Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 153: Dreading Terror
Seeing that the situation was rapidly spiraling out of control, Li Zhi clapped his hands and loudly said, "Alright! Right now, we have to focus on catching the culprit of this murder crime. If Wu Yuan is telling the truth, then it’s been confirmed that Wu Liang has indeed been silenced! The level of danger we have to face has increased and all the more reason we can’t let our guard down! As for Xuanlong..." he glanced at Tak Jung-hwa.
"Don’t worry," Tak Jung-hwa cooperated seamlessly. "Leave Xuanlong to me."
Li Zhi nodded, reassured. He discussed their future course of action with Captain Rong for a while before deciding to have Wu Yuan do a blood and urine drug test as they were unwilling to let go of even the smallest possibility. Then he told the technician, "For now, let’s say that we are willing to believe him. Don’t waste anymore time and find out whether Wu Yuan knows something about AX–03 and... other drugs too."
The technician nodded and relayed the order to Mu Yuze’s earpiece.

Inside the interrogation room.
After receiving the green signal, Mu Yuze breathed a little sigh of relief. Of course he was willing to bet on Wu Yuan’s innocence, but the peculiarity of the case made him unsure whether the others would too.
Going by the usual practice, it would be more efficient to deny Wu Yuan’s claim and in exchange, make the little guy more flustered until he finally broke down and spilled out the truth. But Mu Yuze really did not want to go down this cruel path.
Wu Yuan was an innocent party who just got tangled with this messy case. There was no need for the police to burden him with more pointless suffering. They were supposed to protect him, not to ruin him.
Facing Wu Yuan who was only a hair’s breadth away from breaking down, Mu Yuze grasped his icy cold hand in a secure grip. His calm yet powerful voice reverberated in Wu Yuan’s ears, "Don’t worry, I believe you, Wu Yuan."
"You..." Wu Yuan froze in disbelief, his voice barely a squeak. "You really... believe me?"
Mu Yuze nodded. He grabbed the cup of water and handed it over to Wu Yuan, gesturing for him to drink and calm down first. Perhaps the aura Mu Yuze exuded was really reliable and comforting, Wu Yuan’s tense shoulders suddenly sagged as if a huge burden had been lifted off him. He was so relieved that he could not stop sobbing. "Thank you... Thank you so much, mister..."
Trembling, he reached out for the cup and drank it sip by sip. He felt as if it was not water that slid down his throat but a magic potion that could wash all of his grievance and despair away. He did not need much. Only one person... if he could have one person who was willing to trust him, then it was already more than enough.
When all was said and done, Wu Yuan was a teenager who had been enduring his father’s abusive nature for years and could still achieve exemplary results in school. It was apparent that the little guy’s psychology barrier was tougher than others. After receiving this reassurance, he managed to calm down a lot and then, his sluggish brain started to work. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
If it was not him, then who killed his father...?
Whoever it was, the only possible timeframe they could commit the crime was during those ten minutes when he passed out! Shock weaved through Wu Yuan’s heart. Exactly who was bearing such a huge grudge enough to kill his father and plant the blame on him?
Mu Yuze had been closely keeping tabs on the little guy’s micro expression. Noticing that he had regained his composure, Mu Yuze returned to his seat and assumed the professional air of a police officer. "Wu Yuan, I am sure you realize the gravity of this matter, right? Someone has killed your father and they are still out there as we speak. Moreover, they push you out as a scapegoat. They’re extremely cunning and vicious."
Wu Yuan sucked in a breath and nodded. "But why..." Confusion was reflected in his eyes. He really could not figure out why someone would want to kill his father. Was it the debt collector? No, that’s not right. If it was debt collectors, they should have taken his father’s organs instead of killing him in such a simple and brutal way...
Mu Yuze let out a faint sigh and decided not to beat around the bush. "Wu Yuan, do you know that... your father is a drug dealer?"
Wu Yuan’s eyes snapped to him blankly and Mu Yuze instantly knew that the answer was no.
"W–What...?!" He was so shocked that he shot up standing only for his knees to collide with the table. However, he could not even afford to care about the pain as he fixed his disbelieving stare at the man in front of him. "My father is a... what?! Mister, you... you’re joking, aren’t you...?"
Wu Yuan’s complexion, which barely improved due to Mu Yuze’s words of reassurance, became ghastly once again. His breathing grew ragged, and he stared at Mu Yuze in such a heartbreaking way as if hoping that everything he heard was only a lie. However, Mu Yuze’s eyes were deep and serious, and he did not look like he was joking at all.
Wu Yuan went through a rollercoaster of emotions in the span of seconds – shock, disbelief, utter denial before helpless acceptance. In the end, he slumped down onto the chair again. His entire being deflated like a balloon.
"I assume you know nothing about this," Mu Yuze concluded.
"No, I..." he looked like he had lost his soul. "H–How could it be...?"
Subsequently, Mu Yuze asked him whether he had noticed any suspicious activity from his father and whether he had seen the drug AX–03 somewhere, but all Wu Yuan could do was shake his head blankly. The poor little guy did not even know that his father was an addict for years.
Mu Yuze heaved out another sigh. He had no idea whether to be grateful to Wu Liang for having the most basic conscience not to pull his son into the mire.
There was nothing more he could ask. He had already more or less confirmed that Wu Yuan was only a spawn used by the real culprit.
Mu Yuze spoke a few words of comfort and let the officer outside take Wu Yuan to do a drug test, reassuring him again and again that it was only a procedure. After this interrogation session was finished, Mu Yuze’s mouth became so dry as if his throat had caught on fire. He felt like he had used up his words capacity for the next few weeks.
Alas, instead of fetching water to drink, the first thing he did was to pull out his phone and send a voice note to He Juan, telling how Wu Yuan was going to be alright and his status as the main culprit should be revoked soon. He Juan almost lost his head out of worry and the least Mu Yuze could do right now was to give him a peace of mind.
He watched the voice note pop up in the chat interface but... the status showed that it was not received by the other party’s phone. Mu Yuze’s brows creased. Had Juan-gege turned off his phone?
Wait... it had been more than an hour but Juan-gege had not messaged him yet. Had he not arrived home or had he simply forgotten to inform Mu Muze or... had something happened?
Mu Yuze did not know why, but his heart suddenly gave a loud thump. Uneasiness spread from the depth of his heart to his limbs. An urge to see He Juan abruptly surged out of nowhere, so strong and desperate that Mu Yuze could no longer think of anything else.
Swallowing dryly, he made a split second decision and sped walk toward the control room, intending to report to Captain Li and asked for a few hours leave. This was the first time Mu Yuze would leave work in the middle of an important case, but... he really could not wait for even one more second. He wanted – no, he had to see Juan-gege as soon as possible!
This restlessness had come so sudden that it caught him utterly off guard, but Mu Yuze had no way to ignore it. He wanted to make sure that He Juan was okay. That’s right... he only needed to make a trip home and confirm that He Juan was safe and sound before returning to the police station again...
As he passed through the lobby, a piece of headline news from the portable TV on the wall suddenly drifted to his ears. "...the heavy rain has caused two cars to slip on the mountainous range near Yuyang City. As of now, the victims have been brought into Yuyang Hospital Center for further observation..."
Mu Yuze abruptly froze on his tracks. His head, as though it had grown a will on its own, turned toward the TV. There, he saw a solemn looking reporter wearing a raincoat as she reported the accident live. Behind her was the dark mountain road, the collapsed hill and a section of broken guardrail. And even though the nameplate on the car had been blurred, Mu Yuze could still tell that... the car whose front hood had been smashed beyond repair and half buried under the collapsing soil was the same one which had come out of the police station earlier.
—It was the same car that Juan-gege was in.
Mu Yuze could no longer hear what the female reporter was talking about. His gaze was still fixed on the screen and his figure remained in a wooden state. Yet inwardly, he felt as if the entire sky had caved in on him, crushing him until whatever remained was cold, dreading terror that turned his whole body numb.
