Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 171: What A Late Bloomer!
Wu Yuan slumped on the table, his breathing uneven. He had been feeling unwell for the past few hours – to be exact, ever since he woke up and found that his entire world had been turned upside down.
There was this knot of anxiety on his stomach, sending persistent waves of nausea throughout his whole body. His limbs felt weak and he kept breaking out in cold sweat. He thought that it was normal psychological reactions after being put in a highly-stressed environment and it would be fine if he endured it for some time. Hence, he had not even bothered with it.
But it was different now. Very different.
Not only did his limbs feel weak, the joints in his entire body grew extremely sore as if someone had poured acidic liquid on it. His heart had never raced so fast before, it was as if it was going to jump out of his ribcage. His teeth were chattering from the cold, yet he could somehow perceive an unfamiliar heat rising within him.
Wu Yuan had gotten used to being beaten up and carrying injuries on his body all the time. Yet right now, the pain he was feeling was a totally different kind altogether. It was agonizing. Excruciating. The wild pulse on his heart was quickly spreading until his entire body became a huge ball of throbbing mess, causing his body to twitch and spasm. Hot and sharp pain stabbed into his head without mercy – no, to be exact, it was the back of his neck. It hurt so much...!!
He could fuzzily perceive the officer in front of him rising from his seat. The screech of the chair being dragged across the floor echoed harshly in his ears, it was like someone was scratching their sharp nails on a blackboard right beside him. With much difficulty, he cracked his eyes open and screamed out loud, "Help... Help me...!"
He felt like he had expended all of his strength just for that one shout. But in fact, his voice sounded so weak, so feeble that it might as well go unnoticed.
The officer went to the door to welcome the medical personnel. Yet as soon as he opened the door, a faint smoky scent drifted out and floated in the air. Utterly unaware, the officer was still shouting, "Where is the medical team?! I think he has gone into shock!"
The Alphas who passed through the hallway instantly halted in their tracks and sniffed around. Then they hollered angrily, "Hey, who is it? Keep your pheromones under control, for God’s sake! Are you asking for a fight?!"
The door to the control room slammed open and Captain Rong charged out. He gave an order to the officer who interrogated Wu Yuan with a booming voice, "Close the door! He is manifesting!"
"Wha—" The officer was dumbfounded for a split second before he hastily scampered out of the room and closed the door behind him. Immediately, the smoky scent was cut off. But it would not last long. As soon as the smell got stronger, it would definitely be noticed by the Alphas and Omegas around the perimeter. It was fortunate that the gender this place lacked the most was omega, otherwise the scale of chaos Wu Yuan brought forth would be unimaginable!
The officer’s heart was still thumping as he leaned his back against the door. "He... He is manifesting?" He asked Captain Rong, stunned. "Isn’t he sixteen years old already? And he is just manifesting now? What a late bloomer!"
Captain Rong’s face was gloomy. There was no problem with late manifestation. Indeed it was quite rare because normally youngsters would manifest during the age of eight to fourteen, but it was not like such cases had not happened before. But the main problem was... there were still traces of AX-03 in Wu Yuan’s body!
It was common knowledge that the manifestation period would last one to five days depending on which secondary gender that person would turn into – whether it was Alpha or Omega, weak or ordinary or superior. During this period, they would experience the symptoms of severe cold such as high fever, dizziness, nausea and so on. They only needed to make sure that they would not be dehydrated and everything would be fine. It would be even better if they could have their parents’ pheromones to accompany them throughout. It would give them another layer of security and eased their suffering by a whole lot.
Alas, not only did Wu Yuan not have parents to guide him, he had also consumed AX-03 that would cause an Alpha’s pheromones to go berserk if the amount exceeded a certain threshold! What if something went wrong with Wu Yuan’s manifestation? Captain Rong had lived for so long but he had never heard someone who survived after failing to manifest!
If something went wrong with Wu Yuan’s manifestation, then... there was a high possibility that the little guy would die!
Thinking up to here, he immediately moved to give orders, "Prepare the car! We have to take Wu Yuan to the hospital!"
"What’s wrong?" Li Zhi asked, startled, when he noticed the gravity in Captain Rong’s face. He was a single Beta so he naturally lacked common knowledge of anything pertaining to the manifestation period.
Captain Rong explained the severity of the matter to him in a few concise sentences and soon after, his face went as dark as the bottom of the pot.
An emergency announcement was made throughout the Bureau, informing Alphas and Omegas (if there was any) to enter the nearest room and stay there for a while until further notice. When it was repeated for the third time, the police car was parked downstairs and ready to go.
Subsequently, a muscular Beta officer from the Narcotics Division entered the interrogation room and carried Wu Yuan out in his arms. By this time, the little guy was no longer lucid and his skin had red patches all over as if he was developing rashes.
Only Captain Rong followed behind the Beta officer and Wu Yuan, whereas Li Zhi and the others would stay to maintain order and explain their predicament to Director Zhang.
What were the odds that their biggest link would be down when the case was in its critical period? Li Zhi’s expression turned grave when various possibilities flashed through his mind. He had no concrete evidence, but unfortunately, he had never believed in coincidence. He had a hunch that... Wu Yuan’s manifestation had been carefully calculated by whoever was behind the scenes! If that was the case... then how terrifying would that be?
Downstairs, Captain Rong got into the shotgun seat while the Beta officer and Wu Yuan cramped into the passenger seat. After confirming that Wu Yuan was firmly strapped with a seatbelt, Captain Rong patted the little officer beside him. "We have to send this little guy to the Pheromones Department!"
The little officer answered loudly, "Replying to Captain Rong, there is only one hospital with Pheromones Department in Yuyang, and that’s Yuyang Hospital Center!"
Captain Rong nodded firmly, "Drive there!"
The police car drove out of City Bureau at the highest speed, its red and blue siren flashing brightly as it cleaved through the early morning traffic, bringing with it the arrival of a storm toward Yuyang Hospital Center.
