Chapter 165: A Monster Like Me

Fortunately, the entire medical team was already on standby. As soon as He Juan gave his approval, they immediately did a full body check-up on the two patients. When the storm subsided at long last, dawn had already broken through the horizon and streaks of brilliant golden and blue painted across the sky.

Miraculously, Mu Yuze’s condition was not too bad despite his ghastly appearance. Aside from his inflamed gland and the bruises around his neck, he did not sustain any other injuries. His weakness could entirely be attributed to the fact that he had been exposed to He Juan’s savage pheromones and released too much of his own. But this could easily be treated with medicine, nutritious IV drips and and a lot of rest.

It was really such a relief that no real damage was done to his gland. Under normal circumstances, omegas would have been torn apart by the intensity of He Juan’s murderous aura. But not only could Mu Yuze come out intact under the siege, he also managed to bring He Juan back to his senses... it was simply a miracle!

Alas, with the lack of samples, they could only associate it to the fact that the two of them were true mates. There must be a reason why true mates were so rare that they could only be found once or twice in a century. Up until now, the technology in the medical field was not advanced enough to solve this profound mystery.

He Juan, on the other hand, was in a very bad shape.

Not to mention the AX-03 in his system, he had also overexerted his gland when he released all those oppressive pheromones. However, He Juan’s case was a little different from others as he had once suffered from traumatic brain injury. The fact that he had been drugged, coupled with his aggressive release of pheromones, had caused his brain to show mild signs of swelling, especially the spot where he had been injured before.

Jia Molei studied the CT scan results with an ugly look on his face. Forget about the drug, now that He Juan had come to his senses, they had to take care of his brain first. The longer this went on, he was afraid that He Juan would not only mess up his current memory, but another complication such as vision loss, seizures and difficulty speaking would occur as well.

As such, He Juan was immediately pushed into the ICU for further observation. Patients like him needed a lot of rest, it was even better if he could sleep for three days straight and let his body heal on its own.

But here comes the real problem.

He Juan could not fall asleep. Or to be exact, he was unwilling to close his eyes.

Each time, he would always be woken up by nightmares after a few short minutes of rest. Looking at his increasing blood pressure level, Jia Molei’s forehead throbbed in pain. In the end, the group of doctors convened a meeting and came to an unilateral decision to place He Juan close to his mate, at least where he could easily see him at a glance. As a result, Mu Yuze, this perfectly healthy patient, was pushed into the ICU as well.

They hoped that the presence of his true mate would be able to calm He Juan’s paranoia.

That’s why as soon as Mu Yuze woke up and turned his head, what he saw was He Juan who was staring blankly at him with a respirator on his face. Their beds were almost placed side by side with only the space of half a person in between. Thus, Mu Yuze was directly met with He Juan’s unfathomable silver eyes, causing any drowsiness to dissipate from his system in a flash. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"He Juan...?" Mu Yuze called out in a daze, his heart racing like a drum. The memory of the previous event crashed back to him and he was deeply afraid that everything he was seeing right now was nothing more than a pipe dream. However, the pain that shot through his neck once he tried to raise his head, brought him back to his senses.

T–This was not a dream! The one looking at him right now... it was He Juan in the flesh!

He... had really succeeded in bringing He Juan back?

Mu Yuze was so dumbfounded that he forgot to check his own condition and could only stare at He Juan foolishly.

He Juan saw that the omega suddenly raised his head only to shudder in pain. Then he gingerly reached out to pat him on the head and gently push him back to the pillow. "... Don’t get up, you are injured," he said, his voice hoarse and slightly muffled coming from the respirator.

When his gaze landed on Mu Yuze’s neck that was wrapped in thick gauze, he quickly lowered his eyes to hide the remorse and guilt within.

"You... You’re okay now?" Mu Yuze stumbled on his words.

"Mn," came his soft answer. "It’s thanks to you..."

Mu Yuze could not take his eyes off He Juan. He greedily took in the man’s appearance; his soft yet messy long hair, his composed state and most importantly, his beautiful silver eyes. Those eyes no longer held the same brutality and cold violence, and Mu Yuze was so delighted that the rims of his eyes turned red. He could not control the little quirk on the corner of his lips.

But halfway through, he suddenly froze and carefully inspected He Juan once again.

He could tell that something was different about the man in front of him, but he simply could not put his finger on it. When he noticed that He Juan had been staring at his neck, he subconsciously reached out and touched the thick gauze.

Oh. Mu Yuze’s eyes flashed in realization. He had no idea how severe his wounds were, but judging from the stiffness on his neck as well as the burning sensation on his gland, he could guess that it must have been quite severe. No wonder Juan-gege looked so remorseful...

He abruptly recalled something and his lashes trembled. "My gland... is it damaged?" He held his breath sharply as he waited for the answer.

Utter fear and anxiety tangled into a huge lump on his throat, choking the breath on his lungs. He had been so determined when he tore off his gland patch earlier, but it was not until now he realized how apprehensive he was. He still wanted to become He Juan’s mate, especially now that he discovered that the bond they had was unique and extraordinary. One of a kind.

He was really, really unwilling to give up on the chance to stand by He Juan’s side...

"No..." He Juan answered, barely in a whisper as he reached out to wipe the moisture on the corner of Mu Yuze’s eyes. But before his hand could touch the omega, he suddenly jerked back and kept his hand firmly clenched by his side. A hint of smile appeared on the corner of his lips, bitter and sorrowful. "I’m sorry... you still have to be connected with a monster like me..."
