Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 134: Worst Case Scenario
When He Juan and Mu Yuze arrived at Wu Yuan’s neighborhood, they saw a few police cars parked from afar, their blue and red sirens were especially eye-catching under the gloomy nightscape. Not only that, there were also a lot of people crowding around a house which He Juan suspected was Wu Yuan’s.
He Juan clenched his fists and tried to keep his anxiety at bay. After that desperate plea for help, the call had instantly been disconnected and no matter how many times He Juan tried to call back, Wu Yuan did not pick up anymore.
He Juan was so anxious that he almost lost his cool a few times along the journey. If not for Mu Yuze who constantly releasing soothing pheromones to calm him down, He Juan did not dare to imagine what he would have done.
Oh God... this was all his fault! Since the day of the provincial competition, he and Wu Yuan had been communicating on and off through the messaging app. Once every few days, He Juan would send pocket money for the little guy to spend. He had also repeatedly told Wu Yuan to inform him if he needed more help. But because he had never heard anything whatsoever, he thought that everything was fine and accidentally let down his guard.
Who knew that something like this would happen?!
He Juan followed Mu Yuze down the car and approached the crowd. Perhaps seeing how frosty Mu Yuze looked – and there was also the anxious He Juan who was unable to keep a smile on his face – the crowd automatically parted ways for them. Some faint conversation drifted to He Juan’s ears,
"...I knew something like this would happen sooner or later."
"Karma! This is all karma! Old Wu has always been gambling all day and hung out with the wrong people, even neglecting his son day and night. Now see what has happened to him?!"
"Hush, the man is already dead. Why are you still talking bad about him?"
"Goodness, Little Wu is so pitiful!"
Wu Yuan’s house was a very old and ordinary single-story building surrounded by mottled brick walls that were only up to He Juan’s chest. From his position, he could easily peer into the house. The sundries and furniture were overturned and there were even lots of glass fragments on the floor. It was apparent that a brawl had taken place here.
Officers in uniform were walking back and forth as they collected evidence and some were shouting to disperse the crowd. It was extremely noisy and chaotic. He Juan wordlessly withdrew his gaze and his attention was soon fixed on the familiar silhouette that was sitting inside the police car.
It was none other than Wu Yuan.
Just as He Juan was taking a step in that direction, he was held back by an officer who was guarding the police line. His eyes were wary as he measured He Juan from head to toe, "Who are you? What kind of relationship do you have with this family?"
He Juan’s entire body was cold, so cold to the point where his fingertips were freezing. Even then, he could not stop sweating. It was like he was sucked into a violent whirlpool and desperately struggled to keep his head above the surface. His heartbeat was so loud that his head was drumming along with it. Due to the blood rushing in his ears, he did not even hear the police officer’s question.
It was Mu Yuze who stepped up and covered for him. The omega flashed his official badge. "Mu Yuze, Violent Crime Unit from Yuyang City Bureau. What is the situation here?"
The officer’s wary expression changed in an instant. He straightened up to give Mu Yuze a salute and lifted the police line to grant them access. Despite his confusion as to why the news could travel so fast to the point where the bigshots from City Bureau were attracted here, he still obediently filled Mu Yuze in. "It’s a murder. A man in his forties was stabbed on his stomach with a kitchen knife. When we arrived, it was already too late."
Mu Yuze’s voice was a bit hoarse when he asked, "...The perpetrator?"
"For now, his son is the biggest murder suspect. Actually, it has almost been confirmed now."
He Juan and Mu Yuze’s face paled simultaneously – albeit for a totally different reason altogether.
Along the way here, He Juan had tried to convince himself that maybe the situation was not as terrible as he’d imagined it to be. Maybe Wu Yuan fought someone, injured them quite fatally and panicked – thus the phone call. Maybe He Juan could still salvage the situation if he were to hurry. Even when he overheard the neighbors’ conversation, he still repeatedly told himself that he might be wrong. But now... with this officer’s clarification, everything was crystal clear.
In the end, the worst case scenario had come true. Wu Yuan had, accidentally or not, killed his own father...
The sharp pain from his nails sinking into flesh jolted He Juan out of his trance. No... something must be wrong here! He trusted Wu Yuan’s character. That earnest, good and slightly timid child could not be a murderer. He did not believe it! He finally tore his gaze from the police car and wanted to ask for more clarification when Mu Yuze beat him to it.
"Have you searched the perimeter? What is the situation like when you arrived? Are there any eyewitnesses? What about the state of the suspect?" One after another, a series of questions flowed out smoothly of Mu Yuze’s lips and in the end, his tone sounded a little agitated.
He Juan was startled. Mu Yuze was not the kind of officer who would let emotions get in the way of his job. Moreover, he had never met Wu Yuan before so logically speaking, there was no reason for him to defend the little guy so hard. Even the police officer was caught off guard by Mu Yuze’s harsh bombardment.
"Officer Mu...?" He Juan turned to face Mu Yuze, bewildered. Perhaps it was the effect of the glaring light bar, He Juan felt that Mu Yuze’s complexion was a bit ghastly. There were myriads of emotions in his dark eyes which He Juan had never seen before and for some inexplicable reason, they caused He Juan’s heart to flip uneasily. He wanted to hold Mu Yuze’s hand, but there were so many people around and it was too inappropriate. In the end, he could only touch Mu Yuze’s shoulder and asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"
Mu Yuze stared at him blankly and blinked. He Juan could see that he was slowly coming back to his senses. He pinched his brows and let out a sigh. "Apologies, I was getting carried away."
He Juan could tell that something was off with Mu Yuze’s state right now. Unable to leave it alone, he leaned closer and asked in a voice only both of them could hear. "Are you feeling unwell? Do you want to return to the car? It’s okay, you don’t need to force yourself to accompany me here."
Mu Yuze shook his head and insisted on staying. The stubbornness in his eyes told He Juan that he would not be able to persuade the omega otherwise.
He Juan lowered his lashes, his jaws tense. On one side, he was concerned about Mu Yuze, but on the other side, he was anxious about Wu Yuan’s condition. His emotions were all jumbled up and dull pain throbbed on the back of his skull. Everything had happened so suddenly that he could not even catch his breath. For a moment, he was at an utter loss on how to proceed.
The officer in front of them did not realize the subtle atmosphere in the air. He thought that Mu Yuze was questioning their work ethics and did not dare to mess around. After all, it was not everyday that their local station received such a big case that even the officers in the City Bureau were notified!
He gave Mu Yuze a very comprehensive answer, "Half an hour ago, we received an urgent report that people were fighting and it sounded quite severe. We didn’t think much of it because we have received similar cases like this before. From the time we received the call to when we arrived here, only ten or so minutes had passed.
"There are a lot of eyewitnesses stating that this father and son pair have never gotten along with each other. According to their statement, tonight they have been quarreling so hard that their next door neighbors could hear the sound of glass breaking, shouting and in the end, it escalated to a physical fight. There was only the son at the crime scene and he was holding the murder weapon as well. Not only that..." the officer glanced at the rowdy surroundings and lowered his voice to say,
"The son has admitted to the crime. He confessed that he is the one who stabbed his father to death."
