep again?"

"Can’t," Mu Yuze’s voice was muffled from where his face was buried into He Juan’s chest. "I’m not sleepy anymore." There was a second pause before he called out, "Gege."

"Hmm?" He Juan glanced down. But from his position, all he could see was the hair whorl on top of Mu Yuze’s head as well as the fair expanse of his nape covered by the tip of his hair. "What’s wrong, Xiao Ze?"

Crimson flush suffused into Mu Yuze’s earlobes. His words came out in a stuttering halt. "Later... when you are discharged from the hospital later, will you... give me a mark?"
