Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 103: Do You Trust Him?
Thick silence encased the interrogation room.
That’s right. From the start to the end, Zhao Xinya’s incident had been kept under a tight lid that not even the officers next door knew about the identity of the victim. Li Zhi also had not said anything regarding Zhao Xinya’s death to the man in front of him. He merely asked whether he knew her or not. So... how did Qin Zhen find out about it?
Behind the one-way mirror, the members of the Violent Crime Unit burst out into curses one after another.
"Fuck, don’t tell me... is he actually another accomplice in the murder case?!"
"Not necessarily," another person interjected. "Remember, Long Guozhi has already stayed in Phoenix Ablaze for three days before we came to get him. It’s not entirely impossible that he wasted himself and started to babble."
The officer’s conjecture was soon proven right.
Inside the brightly lit room, Qin Zhen gave a nervous laugh. "Actually... almost every staff member in the VIP lounge knows this matter. Li Mingzhao’s lackey – what is his surname again? Long? – he accidentally told the bartender when he was drunk one day. And then..." he shrugged. "Rumors spread fast. I immediately knew that this should be Li Mingzhao’s order. More importantly, the evidence she was talking about... has the police received them?"
Li Zhi stared at the Beta’s worried and nervous look, and did not answer.
A few minutes later, his earpiece gave a crackle and reports came in. "Capt, he is telling the truth. The bartender indeed heard Long Guozhi talk about it in a drunken slur. Then he secretly discussed it with the other staff members."
"That’s right, 7 out of 10 people know it."
Only then did Li Zhi hum and restrain the pressure on his gaze. "Don’t worry. Miss Zhao’s evidence has successfully gotten into our hands. Li Mingzhao will not be able to escape anymore."
"Good... that’s good..." Qin Zhen visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
"After this incident, have you had any other contact with Miss Zhao Xinya?"
"No," Qin Zhen answered in a heartbeat. "There is only that one encounter. That’s why I was so shocked when I heard the news of her sudden passing..." he showed a bitter and regretful smile.
Li Zhi leaned forward, opened his notebook and clicked on the tip of his ballpoint. In his mind, Qin Zhen had been ruled out of the list of accomplices and became an important witness. "Now you’re going to tell me the identity and characteristics of the minors Li Mingzhao brought into the bar, as well as everything you know about them."

"What are you looking at?" Kang Guanyu asked curiously when he discovered that Chen Lian had been fixing her razor-sharp gaze on Qin Zhen.
"Do you trust him?"
"Huh?"
Chen Lian turned to him and repeated her question, "Qin Zhen. Do you trust what he said?"
Kang Guanyu tilted his head in confusion. He had also been listening to the interrogation together with Chen Lian, yet he did not spot anything amiss. "Is there something wrong with him?" He scrutinized Qin Zhen closer, trying to see if he could discover anything. But then, his mind started to wander instead. "You know, he is actually quite good-looking now that I am taking a closer look at him."
Chen Lian gave him a deadpan look. "He’s wearing make-up."
Once again, Kang Guanyu only blinked in confusion.
However, Chen Lian was no longer interested in conversing with him. She returned her gaze to Qin Zhen and murmured under her breath. "It’s so early in the morning. The bar has not opened yet. And he has already put on make-up?"
Kang Guanyu’s eyes widened in surprise when he found out what Chen Lian was talking about. Then he clutched his chest with one hand and put on an exaggeratedly disbelieving look. "What do you mean by that, A–Chen? Are you saying that... Betas are not allowed to wear make-up nowadays?! I support freedom in how we express ourselves. I never knew that you were so narrow-minded!"
Chen Lian rolled her eyes. However, hearing Kang Guanyu’s words, she actually felt like... she had been a tad too suspicious of everything, almost to the point of paranoia. Sighing, Chen Lian finally averted her gaze and lay her doubt to rest.

In another interrogation room.
Mu Yuze was sitting properly on his chair, his posture perfectly casual. Yet the man in front of him was close to pissing his pants off. They had been like this for half an hour. Mu Yuze, staring at him without moving whereas Han Shan’s gaze was darting everywhere but him.
In the end, Han Shan could not endure the psychological pressure anymore and admitted defeat. He squeezed out an ugly smile on his face and tried hard to keep his voice steady, albeit he had no idea how well it was working. "O–Officer Mu... do you have something to ask me?"
"Yes."
Han Shan heaved a sigh of relief and dabbed his sweat with his handkerchief. "Then, go ahead..."
"Your hands, what happened to them?"
Han Shan visibly froze. Even his smile turned stiff for a split second. His mind was turning in full gear. What did this man want? Should he be honest and said that it was the devil’s work— ah, no, that’s not right, he had been warned to keep Mr. Xiu’s existence a secret! That’s right, Mu Yuze must have wanted to test his loyalty!
In less than three seconds, Han Shan adjusted his mindset and showed an appropriate courteous smile. "Ah, this? Just a little accident when I was young." He subconsciously gripped his right wrist and caressed the solid metal beneath. "I was afraid that it would scare people because it is a bit scary. But if Officer Mu wants to see, I can take off my gloves for you...?"
Mu Yuze stared at him for one long moment before shaking his head. "No need." He swiftly continued with another question. "Have you always known about Li Mingzhao’s special preference?"
This was actually a very tricky question. If he said yes, then his entire business would definitely be implicated. If he said no, then would the police believe him as the deed had happened right in his bar? It would just make it look like he had something to hide. Usually, if such an occasion showed up, Han Shan would keep mum and insisted not to say anything until his lawyers arrived.
Yet right now, he was akin to someone who had been fed a truth serum. He did not even dare to tell a single lie. He admitted everything he had seen and done with an ashamed look. "Officer Mu is right. This is really a mistake on my part. I am willing to take any punishment the police are going to give me..."
Compared to the devil, the police’s charges were nothing at all! He’d prefer to squat behind the bars than to have the devil knock on his door for the second time!
Because the boss of Phoenix Ablaze himself was very cooperative in offering the surveillance footage in his bar, the progress of the investigation charged forward without a hitch.
The crime on Li Mingzhao’s head gradually increased. Even if his ancestors were to climb out from their graves right now, they still would not be able to wash him clean. The evidence against him was solid and irrefutable, and it was expected that he would spend the rest of his life behind the prison bars.
He had been escaping the clutches of law for far too many years, only to be tripped this time – by an ordinary woman whom he initially wanted to screw over.
There could be no justice without truth, and there could be no truth without someone rising to speak of it.
Zhao Xinya might only be an ordinary Beta. She was not too beautiful, nor was she very brilliant. Instead, she had a gloomy disposition that caused people to be uncomfortable with her. Yet with her life, she had managed to dig out this inconceivable truth and brought light to its foulness, preventing many others from enduring the same fate as her in the future.
This time, she was finally set free...
