Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 146: Don’t Move
Nice to meet you again...
No matter from which angle one dissected that sentence, it could only mean that they had met before and there might even be a story behind it – a story He Juan had forgotten due to his accident.
Actually, just looking at this face, He Juan could more or less guess that the two of them must have known each other before. However, knowing and listening as the other party admitted out loud was two different things altogether. The shock sent a powerful lurch straight to He Juan’s heart to the point where he did not even register what the blue-eyed man was addressing him as.
"You..." He Juan gripped onto the broken guardrail, his face drained of all colors. He did not even blink as water clung on his lashes and blurred his gaze. "Who... are you?"
Above them, flashes of lightning swam ceaselessly amidst the rolling thick clouds, accompanied by the ear-deafening claps of thunder. Large raindrops hammered down in loud pitter patter as the two men’s gazes met in midair. It was as if the sky was also mourning for the reunion that was delayed by seven long years.
He Juan’s voice was faint, so faint that it might as well be drowned by the torrential downpour before it could travel long. Yet the blue-eyed man heard it nonetheless. His jaws tensed and his eyes darkened as if a violent storm was brewing within. The hand holding the gun trembled from how hard he was gripping onto it.
Jia Molei had been paying close attention to the attacker and when he saw this momentary lapse of attention, his pupils shrank and he instantly took action!
He bent his elbow and the line of his body exploded in power as he propelled himself up, his hand shot out toward the attacker’s wrist intending to grab the gun. However, it was apparent that the blue-eyed man had gone through some training before because his reflexes were as quick as lightning. As soon as he sensed Jia Molei’s resistance, his finger pressed on the trigger—
Bang!
The harsh gunshot sounded at the same time with the thunder striking above, sending a vicious jolt through He Juan’s body.
"Molei—!!" He Juan’s voice cracked and he felt his vision darken for a split second. Chills rose from the bottom of his feet to his whole body and turned his scalp numb. In that moment, his head went utterly blank and the only thought that remained was: no... nononono, Molei can’t possibly die. He can’t!
But then, a shocking scene that totally overturned He Juan’s impression of his best friend happened.
In that decisive moment, Jia Molei struck out his palm against the attacker’s hand and led the trajectory of the bullet astray, proving his extraordinary condition reflex. It ended up landing right on the thick tree trunk behind him. After that, with a powerful sweep of his leg, he kicked the scrap door toward the attacker and forced him a few steps backward.
Even in this kind of slippery terrain, he managed to plant his feet firmly on the ground and his upper body rose along with unstoppable momentum. Jia Molei grabbed the attacker’s arm and with a sharp crack, dislocated his right elbow, causing the gun to fall somewhere on the ground. Then in one smooth movement, he slammed the attacker’s spine on the overturned car and punched him right on the cheek!
Halfway down the slope, He Juan sucked in a surprised air.
In his eyes, Jia Molei had always been someone whose mouth was way bigger than fists. He might be harsh, rude and plainly annoying but he very seldom used violence. He was a man who had an unbearably soft heart. Or so He Juan had always thought.
Yet at this moment, there was ruthlessness and cold murderous intent in Jia Molei’s eyes which He Juan had never seen before. Every attack was executed in sharp and ferocious momentum, devoid of any trace of hesitation. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
It was as if... he was ready to kill this man without even batting an eyelid.
"You... fucker!" Jia Molei gritted out, almost in a growl. "One by one... all of you keep popping up like an eyesore! What are you coming back for?! It’s that bastard Ku Jin’s order, isn’t it?!"
"Ha..." The man sneered with blood flowing down his lips. Even though he was in a disadvantageous position, his eyes remained dauntless and resolute. It was just like the time when the Land Rover almost slipped on the road a few times before during the chase, only to regain momentum again and again and stuck to their Jeep closely. It was the resolution of someone who looked at death straight in the eye. "Ku Jin?" He said with a voice full of mockery. "What right does he have to order me around? I hadn’t believed it when he said that XIU has already become a dull and broken sword, so I decided to come and take a look. As it turns out..."
There was a slight rustle behind him and Jia Molei did not even have to look to know that He Juan had made his way here. Without taking his gaze off the attacker, he demanded, "Stay put, don’t come closer!"
He Juan froze amidst his act of picking up the gun which had been kicked away during the tussle. But in the end, he still grabbed onto the weapon and held it tightly in his trembling hands.
His fingers curled naturally around the handle as though his body was slowly awakening the dormant muscle memory. He was already too numb to be surprised by how fluid his movement was even though this was clearly his first time holding one. The only sensation transmitted to his brain was the coldness of the weapon in his hand, so cold it was as if he was holding onto a block of ice.
Everything had happened so suddenly that he was not even given the time to digest it. He had no idea who this man was, what kind of thing had happened in the past, or even what he and Jia Molei were talking about. He was clearly the center of discussion, yet he felt like a total outsider as he watched everything unfolding in front of him. The rain chilled him down to the bones and the pain on his skull was getting more and more unbearable.
Amidst the noisy ringing in his ears, he raised the gun and pointed it at the attacker.
"Don’t..." his voice was hoarse like sand grinding against paper, his fingertip shaking lightly against the trigger. "Don’t move."
