Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 160: At Worst
Mu Yuze still had not snapped out of his daze even when he stood in front of the hallway leading to the confinement room. He barely responded with a nod when Su Xieren told him, "This is as far as I can go. If I take a step closer, da-ge will definitely take it as a provocation. Don’t worry, as soon as he shows signs of violence, I will immediately drag you out."
"No need..." Mu Yuze shook his head. He was firm with his beliefs, not in himself but in He Juan – in the Alpha he loved. "Juan-gege will never hurt me."
Su Xieren opened his mouth to say something, but when he looked at the steel-like resolution in Mu Yuze’s eyes, he finally swallowed his words back to his stomach. Whatever... he was confident that he could rescue Mu Yuze in time anyway.
"Good luck," he told the omega.
Mu Yuze nodded in thanks before walking to the confinement room, stopping right in front of the door.
He took a deep inhale of the scent of rosewood and whiskey that was overpowering in the air. It was sharp, oppressive and tinged with a hint of bloodlust. Mu Yuze was starting to feel a prickle of pain on his scent gland. And this was on the account that he had not stepped into the room yet...
How...?
It was clearly the same scent he had gotten familiar with, the same scent that had gotten him drunk and intoxicated until he could not get enough. But right now... its offensive nature was a stark contrast to the warm and loving pheromones that had wrapped around him not too long ago. Exactly how did everything turn out like this?
To think that just a few hours ago, they were still cuddling in his nest with He Juan’s arms around him, so indulgent and doting as he allowed Mu Yuze to lick his gland. But in a blink of an eye, here they were, separated by the thick door that was akin to an insurmountable rift he could not cross through...
Mu Yuze felt a lump forming on his throat. ’I am Juan-gege’s true mate...’ he told himself again and again. ’The kind that can only be found in one among ten thousand pairs.’
As soon as this thought flashed through his mind, he was able to stand a little straighter against these bloodthirsty pheromones.
He still could not believe it when the result came out. There was a little nagging doubt in the back of his mind that Su Xieren might have gotten it wrong. That it was only a coincidence that he and Juan-gege got their heat and rut on the same day. Otherwise, why wouldn’t Juan-gege tell him anything? He must not have believed it too.
When you have been yearning for something for too long... when you are convinced that you can only spend your lifetime longing for it, only for people to tell you that it has been yours all along, the first instinct you have is to think that they are lying to you. That was the case with Mu Yuze too.
The test result had shown 100% compatibility between his and He Juan’s pheromones. Moreover, Doctor Tang had also told him that the possibility of their compatibility exceeding 100% was very high. After all, this number was only the highest threshold that could be measured by the machine. Nobody knew the limit of affinity for true mates because of how rare they were.
Still... there was a small dark voice within him, whispering, ’Everyone will leave you in the end... even your beloved gege. Hasn’t he done it once before?’
Every time this voice surfaced in his mind, he would find himself feeling so small. So insecure and fragile. Because deep down, he knew that it was right. Everyone would leave him and... he would always be alone. Again. And that’s why he did not dare to believe in destiny. He did not dare to believe that... he could have Juan-gege all for himself. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Clenching his fists, he forced himself to shake off those useless thoughts. This was not the time to wallow in self-misery. He was an omega with a mission and right now, nothing was more important than He Juan.
He had been longing to go to Juan-gege’s side since he heard the headline news and... if He Juan wanted to ruin his gland and tear his flesh apart, then so be it.
As long as the last thing he saw in this world was He Juan, then it was worth the suffering.
Mu Yuze reached out to press the button in front of hin, the tips of his fingers shaking ever so slightly.
And when the door finally slid open, he reflexively reached out to hold onto the frame, gasping as if the breath had been punched out of him. This... This intense, overwhelming and crushing pressure... it was really no joke!
Realizing that he should not let the door open for long, Mu Yuze dragged himself inside and slammed the door close behind him. Alas, he had not even breathed a sigh of relief yet when the deluge of pheromones in the air instantly solidified and concentrated on him like the formation of thousands of deadly swords, ready to fall and chop him to pieces at any second.
Mu Yuze’s face went pale and his knees trembled. The pain on his gland was getting sharper and sharper. His chest heaved violently. It was like there was no oxygen left in the room, making it hard for him to breathe.
Even then, the thought of giving up did not even cross his mind.
He raised his head and gasped when he met He Juan’s eyes through the strands of his tousled long hair that was damp with sweat. Those beautiful eyes were cold, rimmed red on the edges and filled with nothing but brutal violence. They were staring straight at Mu Yuze as if... as if looking at an inanimate object. As if looking at a... corpse.
No... Juan-gege, he... he doesn’t recognize me...
Mu Yuze felt stinging behind his eyes, but he stubbornly refused to let his tears fall. He did not want to cry. He must not. Not even when his heart was cracking under this detached and cold gaze. "Juan-gege..." he could hear his own voice calling out oh so softly, quivering as if it was going to crumble the next second.
But He Juan was unmoved.
Mu Yuze’s pupils trembled. No, this... this was not how it was supposed to be. His Alpha... his salvation, the man he loved... he was the kindest and gentlest soul. He was a man who would choose to hurt himself rather than others. This was not Juan-gege. Mu Yuze bit the tip of his tongue to sober himself up. He had to wake He Juan up. He had to do something – anything...!
Mu Yuze started to move from the door. His movement was careful, tentative, as he tried to be as steady as possible. With every step he took, the fiery corrosive pain on his gland increased. It was like someone had used a jagged, dull knife to saw away at his flesh on his neck. It was so painful that every inch of his soul was screaming in agony.
The cell in his entire body was screaming at him to turn away and run away. Run! Run... before this person rips you apart!
But Mu Yuze ignored it. He ignored his body’s subconscious instinct to flee and braced himself to take one step after another to his most important person.
Until the end when he arrived by He Juan’s bedside, he felt like there were countless arrows stuck on every inch of his body, grinding and spinning, each move flaying out a piece of flesh still dripping with blood.
But so what?
So what if this person ripped him apart? So what if he was ruined beyond repair? At worst, he would just continue to linger in this mortal world as his ghost.
He stared into He Juan’s cold eyes and the corner of his lips curved upward into a heartbreaking smile.
"He Juan..." he could only utter that precious name once before he choked and coughed, blood welling up on his throat.
