Captain of the Pirates: My Fleet's Limitless Upgrading-Chapter 40: Dragon Egg Hatches, Return to Giant Whale Island
"Wind-powered flight?" Anna was confused and didn’t understand what that meant. She continued, "If it can’t fly on its own, then just let the big ship pull it."
It was a pretty good idea to let the big ship pull it.
But Leo didn’t think the hot air balloon was that useful, and he didn’t want to waste materials. But Anna kept bugging him, and he had no way to get away.
He noticed Lilia nearby and said, "Lilia, can you stop this girl?"
"Uh?"
Lilia was distracted and, after hearing Leo’s words, sighed helplessly. She had no idea what to do.
"Lilia, why have you been so troubled lately? Are you sick?" Anna noticed something was wrong and asked with concern.
"Did I... look like that?" Lilia’s face turned red. She couldn’t help but think about the time she fell into the sea and felt her face getting hot.
"Your face is so hot. Are you really sick?" Anna lifted her foot and touched Lilia’s face.
Lilia quickly said, "No. I’m an elf warrior. I can’t get sick."
"True." Anna nodded.
Leo felt a little guilty. When he met Lilia’s eyes, she quickly looked away.
He was about to sneak away when Anna caught him again.
"Leo, help me make a hot air balloon, and I’ll tell you how to train a dragon."
"Train a dragon?" Leo was surprised and looked at her curiously.
Anna continued, "It means to sign a Soul Contract with a baby dragon."
Leo then remembered the dragon egg. It had only three days left before it hatched.
He quickly asked, "How do I do it?"
"It’s a special Master-Servant Contract. If the dragon is strong, I can’t help you sign it. But a baby dragon that hasn’t been born yet should be fine," Anna explained simply.
A Soul Contract was a more advanced type of contract than a Master-Servant Contract. Just like psychics could block the contract power, strong dragons could also block the soul connection - even cause it to backfire on the master.
Only a real strong person could control a dragon.
"Okay, you train the dragon, and I’ll build you another hot air balloon," Leo was excited and agreed to Anna’s deal without hesitation.
He was just an ordinary person. On this ship, he was the weakest in terms of fighting power. Even old Barnett could easily beat him.
If he could control a dragon, he would be much safer.
"Come on, let’s go before the dragon hatches and we can start the connection early," Anna pulled him toward the cabin.
Lilia also followed out of curiosity.
At that moment, the big dragon egg was already glowing red. When they got close, a wave of heat hit them.
"I’ve never used this old spell before. I don’t know if it will work," Anna was no longer playful. She held her wand and looked serious.
"I believe in you," Leo encouraged her.
"Me too," Anna smiled slightly, then started to recite a complicated spell. A strong magical power filled the air around her.
Leo and Lilia stood quietly by.
Soon, Anna began to sweat. The old magic was clearly hard for her to use.
But in the end, she managed to finish it.
Light flashed, and a huge magical pattern covered the dragon egg and Leo.
"Leo, cut your finger and let some blood fall on the egg. It might hurt a little. You have to hold on," Anna quickly warned.
Leo nodded. He took the short knife from Lilia and cut his palm. His blood fell onto the egg.
Hiss...
The blood seemed to boil. It weirdly merged into the egg.
Ugh!
Leo frowned, his face full of pain. He felt a sharp pain in his head, like someone was tearing him apart.
He was building a strange connection with the life inside the egg.
Anna wasn’t idle either. She kept chanting the spell, speaking ancient and complicated sounds.
Leo clearly felt a strong force attacking his soul.
It was similar to when Elyse had blocked his soul connection, but this time it was even more dangerous.
"Leo, I’ll protect your soul. Try to communicate with the force in your mind," Anna said, struggling.
Leo nodded slightly. He closed his eyes, and with great effort, he endured the painful tearing in his soul, trying to communicate with the force in his mind.
He clearly sensed the strength of that power - wild, destructive, and full of rage. But it was also confused, trying to reach out.
"Hey, don’t be afraid. We’ll be partners from now on," Leo whispered in his mind.
The angry energy seemed to calm down a bit.
The light around them grew brighter. The magical energy became even stronger. A small soul force reached out and connected with him.
The painful feeling slowly disappeared. Leo clearly felt a strong, playful life inside the egg, eager to break free.
"Uh, the egg is hatching early," Anna noticed the strong life energy inside the egg.
Obviously, the Soul Contract had made the baby dragon come out early.
Leo was also full of excitement. He watched the egg closely.
Crack!
A soft sound. The hard shell cracked open. The red light quickly faded, but the life energy inside grew even stronger.
Crack!
Another loud sound. The egg broke open. A small black head popped out, blinking its big, shiny eyes, looking around curiously.
"Aww, so cute," Anna and Lilia came closer, watching the baby dragon.
The little creature struggled to break free. It was about the size of two hands, with wings that were almost half a meter wide. It stretched its body.
Anna was amazed. She reached out to touch it, but the little thing dodged quickly, then jumped onto Leo’s shoulder and rubbed his face affectionately.
Leo clearly felt the dragon’s dependence on him. He was thrilled.
"Haha, from now on, you’ll be called Pyrothar!" He thought of a fierce dragon from his old world’s stories and gave the little one a name.
"That name sounds terrible," Anna protested unhappily.
The little creature, however, was very happy. It kept rubbing against Leo’s face.
"Okay, let me introduce you."
Leo picked it off his shoulder and pointed at Anna, saying, "This is Anna. She’s a princess of the elves, but she’s a little devil. Stay away from her, or you’ll learn bad habits from her."
"What?" Anna was angry. She showed her teeth and tried to jump at him.
Leo moved to the side and avoided her. Then he went to Lilia and introduced, "This is Lilia. She’s cold, but she’s a good person."
Lilia gave him a cold look. Then she was drawn to the baby dragon.
The little creature nodded like a human, as if it really understood what Leo said.
"Okay, let me introduce the others on the ship to you."
Leo was happy. He held the baby dragon and left the cabin.
"Hey, Leo, don’t forget my hot air balloon," Anna ran after him, reminding him.
The baby dragon’s birth immediately attracted everyone.
The girls gathered around Pyrothar, all of them loved it. They reached out to play with it, showing no sign that this little thing would grow into a powerful, evil dragon.
"This dragon looks really ugly when it’s young," old Barnett said, looking at the little one.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, Pyrothar opened its mouth and shot a small flame toward Barnett.
"Oh no, my beard!" he shouted. His thick, messy beard was actually set on fire, causing the girls to laugh loudly.
Pyrothar puffed its chest and looked very proud.
"This little one can already shoot fire?" Biggy was surprised. He was curious, but kept his distance.
He could tell that Pyrothar liked being touched by the girls, but it looked at the men with hostility - except for Leo.
"It wouldn’t be normal if it couldn’t shoot fire. This little one ate hundreds of Flamestones before it was born," Anna said, thinking about the Flamestones. She felt a little sad.
How many fireworks could that many Flamestones make?
Lilia looked at Pyrothar and said, "I can feel this little one is very strong. It should be at level 3."
"Level 3? That’s so strong," Anna was surprised. She pouted and said, "I kind of regret letting this little one choose Leo as its master."
She was only a high-level second-rank mage, barely reaching the peak of level 2.
She had asked Elyse for a thousand Water Element Stones to train, but that woman never gave them to her. Instead, she trapped them.
Thinking about Elyse made Anna angry.
Pyrothar’s birth brought a lot of joy to the crew.
The little dragon grew very fast. In just a few days, it could fly normally and improved a lot in fighting skills.
That was all thanks to Lilia. The two of them often practiced together.
Leo finally realized how strong dragons were in this world.
Pyrothar was only just born, but it was already at level 3 - strong enough to fight Lilia.
If it kept growing, Lilia would definitely not be a match for it.
...
The big ship continued its journey toward Giant Whale Island.
Before leaving, Leo had already set things up on the island. He had the Minotaur priest forge Iron Ore and look for Sulfur Stone and other materials.
He wanted to station a few people on the island to rebuild some Smoothbore cannons and make gunpowder.
If possible, he also wanted to build a ship made of iron.
Wooden ships were too weak to handle the recoil of the Smoothbore cannons.
But Leo was a little worried. Elyse would probably guess where he was going, and she might send soldiers to stop him.
Luckily, they didn’t run into any trouble on the way.
After more than half a month of sailing, the big ship broke through the fog, and Giant Whale Island appeared in front of them.
The island was quiet and nothing seemed wrong. Everyone let out a sigh of relief.
The Minotaur saw the ship and got nervous. But when he recognized the Biggy and Secondy on the front, he relaxed.
The old priest got the news and rushed to the shore to greet them.
When Leo arrived on Giant Whale Island, he finally felt at ease.
Giant Whale Island had rich resources and also had the ingredients for making gunpowder. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
From now on, he wouldn’t be afraid of the Kano Kingdom anymore.
